Square Enix Announces Star Galaxy

Teased early in the month with a countdown site that many hoped was going to be a new Star Ocean, the countdown came to an end and it was revealed the new sci-fi game from Square Enix is called Star Galaxy. Star Galaxy is a MMO browser based space simulation game.

Players will build up their base and grow units, then battle in up to 2000 large battlefields against other players. The players act as the Commander and manage various aspects in base and battlefield management, such as resources, attacking units and adding buildings. Attacking units are represented as cards that will grow and level up, gaining new skills.

There are four factions to pick from the Boldor Imperial Army, the Holy Knights of Selshion, the Universe Trading Union and the Republic. Each side has their own reasons for fighting the others and are unwilling to back down.

Star Galaxy is being handled by Yahoo! Japan and a closed beta is starting December 20th that you can sign up for.

I hope nobody had their hopes up very high. After TWEWY teaser, I'm never expecting anything good from another teaser from SE.

To be fair, this looks like it could be mildly fun.

Browser based games have come all way, but I haven't clue how capable they are. It could be interesting. Resource management and base building might be fun, but the trailer doesn't really show any gameplay. So it is hard to know what it is going to be like.

But yeah, it is hard to really be sure about any of the teasers that Square puts out these days. I love to see another Star Ocean, but I'm not sure how well they fared, SO4. I guess if Tri-Ace is feeling up to it, they might.
