Not a massive fan to be honest, I did however beat it three times so far (GBA, NDS and PsP version) so it's not without its merit, there's enjoyment to be found in it most certainly. It's a simple game to play with some great characters, most noticeably Tellah. My biggest issue though are all those fake deaths, it really dampers the story. PsP version is the way to go, you get two games for the price of one.

The After Years is surprisingly enjoyable up to the last few chapters when they clearly ran out of ideas and threw every boss they could think of at you. I also like how every character, from original to new ones got their due.

I agree that's why I got so used to it. it made me feel like it was easy that smoothed me in. and yes the after years seemed to look nice I just never got around to playing it and I seriously regretted it because I got past the little prologue that came with the game then never played the after years.

It's enjoyable, sure, but you're not missing out on anything special. What made The After Years on PsP better, aside from gorgeous sprites compared to god awful 3D graphics of NDS, is that very prologue you mentioned, it adds a lot of intrigue in all the right ways.

It really was great. That little prologue was the connection to it all.

As much as I liked the snes version, I favor the DS remake because it breathed life into the story with voice acting and it added backstory to explain Cecil's and Golbez's past. Not only that but it had a sweet augment system which is basically like FFV's ability system but you have to equip it on certain characters in order to be able to receive new ones to equip.

Otherwise, it was a great story, a story of Cecil's redemption and his determination to stop the evil baron is doing and then he comes to discover that there is more to what's going on besides baron's corruption. On top of that, it has a great soundtrack which still holds well today.
