Pokemon Gen VI has been announced

Nintendo Direct | Misc. | Nintendo

The next generation of Pokemon has been anounced with Pokemon X and Pokemon Y set to be released worldwide on October 13th, 2013. The clip covers the 3 new starters: Froakie, Chespin and Fennekin as well as many other features that will be new to the series, like fully 3-D overworld and battles.

What do you guys think of the next Gen of Pokemon? Personally I'm still settling into Black and White 2 so this comes as a bit of a shock to me.

EDIT: This just shows the new games, instead of having history on all the previous gens as well.

"Everything sucks past first generation"... there, I beat some jerk to it.

Honestly, this looks pretty good, I wont lie, I was hoping for a full blown home console Pokemon game, though after seeing this I don't really mind. Pokemon models look amazing to say the least. I only hope this game/s does an equally impresive leap Gold/Silver/Crystal made over their predecessors.

I was really hoping they would announce a Ruby/Sapphire remake but still no luck on that. The starters aren't too bad but do we really need another fox (vulpix, zorua), frog (Poliwrath, Politoad, Seismetoad) or beaver looking thing. Also it looks like it's going to be centred around France and rollerblades may be a replacement for running shoes or the bike.

First 3 Pokemon games weren't that great. The Gold and Silver ones were the best!

I have lost track of these games, I was however wondering what names they were going to use now since most colors were done lol.

    I'll hold my breath.

I haven't finished a game since R/S/E, due to repetitive gameplay. Don't get me wrong, I love pokemon, but without a good story line I'm just relying on gameplay to get me through.
This looks to follow the same formula.

As much as I still love pokemon games, I kinda shudder to see the new pokemon in this set. I'm not one of the 'anything past gen 1 sucks' crowd by any means. The originals were awesome, Gen II was even better, Gen III was cool, Gen IV was pretty much fine, lot of awesome shit, but this is also when some of the less awesome stuff started to show up, but it was a minority, so it was still fine, but then Gen V hit. In Gen V, it became really really obvious that they're running out of ideas. Some of the Gen V pokemon were just unbelievably lame. There were still a few cool ones weaved in, but the lamers are becoming a majority. I really hope they do a better job with gen VI, because I would rather see the series just stop, and start releasing remakes and sequels then get into a downward trend and never recover.

Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Blessed is the Madgod, who tricks us when we are foolish, punishes us when we are wrong, tortures us when we are unmindful, and loves us in our imperfection.

It looks awesome enough for me to play. Can't wait to see what the new starters can evolve into
Please read the poetry from two great friends of mine. May they find peace.

Gold and Silver were my favorite versions and still are, I was really excited when they remade them. White and Black were cool the first play through, but I wasn't really impressed by the new pokemon or the starters for that matter. At least with this generation the starters are cosmetically appealing. >.> Also, am I the only one that was disappointed that they got rid of the first pokemon in your party following you? I really liked that feature in Heart Gold and Soul Silver I don't understand why they took that away in Black and White and seemingly this new version as well.

Regardless I'll probably end up getting this when it comes out just for kicks. Fennekin looks adorable.

I loved all the games up til Pearl and Diamond. I will play them all regardless as I am a huge fan of pokemon, but honestly my expectations on it are really low.

The gameplay looks kinda cool...but yeah, that shitty new pokemon designs really kill it for me. I just could not justify dropping $40 on Black or White.

I've still got to get Black 2 before even thinking about the sixth generation of Pokemon. I'm a bit behind the times it seems

Honestly, i've always been a little nervous going into a new generation as i'm scared i'll be horribly disappointed - but somehow, the creators still manage to make some beautiful places to explore and some truly magnificent Pokemon to raise. I was probably the most nervous going into Generation V - but i ended up falling in love with the world of Unova and its diverse set of Pokemon (especially Oshawott which would be my all-time favourite starter and Jellicent, the coolest jellyfish and Ghost-type Pokemon i know).

I'm not really a fan of the Gen VI starters - at least based on their appearances. But, i'm still open to playing the games - who knows, we may actually be pleasantly surprised
