Y'all got your remake.
Square Enix and Sony announced today at the Playstation Experience that they will be bringing the PC version of Final Fantasy VII to the PS4 next year in the Spring. The game saw a release on Steam recently and with this direction may see more of the PC Final Fantasy releases ported over to the PS4 as well.

...it's not already on the PSN? Am I missing something? (Don't have a PS4.)
It is on the PSN, but I believe that all PSone and PS2 classics are not compatible with the PS4. So it is not available for play on the PS4. The Playstation Now service I think was their intent to make PSone and PS2 games available on the PS4. But this is also the PC version, which means that it slightly different from the PSone release, visually anyway.

Epic troll.
Slightly is the key word there. Slightly. I mean, it was a significant difference in its time, but other than maybe smoothing the edges out again and blending the textures so the character models don't look like they're floating on the backgrounds, it's still going to look like the same game.
Epic troll indeed.
I've seen some theories that they did that just to gauge live crowd response to see if it would be worth a real HD release. They already have the character models from Advent Children.

In addition to that, square does have modern models of FF7 locations in Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus they can use - Gongaga, Midgar, Shinra Manor, Nibelheim, Mt. Nibel, Kalm, Costa Del Sol, and Junon. They can easily use those, upscale them, base the modern textures of other locations using the techniques they used to update the already existing locations.

I'll still buy it. I replay Final Fantasy VII at least once a year (or try to), so I'll wait for this edition before I go ahead this year.
Also, trophies. Right? <3
I commend Square for at least getting Final Fantasy games on as many systems as possible. They've even stated in taking in interest in including PC releases on new games if the demand is enough.
But this was a joke, they made such a huge deal about it announcing it on stage among oodles of viewers. It seems they really did just want to troll us.
The fact that this is being billed as an official release of some sort is an insult to everyone's intelligence. Even stupid people.
