When you have to protect Banon, and you switch into 3 parties, what Characters do you team up?
Mine Are:
Edgar, Terra
Sabin, Locke, Celes
Gau, Cyan (rarely have to use these guys)
What combination's do you guys use?

I separate Gau, Edgar, and Sabin. Gau has his Pteradon Rage, which lets him use Fireball on all enemies; Sabin has Fire Dance; and Edgar has the Bio Blaster. All of these attacks are better suited for multiple enemies, so it'd be silly to have them in the same party.
Then I split up Terra and Celes, so both of them can use magic with their respective parties. And I put Locke with the party that will be battling Kefka, so he can steal from him. Often, I'll have Gau and Celes face Kefka as well, so they can use Stray Cat's Catscratch attack and Runic, respectively.
So it'll look something like this:
Gau, Locke, Celes
Sabin, Terra
Edgar, Cyan

My main group at that time was Edgar, Sabin, Celes/Terra (one of them), and Locke. I sticked to that, putting the other characters in 2 groups randomly. Simply used my main group to intercept anything coming in, and when the road was clear, went straight down for Kefka.
I usually have Terra, Locke, Sabin, and Edgar as the main force and then having Cyan and Celes back to protect Banon if anything were to get through. then Gau as a very last resort. Never comes to that though.
This is my signature. It's not good now, but later on it might be. Who can say...
...can you?
Well I do it different everytime, but I always make sure that sabin and cyan are on different teams, terra and celes are on different teams and that gau is in my 'attack' party.
Good question. Normally I would have: Terra and Sabin in one group. Followed by Edgar and Cyan. And then Gau, Locke, and Celes.
I was about Level 15 and higher by that point in the game, so Sabin had his Phoenix Blast-thing.
I split Terra, Celes, and Locke into one group, Sabin and Edgar in another, and Cyan and Gau in the last. Team 2 did the majority of the fighting. Sabin using the aformentioned Blitz, and Edgar picking up the slack with Auto Crossbow. Team 3 was used for the boss before Kefka. And Team 1 was solely for Kefka. Celes was important in that battle because of Kefka's Blizzara.
When you level up prior to it, the fights aren't that hard, actually. But, in my first playthrough, I was like Level 11 or something, and I just couldn't get past it. IIRC, I just blew past all the soldiers and got to Kefka. I remember a Desperation Attack was what ended it. Lucky one, there.
I'm going through a bit of a The World Ends With You phase right now.Click THERE:
Terra Celes Edgar Sabin
Locke Cyan
Gau
I leave those last 2 parties up near Banon and use the super party to beat everybody
group 1: Edgar (bio blaster wrecks the regular troops.)
group 2: Locke, Gau, Celes
Group 3: Sabin, Terra, Cyan
Strike Team:
Terra
Celes
Edgar
Locke
Wall Team:
Sabin
Gau
Last Resort:
Cyan
To contemplate is to look at shadows...
I used all three parties evenly to be honest.
1
Sabin
Terra
2
Edgar
Celes
3
Locke
Cyan
Gau
I normally just have Sabin, Terra, Celes, and Locke in one party and just destroy everything with them and case closed.
Of course this was after I had already beaten the game like a million times. I remember one time I had to start my entire game over because everyone was too weak and I didn't have enough healing potions to keep anyone alive, that got me angry a little bit![]()

I used the party in this order
Terra
Sabin
Gau
Celes
Terra for her healing magic, Sabin for his blitz, Gau for at the time I used rage brawler which allowed him to do 2000 attack on all of the soilders. I actually just had Celes to level her up and to use runic of Kefka at the end.

I am in this situation right now as I type this. Mine are...
Team 1- Sabin & Terra
Sabin has the "Fire Dance" Blitz, which kills each enemy. I have Terra using Cure, when she actually gets a chance to fight.
Team 2- Cyan & Edgar
Edgar is the powerhouse with this team. He is able to kill the enemies at once with Bio Blaster. Cyan is merely on as backup.
Team 3- Gau, Locke, & Celes
This team is sitting in front of Banon, protecting him and taking care of enemies that go around the other teams. Gau's "Soldier" Rage and Celes attacking/healing are the focus. Locke is stealing at every turn.
Social Group Endorsements, TFF Awards, and Other Accomplishments (Updated December 26, 2013):
I used Terra, Celes, Edgar, and Sabin and just used that group for the whole event.
My typical party setup is
Team 1
Cyan
Celes
Locke
Team 2
Edgar
Terra
Team 3
Sabin
Gau
I march Team 1 into the fray right away, and use the other two teams to plug up the holes leading to Bannon. Once I've cleared all the "Veldt-"able formations, I march Team 1 down to Kefka (making sure to get Rider on the way). I use Cyan to fight Kefka cuz I think the guy deserves to take a few shots at the sonofabitch.![]()
"I find this all to be highly inappropriate."
For me, I would break up the teams as
Strike team -
Edgar, Sabin, Celes, Locke
Right wall (most likely side to get attacked) Terra and Gau
Back up to Strike team - Cyan
This let me send one group directly towards Kefka and Rider without worrying about Bannon being attacked. The purpose is to literally attack and kill Kefka as soon as possible while still letting me steal from him. If I'm not in the mood to hear Locke say, "Couldn't steal!" I replace him with Cyan so I can have as much damage as possible. By setting up a blitz, a tool skill, and a spell or runic, it would let me have enough time to charge swordtech (or bushido) to 4 and let Cyan do quarter slam. The teams are extremely unbalanced, but I've always hated this part. I wanted to get it out of this part because I worry I'd get weakened by the number of forces Kefka has, so this takes care of it ASAP!
I always make a party of Edgar, Sabin, Celes, Terra and just run around letting them do everything. I've never had a patrol make it past halfway up the map
Edit: Wow, if i would have scrolled up a bit I would have seen that I posted this exact answer a couple of months ago![]()
