    Day One Purchases

How many TFFers find it necessary to buy a game on the day of it's release (or at least pretty soon after)? What is it about certain games that compel us to pay full price, when we can wait for a bit longer and get the same thing for a lower cost? Are there any games you're planning to buy day one?

For me, there are some games I don't mind waiting longer to get, but for a precious, select few, I feel the need to get them ASAP. I guess because of all the waiting I had to endure while the game was being developed, hyped up, and/or localized, to wait any longer would seem impossible. It's at those times when I don't mind shelling out the money for the full price of the game, even though I know that just by waiting a tad bit longer, I could save a little cash and still get the game I wanted. I'm sure there's some fancy psychological term for that, but Lord if I know what that would be.

As for games that I know I'm getting day one: I know that I am definitely getting Batman: Arkham City as soon as it hits store shelves. That is probably my most anticipated game of this year. There's probably a few more, but I can't think of them right now.

Yes. I already know the irony of making a thread about getting more games, when I have another thread dedicated to the games that I have not yet even finished yet. ;P

    Re: Day One Purchases

There are some games I am willing to get day one, that I pre-order and go to Game Stop to get the day of. Not a lot, but a few. Star Fox Assault (which unfortunately wasn't worth it) Brawl and New Vegas, I think, are the only three thus far, but I've also pre-ordered LoZ: Skyward Swords and ES5: Skyrim. Those are games that I am super excited to play, and I want to support them and make sure they make money or something by buying them early, or something. Also, some of them have pre-order prizes. Actually, none of them that I've gotten have, although I did get the collector's edition for New Vegas. But I did order Pokemon Gold with a re-subscription to NP, and that came with some cool stuff that's now lost, I think, heh...

But yeah; mostly to support the game, or to play it right away because I can't friggen' WAIT, man. Although most games, I just buy whenever. (Come to think of it, did I pre-order 13? I think I may have...) Anyhoo...

    Re: Day One Purchases

There are a lot of games I look foward to and must get on the day of release. I like to have it first. Don't really know why, just how I've always been.

Just this year the games I've bought on release day are Dissidia Duodecim, Lord of Arcana, Pokémon Black, Brink, Marvel v Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat, WWE All Stars, Killzone 3 and probably a few more.

I just think, if you look foward to something, why not get it at the first opportunity you get?

    Re: Day One Purchases

The only game I bought on release day midnight was FFXII. It was cool; bought it, went home and went straight to bed...played it for 12 hours straight the next day.

P.S. I got World of Warcraft's Burning Crusade at midnight as well.

    Re: Day One Purchases

If there's a collectors edition for a game I want, you betcha I'll pay the full price for it to have it in my hands on release day. If there's not, then I'll just pick the game up at some point down the road.

If I do pick it up a some point down the road, now with Sony's online passes, I don't think I'll ever buy a pre-owned game again. I shouldn't have to pay to play a game online.

    Re: Day One Purchases

Some games I have bought on the day of release because they had more value to me. Such as: Final Fantasy III (DS). It was the only FF I was missing from the main series. A few days/weeks earlier I bought Final Fantasy XII on the first day. I got Dragon Quest IV, V, VI, & IX as well on the first day. Good thing for DQV since it had such a small print. That is one reason why I get some games, that I truly want, on the first day even though they probably have enough. Besides I don't need to wait to see how the game is if I'm buying on the first day the only error I've made is PSU. I know what I like.

    Re: Day One Purchases

A lot of times I am the wait and let the price come down a little bit kinda guy but there are several games recently that I decided to grab on the first day when they came out. I recently got Final Fantasy XIII, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood & Mortal Kombat the days they came out. AC because I love the series and Mortal Kombat bc its Mortal Kombat!! Lol

As for games I'm looking to snag on the first day they come out, I already pre-ordered Assassin's Creed Revelations and I'm gonna pre-order Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim the next chance I can. They both come out in November too so I'm gonna have overload on which game to play!! Lol, might get Final Fantasy XIII-2 in December as well just don't know if it's worthy of a pre-order just yet

The one game I definitely must have this year is Mass Effect 3. It's just a fantastic series and I want to hit it day one.

A few games I have gotten day one: Assassin's Creed 2 and also Brotherhood, God of War: Chains of Olympus, FF Dissidia Duodecim, and Crisis Core.

Whenever a game i like comes out, i always tend to get excited and want to buy it - however this rarely ever happens as i'm relatively poor and have other commitments that come first. When XIII first came out, i ended up making a day of it with some mates of mine - we all headed to the local JB Hi-Fi store the morning of its release and all bought the special edition sets.

Although the game wasn't as amazing as i had been hoping, it was still a good feeling being able to buy a game the day it came out instead of waiting several months or even years before getting it.

    Re: Day One Purchases

I've never done this, and I've never pre-ordered a game either. Games are quite expensive for me and I'm always happy to wait for a while to see if the price goes down before picking up a copy. FFXIII may have been the only game I've ever bought at full price (Ł40) and that was a few weeks after release.

I'm very tempted to break the habit of a lifetime and preorder Uncharted 3, since I adored Uncharted 2. But I guess I'll have to see where my financial situation is and what kind of preorder bonuses I can get.

I'm guilty! It all depends, if the game has multiplayer/replay value then I snatch it up the day it come's out.

I will be getting Gears of war 3, Call of Duty MW3, The Elder scrolls V: Skyrim, and Batman: Arkham City right when they hit the shelves. I'm so happy they made a semi sandbox Batman game. If you haven't played the Elder scrolls series pick up Skyrim, it's going to be amazing!!!

Anything with Fallout or Elder Scrolls in the title, and any game I know I'm gonna like that has an awesome special edition. Other then that I can wait, my stack of unplayed games is ever growing.

The "Day One/MUST BUY" purchases are usually the MAJOR titles (Grand Theft Auto IV, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Resident Evil 5, etc...)

Right now (for me) that applies to "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" and "Mass Effect 3" as well and maybe "Grand Theft Auto V"

    Re: Day One Purchases

I have a hard time waiting to buy any game that I'm looking forward to playing. I don't care whether or not it has a limited edition or is just a single standard edition. Of course...that does tend to lead me with a pile of un-played games. But hey, it's not like I neglect them altogether.

It's just...there's something about buying the game the day it's released that feels so refreshing and satisfying. I guess it comes from knowing you were a part of an important date for the game: its release date. Maybe I'm just an obsessive freak, too. xD

I've got two pre-orders waiting for m, and I just had Disgaea 4 shipped a few days ago when it came out.

    Re: Day One Purchases

There are certain games that I will wait for the price to go down, and not immediately get. I base this on reviews by magazines, friends who have played, and of course the guys at my local gamestop. Cause unlike most salesmen they will tell me if they think a game sucked ass.

Most of the games I buy are day one releases. Some turn out good, and some turn out bad. Example of bad.. Brink. I was pumped about this game. Bought it for $60 took it home played it for 30 mins threw up took it back. Within 2 weeks the price drop on it was outrageous.

There are some games I will always buy no matter the price. Fallout games, halo, call of duty, and Elder Scrolls. Got Skyrim fully paid for at gamestop right this second.

Sitting here waiting for Rocky, and Che to notice me!!

OMG, It Is Sometimes Crucial For Me To Get A Certain Game On The Day Of Its Release. The Reason, I Want To Be The First To Own It In English...Haha So I Can Get A Head Start On Everyone, And Whoop Some Ass...Hahahahaha A Lot Of The Times I cannot Do This...But When I Can, I Totally Do. I Got Pokémon Black The Day It Came Out, And I Made Sure To Get The Before Opening Hours. I Got The First Copy Ever Of Pokémon Black From That Store...It Was Awesome. It Was Totally Worth It! I Still Play It, even Though I've Beaten It Already, Like The First Couple Days I Had It. Pretty Awesome Game. Just Needs A Home Console Partner, So We Can Play That Shit On The Big Screen.

I have previously gotten a good few ffs on release date not online ones though, they suck. I will be doing the same for XIII-2, Skyrim and Gears of war 3 providing i have the pennies ofcourse, although thanks to this money uncertainty i have never pre-ordered a game i just go to the shop on release date.

    Re: Day One Purchases

I've preordered a LOT of games, most were worth it, but some weren't I'll list them in order of release date from the first I preordered to the most recent. And tell you if those game were worth it, and lastly, about how ong BEFORE it was released I decided to preorder)

1-Final Fantasy III - Nintendo DS (Worth), 4 months before
    2-Pokemon Diamond -Nintendo DS(worth), 2 weeks before
2-Pokemon Pearl -Nintendo DS (worth), 2 Weeks before
3-Metroid Prime 3 Corruption - Wii (Not worth), 2 weeks before
4-Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations - Nintendo DS (worth it) 1 month before
5- Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - Sony PSP (not woth) 1 day before
6-Super Smash Bros Brawl - Wii (worth) 5 months, 2 months, 2 weeks Before (I had to take my money back several times, because I had several money problem at that time)
7- Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo DS) Worth, 2 weeks before
8-Pokemon HeartGold - Nintendo DS, (worth it) 2 weeks before
9-Pokemon Sould Silver - Nintendo DS (worth it) -1 week before
10-NHL Slapshot - Wii (Worth it) 1 week before
11-Pokemon Black -Nintendo DS (worth it) 2 months before
11-Pokemon White - Nintendo DS (worth it) 2 months before
12- Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Over the Nexus: World Championchip 2011 - Nintendo DS (worth it) 10 days before
13-Battlefield 3 - Xbox360 (lol not released yet), 2 months before (as a gift to my brother, but I plan on getting a copy for myself)

Of all these games, there was only 2 games I didn't actually get on release date: Brawl and Pokemon SoulSilver

Now, for the game I actually got on release date without having preordered them

    1-Final Fantasy V Advance - GBA (Worth)
2-Super Mario Galaxy - Wii (Not worth)
3-Digimon World Dusk - Nintendo DS (Worth)
    4-Digimon World Data Squad - PS2 (Worth)

As you can see, most of the time, paying full price for a game IS worth it. Beside, some game barely ever get a price drop. After 3 yearsn and half, Brawl is still at 50$ (canadian dollars) at most store, In store that still keeps them, Digimon World Dusk and Dawn are still 30 $ after 4 years, Pokemon Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver are still 40$... More expencive than Black and White which both got a 5$ price drop here. So many times, waiting is not worth it.
