Released at the end of October, Gamespot claims that it has sold 122,300 copies by the end of its first fortnight. These numbers are spread across four different gaming platforms with Xbox 360 doing the best with 62,000 units and PlayStation 2 the worst with just 3,300 units.

Activision had secured major names to endorse the game such as Eminem and Daft Punk and had spent several years developing the game.

DJ Hero was an attempt to migrate gaming into a new genre and also to open it up beyond karaoke-based games such as SingStar.

It was initially expected the game would be the third music-based blockbuster of the year after Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 – both of which were released in September.

The Beatles game sold 706,913 units in its opening week while Guitar Hero 5 sold 581,476 units in its first week.
