    PSN - Welcome Back!

Now that PSN is live again, the good guys and girls at Sony have now released details of their Welcome Back packages which will go live shortly after the PS Store is back up and running [hopefully] at the end of the month.

Here's the details of the packages for those who don't know yet.

    US:
Source: Details for PlayStation Network and Qriocity Customer Appreciation Program in North America – PlayStation Blog

Now that some PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been restored and you’re once again enjoying online gaming and entertainment, we’re happy to provide details about the “Welcome Back” appreciation program for customers in North America. We developed the program as an expression of our gratitude for your patience, support and continued loyalty during the service outage. From all of us at PlayStation, thank you and welcome back!

This package will be made available to all existing registered PlayStation Network and Qriocity users in North America (US and Canada), and will be made available shortly after we have fully restored the service. More specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live.
All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

    • LittleBigPlanet
    • Infamous*

    • We are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.

I would like to thank all of the developers and publishers involved in this programme for their support in making this happen. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you.

You will be able to access this content once PlayStation Store comes back online and we are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support and keep checking back on the blog for more information.

*For eligibility for the welcome back programme consumers must be an account holder on 20 April 2011. Specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live. All existing PSN registrants have 30 days from when the welcome back programme goes live to redeem their content.

*For the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replace with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games.

*For the German market, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody’s Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality.

*Access to the 30 days free PS Plus subscription is only available for those countries where PS Plus is offered. You will have access to the PS Plus content planned for May for 30 days. Access to the free games and exclusive features finishes at the end of the 30-day subscription period. Anything you buy with exclusive discounts, dynamic themes and premium avatars are yours to keep forever.

I'm unsure about other areas. Feel free to post a link, and I'll include them if necessary.

    Some other information:

    • If you've recently signed up to PSN after it went down, you won't be eligible for the "Welcome Back" package; it's "Welcome Back" for a reason.
    • If you own both a PS3 and PSP system, and have used your account on both, you will be eligible for the "Welcome Back" package on both systems. Therefore, you'll get four new games. Cool, eh?
    • PS Home content for EU hasn't been decided yet, but it looks like the US will be getting the better deal anyway.

So, which games will you be picking out when it goes live where you are?

I've already got LittleBigPlanet and Infamous, so it'll be Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty and Dead Nation for me I think, as I'm not too hot on racing games (unless someone can give it a good word for Wipeout HD/Fury).

As for PSP... ugh. Good games, but either ModNation PSP or Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation. Still deciding, and I need a new memory card anyway so I have time. Recommendations?

I am a little disappointed with the selection as the average metacritic rating for these games is over 84%, so they're high quality games and most likely to be owned by everyone anyway. I've bumped into someone who owns four of the PS3 ones already, so his choice has already been made for him.

Not taking a dig. Free stuff is cool. But a wider variety might've been nice.

I think that it's pretty awesome that you can get stuff for both systems.

I would probably go for Little Big Planet for my PSP- I own it on the PS3 already, but what the hey- it's portable. I know I'm not a fan of Killzone, have no idea what ModNation is nor Pursuit force.

I wish they had Rachet and Clank available for free download in the US on the PS3, cause I'm not sure about those other games. I heard inFamous was pretty good, though.

Pursuit Force is a video game for the PlayStation Portable. It puts the player in the role of a police agent who joins up to a law enforcement agency known as the Pursuit Force, to restore order to a city overrun with crime. This elite unit specialises in direct armed encounters with adversaries, whether it be on foot or on the bonnet of a speeding car. The player has to try to seize cars and motorbikes while engaging in gun battles at speeds of over 150*miles per hour (240*km/h). It is set in fictional Capital State (which includes Capital City) in America where there are various criminal gangs to contend with.

And ModNation is a racing game.

So glad it's back, and I love Sony for giving us free games!

For PS3 it's going to be LittleBigPlanet and Dead Nation or Ratchet and Clank. Not sure about the second game. If I didn't already own inFamous it would be that. It's a good thing I didn't buy LBP the other day then.

For PSP it will be ModNation and Killzone Liberation.

It's good we get 30 days Playstation Plus too. There's a few PS+ offers I want to take advantage of.

Should have figured they would offer first party titles not that they're bad. If I have room to download them I will get at least Modnation Racers. The second game would be Killzone Liberation. However, I can honestly see myself not really playing them. I'm not really a person who takes advantage of something just because it is free. If it doesn't interest me then it doesn't matter that whatever it be is free.

    Re: PSN - Welcome Back!

Well, I figured this article might be helpful. Sony totally got hacked again.

Sony PSN hacked for a second time - International Business Times

Sony's ongoing battle to win back public trust in the wake of its PSN nightmare has just taken another serious blow as a new maintenance notice indicates that its network has once again been hacked.

Sony Corp.'s Executive Deputy President Kazuo Hirai bows his head with his executives Shiro Kambe (L) and Shinji Hasejima as they apologize for a massive security breach of its PlayStation Network at a news conference in Tokyo. Hirai apologized on Sunday for a security breach that allowed hackers to gain access to personal information on 77 million accounts for its PlayStation Network service.

The notice appeared today on the password reset page of the company's website. The new security breach reportedly stems from the the same group of hackers using the information they originally stole.

The hackers reportedly infiltrated the new mandatory PSN password reset system, manipulating the confirmation link sent to individuals trying to change their PSN password, modifying it into to tool that has allowed them to once again take control of many users accounts.

In a statement posted on CNET Sony wrote:

"Unfortunately this also means that those who are still trying to change their password via PlayStation.com or Qriocity.com will be unable to do so for the time being. This is due to essential maintenance and at present it is unclear how long this will take."
Those that have already changed their password will not be effected by the latest hack. But with reports of the hackers manipulated confirmation link already appearing on several message boards across the internet, it seems Sony may well be back at square one.
Man, people suck. What the hell is the point of this hacking?

Notoriety and lulz. That's basically it. However, I'm one of those that aren't affected by it because I changed my password on my PS3. But that does indeed suck.

Thankfully, I never entered any credit information, because having just read yesterday that it was sort of online, I did not change my password on my PSP. I wish I did the same for my PS3, though. I'm a bit worried about that, even though the account linked to it is kind of old.

That's a bit silly, really. In my opinion anyway. Why not take advantage and enjoy the games anyway? If you don't try something, you'll never know if you like it. I'd rather get a game I was unsure about or would never try out otherwise for free, than take a risk and part with £20+ for it.

You also say it like it's a terrible thing to do too. If they're giving it out, then why the **** not? Twenty-four days went by without the network. Sure, PSN users lived through it (I don't see why anyone wouldn't lol), but it's still an inconvenience. A lot of people see this as a peace offering, and are coming back to Sony with their tails between their legs. People like me who weren't that bothered about PSN being down feel rewarded for not losing faith in them, and sticking with them for what is considered in the gaming world as hard times for everyone involved.

    Also, PSN wasn't hacked again. It was just an exploit that was found with the password reset. Using someone's email and password to gain access to their account isn't "hacking". Also, I don't understand how that worked... I could have sworn you could only reset the passwords on a machine that you'd used to download stuff. o.O;

I don't think it is terrible that Sony is offering free games or that people who take up their offer are sheep. I stuck through this ordeal with Sony as well having a PS3 and PSP. I even bought 2 PSP games a couple of days ago. Doesn't that show I'm sticking with the PSP/Sony?

I'm just a person, for example, who mostly won't take free food if offered. Some may find it silly not to take advantage of something free, but if I don't have an interest in whatever it may be then I still won't partake of it when it is free. Unless it is on the cusp of me having enough interest that being free pushes it to the "want" stage.

Take heed of "if you don't try something, you'll never know if you like it". I'm a very good judge when it comes to stuff that I'll like or dislike. After all I should know myself. I never have explicitly shot myself but I know I won't like the experience... unless I'm a masochist. I'm not. I did go onto say that if I have room, I will get Modnation Racers as that did interest me when it came out. As the gamestop employee said to me, as I was purchasing a back-up copy of FFV Advance which I'll most likely need, that Modnation Racers feels similar to Mario Kart. I like Mario Kart so I'll probably enjoy the game, yet I would not play it much because I'm focused on other games.

    Re: PSN - Welcome Back!

Vic the videos recent and my understanding the info is accurate, however two sides to every coin. Sony say they hacked the PSN network and the other saying they didn't, sadly we will never find out.

When I say fuck sony i mean it from the bottom of my heart, and i think the same for alot of rip off merchants (as thats all they are) be it apple, EA, xbox etc

I am disgusted over the last decade as to how most of them operate, buying a HD TV? You may want to pick up the HD wire you will need for it to work, this is sold separately for no reason at all other than to make you pay even more for an already over priced product.

Apple.... nothing is compatible with their shit, forcing you to pay for their over priced shit.. i even bought their headphones, which i dont like as they arent comfy and much to my dismay, the wire doesnt reach very far, not unless i have a pocket for my iphone under my arm pit or strapped to the back of my neck... Only way to make it a proper length wire is to buy the wired remote which your headphones plug into, this costs more than the headphones, making it cost like 90.00 in total for ****in headphones!!! That will break soon anyway (they always do)

I could go on, but im just ranting and going way off topic so ill stop..

But seriously, **** sony, take millions more from them i say, they deserve it

I shall shed no tears for billion dollar corps getting their just deserves, i wish it would happen alot more !

Yeah, should probably get back to the original topic, which I believe was the "Welcome Back!" package Sony is (was?) offering to PSN users on the relaunch of PSN. While the exploit story is related, probably should start another thread for that if you want to discuss that.

I don't know if my password on my PS3 is working or not-it's constantly telling me that it experienced an error signing into PSN when I turn it on-but I might check out LittleBigPlanet and Dead Nation or something if I do. Anyhoo...

Sony says PSN Store to return on 24/05/11

I'm a little confused about this welcome back package, I'm wondering whether or not the downloads will be limited by console. Since myself, and two of my sisters have PSN accounts, I wonder if that means I'll be able to download everything.

There's no sure way of knowing, but I'm guessing they definetly won't be sending out hardcopies. You'll probably just have to wait as the games download, whether it takes several hours or not depends on what you choose and how fast your broadband is.

Well that sounds fantastic that they are going to be giving us free games, really I just want the PS Store to be back so I can get the DLC for Mortal Kombat and activate my online pass to play online.

But for my two on PS3 I'll probably go with: LittleBigPlanet & inFamous.

For PSP: LittleBigPlanet & Killzone Liberation for me.

This has me excited about the PS Store coming back online. But my PSP only has like 750MB available so idk how I'd be able to dl both of those games. I hope they send hard copies of the PS3 games but I doubt that would occur. A guy can hope though.
