I would love to see remakes of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. Those games have been retconned so many times, they could use a good upgrade, because as of right now, they don't fit in with the rest of the series.

We need a thread called Eastwood Says, to catalog his greatness and genius.

Although you'll read this, probably like it, the reply by pretending everything I just typed out never happened, I'll take you to school anyway, lest anyone go on thinking MG 1&2 are non-canon.

Metal Gear 1 is the birth of the franchise, and yes, it fits in... Where do you think Big Boss and FOX HOUND came from? Gray Fox is a character in Metal Gear. For god sake, man, they subtly mention it repeatedly in Solid 1...

The second release for NES Snake's Revenge, is a non-canon game (although still extremely difficult and rewarding to complete).

Then they released the second title, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, where you once again have to fight Big Boss, because he evidently survived that fist fight amidst a mine field back in 1. Good times.

You, sir, have been schooled! This has been Vintage Metal Gear 101, and I'm your professor, OT.

Have a wonderful day, and don't **** with something that isn't broken. A modified remake isn't a remake, it's called a reboot, and for the sake of it, you might as well make a new game if that's your plan anyway.

Final Fantasy IV, the story was awesome. You could probably include all the really early Final Fantasies, but this one is what sticks out the most for me. I know it had a remake but what I want is a full HD remake.

A retcon has nothing to do with the majority of story points. It means they have changed details in the newer games to contradict what was in the originals. The major plot points and characters stay the same, but small details are either changed or homogenized across the board.

    Example 1:
Kyle Schneider survived metal gear 1 and was a Zanzibar mercenary in mg2.

    Ex 2:
In mg2 Snake was said to be half British, half Japanese, working for NATO led foxhound. In mgs1, he was American with Japanese ancestry working for the army.

    Ex 3:
In mg2 Big Boss tells Snake that he's his father. In mgs1, Snake learns he's actually a clone from Liquid.

    Ex 4:

Master Miller went from looking Japanese to a blonde Val Kilmer.

In mgs3 big boss clearly losses his eye in 1964. In mg2, it's mentioned he lost it in the 80s.

In mgs3 it's implied that foxhound was founded in the 70s, where mg1 and mg2 have it being founded in the 90s

In mgs4, they revealed that Big Boss was still alive but in a coma. He was pretty dead in mg2.

In mgs5, Big Boss gets a prosthetic left arm. In mg2, it was said that he lost his left hand battling Snake.

In mg2, Gray Fox says that Big Boss rescued him from a labor camp after the Vietnam war. Big Boss was in a coma for 10 years since before the war ended.

And that's why the games should be remade, to pretty them up and to clear up plot holes

Outlaw, have you played MGS4 and Peace Walker? Most of what happened in the first two games has been retconned. Hell, even the events of MGS3 contradict the events of the first two games, and I'm sure Phantom Pain will do the same. So like what you should have done before you wrote that reply, go **** yourself.

It happens in virtually every form of media, and in far more historic and famous series. Sherlock Holmes was killed originally, but it was changed to him faking his death because of public outrage.

In star wars, Obi Wan originally told Luke that Vader had killed his father.

Doctor Who is practically based on the retcon.
Star Trek changes things all the time.

It's not really about ****ing things up. It's more about just rebooting two older games to update the series as a whole and to make things make sense to a bunch of nerds.

Hell final fantasy 7 retcons itself all the time.

Which was the retcon. I don't think they intended for that originally. It just made its way into the story like that.

And yes, I know that, loaf. It just wasn't originally Lucas' plan.

My point though, is that just because something was changed later, doesn't mean that everything before it was true and perfect. In the metal gear series though, so much was changed to both make sense and to accommodate new, that the old should be updated to fit.

I'm literally going through my head games I would like to see remade but each time a certain title comes across my mind, I'm wanting that title to have a new entry in the series rather than a remake. For games I definitely would like to see remade these are the titles I am coming up with:

Bahamut Lagoon - It is a great strategy game for it's time and an update to the game would be fantastic seeing the game on a modern engine with it's hybrid tactical and turn-based gameplay.

Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 2 - While the game is great, the combat does need to be fixed and the hit detection. This is a really good game for '93 but if it was retold in a remake with not only updated graphics, but fixes to the bugs that harmed the game and interfered with the soundtrack, it would be even better.

Radia Senki/Chronicle of the Radia War - Now many of you may not know this one. It is an action rpg for the famicom developed by Tecmo. It also has an existing fan-translation which is great for rpg fans to play through this game. While it is a great game, the character A.I is terrible as was SoM's, to see an update with a remastered soundtrack, a nice world to explore, fixed a.i., and a retold story, that would be great.

I thought about this for a while. I would like to see a remake of Metal Gear. But only a graphics upgrade and some good voice acting. Bolster the script and put more meat on it's bones, but don't screw with what made the game a franchise. It all started with 1, it was all about 1 for 3 games. The 3rd game was made in request for a proper sequel to 1. I would want it to be top-down, fixed camera, 6-8 buttons, including Up, Down, Left, Right. That's a huge part of what made those first 2 games brutally, prickishly, "I own a milk crate full of busted NES contollers" hard. An assholian brand of difficulty and frustration unlike almost any other. Those are two games I can say are perfect just the way they are, but NES graphics and music is brutal. I used to play with the volume down, still do after about 30 minutes on any game. It gets annoying. So it could use a makeover, not a rewrite or reboot. And make it even harder. Make that dog at the start rush you every time, just to mess with rookies until they learn how to kill a dog. It's a good learning experience in the long journey ahead of them.

It's their own fault for messing with their own storyline and canon. Since Solid 1, the games have been brutally easy (due to advanced control). MGS1 was a perfect all-round game with the best storyline of them all. Since MGS2, they gone so far off the rails with it, it'll never come back. They compromised consistency for the sake truly irrelevant things that didn't even improve the games, characters, or storyline. I feel changing the best of the games to be more like the worst (at least storyline wise) is a counter productive step for the franchise. How could they rightly go ****ing with the origins of the franchise? 1, 2, and Solid all lined up, and they are the best games. I wouldn't look forward to Konami ****ing them up any time soon.

I want to see a Square classics line. Again, not ****ed with, enhanced. The greats don't need tuning. First and foremost, XENOGEARS. This game didn't get to realize it's potential to be the best game ever made. It has the best storyline in any game I've ever played, hands down, and that's saying a lot.
Ogre Battle: March of The Black Queen. Excellent game that could use a graphics upgrade, some new classes, monster units, and stages.
FF1-8 & Tactics. Would be great to play these games with fresh experience and feel with new secrets and upgrades. Remaster the best of the franchise, reminding people there was greatness once, before IX and the Enix era.
Secret of Mana. I call it Zelda done properly. Great game that would benefit from from new graphics.
Saga Fontier is another game the average RPG fan is oblivious to. Marvel of video gaming, and a prime example of Squaresoft's groundbreaking, innovative work in the genre.

There's so many Square classics that have become dated. And although still better than most newer games, they could reach a broader audience if they looked and sounded better.

Also, Rock & Roll Racing. This game you could fully reboot. Keep the fundamentals, add more vehicles, worlds, racers, weapons and upgrades for each vehicle, customization and tuning options, and make a career mode rather than just a single season before beating it. This game would do extremely well in the online era as well.

What I would do for any of these to be enhanced properly/not ****ed with.

I was pretty stoked when they were making the Xenosaga games because I figured if they were successful enough, they'd eventually circle back and just remake Xenogears in some way, or perhaps create a game around one of the earlier episodes in the Xenogears series, i.e. a previous incarnation of Elly and Fei. How could would that have been? I'd love to see another game in the Ogre Battle franchise. I have fond memories of the SNES and N64 versions. FIGHT IT OUT!

Tactics would be interesting. It probably has the most remake potential, if I'm honest, but they probably won't because of the PSP port a few years back. And if they ever made a Final Fantasy VI remake/remaster, I'd target my nearest retailer and use Coin Toss like the blackjack-playin', world-travelin', casino-dwellin', airship-flyin', heart-stealin', eyebrow-raisin' gambler that... well, that I'd like to be.

Points to you, sir, for even bringing this game up. What a fun game. I rented it at least a dozen times for the SNES back in the '90s. I should've just bought the damn game. Adding customization/tuning options would be awesome. I salivate at the thought of an online mode.

How much of a headache would the licensing issues be in this day of digital rights, though? Back in the day, they could get away with nasty-sounding MIDI versions of songs like "Bad to the Bone" and "Born to be Wild." Today? Well, I guess if any company has the cash to pull it off, it's Activision-Blizzard.
    Hero façade. Villain at heart.

Last time I posted, the only games I could think of for a remake were the two Metal Gear games. I did some thinking, and there is another game I would love to see remade. My choice is Flashback for the Genesis. The game was fantastic and way ahead of its time when it was made, utilizing things like motion capture, and had a very good story that was kind of wasted on audiences in 1992, who just wanted to shoot things. It also provided a sense of hyper-realism to the player. You get shot in most games, and you lose some health, but overall, you function properly. If you get shot in Flashback, if you aren't wearing a bullet proof vest, you're lucky to be alive. It doesn't necessarily need a remake, but there's a reason why it should get a remake.

The game came with a complimentary comic book, adding in story points and details that the developers didn't put into the game, because it was a platformer, and nobody wanted to pay attention to that much detain in a platforming game. I would love to see all the story elements incorporated into the game. Plus I think this game would be an opportunity to give video game audiences an authentic realistic experience.

Not sure what you meant by his plan all along.

I always assumed Obi Wan was just trying to hide the truth so he said he killed his father instead of he is your father.

It's quite clear to the rest of us, as well loaf. Sometimes details are changed as a story progresses, other times characters just lie, to save a juicy reveal for a later moment. Had Obi told him the truth, the most famous scene in all of Star Wars wouldn't be what it is today.

But some of Pete's other points regarding Metal Gear, and how they changed hard facts about characters (not including occupation changes, that one stumped me more than the Obi thing. Konami butchered it's own work repeatedly, from game to game changing irrelevant little details.

Some people just don't grasp the concept and art of storytelling. My mother is the same way, if a character says something, that's how it is. She takes every line of the script like a sworn oath. She hates Pirates of The Caribbean because everyone is always lying and screwing each other over. Says she can't follow it enough to enjoy it.

Treasure Hunter G anyone? I would also like to see that remade. It's a really unique game back in the days of snes, looked kinda funny with it's CG graphics, and the tactical battle system works kind of odd. It was playable, just really weird how it worked.

I don't know why, but I just want to see these lesser known games revived, shoot, I even want to see Terranigma remade/revived somehow.

    Terranigma was SWEET!!!

Yet another classic gem from the SNES. Love the old Zelda, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia live action battle systems. They were the most fun and rewarding for me.

I actually never completed Terranigma because it was so hard to find a copy of. I should DL the Rom and beat it.

I agree with the games. Konami needs to add some story elements to both games, more so to Metal Gear; Metal Gear 2 is already almost as long as MGS. I would differ in saying they fit just they omit some information like: Big Boss saying Snake is his son in MG2 or why Miller left Big Boss and changed his name - which some of that may be explained in MGS V. They could add some elements of the Patriots but we kind of have an understanding, though how could Zero not know Big Boss is building something in Africa. How does Big Boss get past Zero in becoming the leader of Foxhound again? Does Big Boss reconcile? These are some questions that could be answered in a remake or MGS V.

OB:MotBQ is the starter one, but I consider Tactics Ogre (Let Us Cling Together) as the superior game, if only because it's a pretty darn complex Tactical RPG where options matter. Then again, they DID re-release TO on the PSP.

FFVI needs a next-gen remake. I mean, there's next-gen models for the main characters of every pre-FFVII game... Though, they'd need to rework the story a bit: maybe expand a bit on Kefka's descent into evil, a bit of all the character's stories, and expand on the World of Ruin (FFVI and RS3 were good precursors on open-world games; there's NO excuse right now with WRPGs essentially taking it to near-perfection).

Speaking of RS3 and remakes...SaGa Frontier is a great game, but THE game they have to remake AND release into the West is Romancing SaGa 3. IMO, it was a game that was too ahead of its time; I dare say that I'd compare it to Dragon Age: Origins, if only because DA perfected what RS3 tried to do. THEN, and only then, I would seek a SaGa Frontier remake.

As for other remakes...hmm, tough one. There's extended editions of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, but no extended editions of Neverwinter Nights; maybe Beamdog is overdue for a remake? Then again, there's Sword Coast Legends, so a bit tough to remake the game to work a bit more like NWN II... Maybe have a company take Suikoden from Konami and make the first three games into a remade trilogy? Suikoden I was nice, Suikoden II was better in nearly every aspect, and Suikoden III was...innovative, to say the least.

Oh yeah, and to have Harebrained Studios release a cheap campaign remaking the SNES, Genesis and Sega CD versions of Shadowrun. The UGE that some fans are trying to do is kinda stuck.
Delivering scathing wit as a Rogue using Sneak Attack.

Pester me on the Giant in the Playground Forums if you really need me.

    The Final Boss Theorem:
The size of the ultimate form of the final boss is inversely proportional to it's chances of actually beating your party. If you agree with this, please copy and paste this valuable piece of info on your sig. AND, if you're evil and villainous...never settle for a big form when a smaller form is more kickass...

'Tis a shame I can only place names now...:

Ok I've been sidestepping this all along now but I'm going to be honest here, I also want to see a remake of Chrono Trigger. Square made many ports of it, why not give it a proper remaster or remake? flesh out the story some, give the characters new techs to work with, give it a nice remastered soundtrack. I know there was a team working on it but it was a 3rd party person wanting money for something that didn't belong to them.

So much this. I want to see the tie in and how time travel crosses with the alternate/home worlds

    Prayers were finally answered:

In the history of videogame remakes, RE2 has always been my most wanted. RE3:Nemesis remake is now inevitable.

    2015 - What a year.

I've bought many remasters, but remakes are something I don't take the risk on. If I really loved a game the first time around, I don't feel like it needs a remake. A remaster is just the same game, but updated to the latest graphics, and I like that for nostalgia.

It's why I'm pretty sceptical about the Final Fantasy VII Remake. I'm up there as being one of the biggest fans of the game, and I'll defend it until the day I die, but it had a particular charm that only 1997 graphics was capable of portraying. It was quirky, and the graphics of the time made it more so. I feel by remaking it and changing everything about it won't make it Final Fantasy VII for me. While CC (and I suppose DoC as I'm a Vincent fan) was amazing, all the spin-offs gained it a fanbase that I really hate. It'll be the same with the remake.

As far as Metal Gear goes... I'd quite like to see them remade. I've not yet played them. I wouldn't mind Metal Gear Solid remade either, just so that it looks pretty alongside MGS2 and MGS3. It was an awesome game. I feel like any Metal Gear Solid game could be remade a hundred times, and only get better.

Parasite Eve probably could do with one. Those cutscenes would look even ****ing weirder in HD.
