Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness Coming to PS3 and PS4
Through a series of teasers on their site, Square Enix finally announced today that their newest game to announce was as speculated a new Star Ocean game. Titled Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, the game will be coming to the PS3 and PS4 and fit on the timeline of the games between Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 3. Tri-ace will also be back to develop the game for Square Enix with the producer stating that they are wanting it to feel more like Star Ocean 3, even seeing in the familiar design of the logo.
Currently, there are 4 characters that have been previewed. The main character Fidel Camus, the heroine Miki Sorvesta, Lilia a young girl they meet and an unnamed green haired female character.
The story of Star Ocean 5 begins on Feycreed, a planet that is 6000 light years away from earth. Given the style of the characters clothing, they may all be natives with someone else being an outsider.
Combat currently is being described as seamless real time, which may be that rather than going into a combat arena like past games it may all happen in the field. But they also said that the attacks will vary based on range, so there are different short and long range attacks.
Events like the past games will be back as well, but there will also be combat that can happen during these. And the outcome can alter the story and ending, such as if the enemies capture the character.
They are reporting that the game is currently 30% completed with no release window set right now. They also stated that there are not currently thinking about DLC for the game's story. They want to deliver a finished and completed game.

All of the screenshots are scans from the Famitsu interview. After the characters, they also showed off some of the combat and what looks like an event seen where combat could impact the story.
This is likely from a cutscene looking at the detail. Given that the people look more like native than space travelers, they may have stumbled across this starship.

Will there be more of the violation of that planetary treaty act where advanced people visit primitive civilizations?

Judging from the screenshot that shows the characters in what appears to a sci-fi theme environment, I'm going to guess that it is probably a starship. So I'm going to guess there is going to be more liberal violation of that pesky law that doesn't really seem to do anything to stop them.
But noteably the little girl is not in that picture. So I'd wonder if perhaps she is the survivor of a crashed ship. Her cloths say otherwise, but who knows.

I watched several episodes of that Star Ocean EX and there was obviously violation there, but funny enough, you don't hear about the treaty act, at least from what I've seen in the anime.
EDIT: Come to think of it, in the Star Ocean series as a whole, doesn't it share similarities to star trek? I've seen plenty of things that I have also seen in Star Trek, might be just coincidence though.

Yeah, in Star Ocean 3, they make a pretty deal about it and keeping things under wraps, for as much as you can when you crash your high-tech craft in the middle of a city with tons of eye witnesses. It always happens, it's just never stopped them from continuing with the story. And part of the fun is the mix of sci-fi with fantasy.
