Grand theft auto: best plot?

Yes, we all know that GTA has some badass gameplay and hookerbanging and such. but in games there are two specific things we come back for. Story and Gameplay. which one do you think has the best story?

For me, it's a cross between Vice City and San Andreas. I like GTA IV so far, but really I only play to cause destruction in all of them.

GTA IV online, in a game where you only have a rocket launcher = win.

GTAIV, followed by San Andreas.

GTAIV has the whole feel of New York down. I usually rant and rave about it, but it's just damn good. I mean cmon, the story of an immigrant coming over to America in order to avenge shit from the past, chock full of the harsh reality of how the city can be. Plus, there are so many landmarks, and even notable buildings from all over the city. It's way too legit.

GTA IV definitely had the best storyline. I mean whats not to enjoy, there's love, violence, and vengence. It is what a GTA game should be. ITs not all about destroying shit, though that is a rather large part of it...

Second for me has to be GTA San Andrea. I still hook up my PS2 just so that I can play this game. The story is great, plus gangs wars is awesome. Fight a rival game to control turf. I also enjoyed that you was able to go to the gym and workout, do fight training. Overall great game....

Well, I am split between San Andreas and Vice City, but it boiled down to the overall badass feel of the game, I ended up picking Vice City because Vercetti started the game ruthless and in the end was still ruthless. I accidently voted san andreas though , so just add one to Vice City's total instead

I wasn't aware anyone played the GTA series for the plot.

I wasn't really into GTAIV. Too "real" I guess. I was more into the Vice City plot, which also happens to be the best game in the series.

I liked GTA3 the best. It had a good plot overall; not too deep to get lost into by any means, but it had enough things going on to keep it interesting. The game had a good balance of mindless fun and interesting missions. It was something fresh, something that no one really experienced before, and for those reasons, I like GTA3 the best!

I never played Vice City, but I liked San Andreas a lot as well. It added to even more that originated from GTA3. The Gangwars were fun, but I thought that the plot was overly long and it seemed to go into a lot of different directions but it resolved well at the end. GTA4 is a game that I didn't get too far into, it just seemed way too stale for me to get through. I probably didn't give it a fair shot, but it just didnt interest me enough.

I haven't played most of the GTA games but from the ones I did San Andreas would be the one with the best story, I'm maybe the only guy who beat this game several times solely because it.

I'm not sure what kind of story GTA II has, I'm not sure if it has one in the first place (it's been a while since I've played it) but I liked the multiple choices the game always gave you and you never really needed to follow any straight path, storywise also.

GTA Vice city is the best plot for me.
I really enjoyed the gameplay & the city is fabulous with awesome graphics.

San Andreas had the best plot in my opinion. The game play was purely superb, as were the missions, and it's variety of miscellaneous activities to do in the game was massive.

I played Vice city first, then GTA 4 after San Andreas, and GTA 4 really had a great plot as well. The missions also had a lot exciting and difficult moments, but afterwards their just wasn’t much to do. I guess I can be a Nazi on replay value

I think the series is really evolving to be more about killing and hookers. A game with that kind of gameplay can have an amazing story. GTA III was good for showing what the game could be compared to the prior titles. But as time goes on, the games just keep getting better and better. Which is why GTAIV is the best story wise. Well..best in just about every area. Although there is a lot they should have kept from San Andreas.

Although honestly, if it would have been longer my vote would have been for Lost and Damned.
