What is this, the 10th Remake of FF1?
Square has something special prepped for the 3DS system. In japan the release of Final Fantasy Explorers falls on the same date as the original release of Final Fantasy 1, which means its the anniversary of FF1. You get a free download code for FF1 with the order of Final Fantasy Explorers. If you rather just play FF1, the game will be downloadable on the eShop and it features 3D support if you wanted to use the 3D mode of the 3DS.
Nothing is announced for western audiences yet but I'm sure we'll hear about it sometime soon.

I call it Square really likes their FF1, I mean, it's why they're in business in the first place.

I looked at the photos Siliconera provided, and the graphics look like a cross between the PSP remake and the isometric viewpoint used in Dragon Quest IV, V, & VI's DS remakes. For reference:

Essentially, Square Enix is using a hodgepodge of their best handheld graphics engines, and it looks pretty nice. I actually can't wait 'til it hits stateside. Truth be told........what if they did that with FF 2-6? 3 might not, 2 and 4 are kinda iffy, but 5 and 6 could definitely use a remake like that! Last time they saw a remake (NOT counting cell phones) was on the GBA. What do you think?
