I've contemplated trying it, like to get in first but I'm waiting to see how well FFXIV is first.
From the videos I saw it looks like it might be some competition for WoW. Keep us posted.
Hey, I got myself invovled into Aion, and I was wondering who else managed to get into the beta. And if anyone was on the same server as me. Maybe we could team up do some quests together.
I'm on Nekezan, Level 11, Ranger. Named BrotherLok.
And in other news, Today is Nintendog adoption day. Remeber that all remaining puppies will be euthanized at the end of the day so to make your selections before 7:30.

I played CB5 and 6. Gonna play on the Open Beta this weekend. Cancelling my WoW Account to play Aion for now and see how it goes!
I'm not sure how I feel about the aerial combat, it seems like it would be kinda clunky, like fighting something underwater in WoW. It also seems like it would really mess with PvP.
Still, I'd like to get into open beta to give it a shot before putting money into this. Can't find jack about signing up for an open beta key, though.
If I got it, I'd end up having to play on EU servers with Djinn, though.
Edit: Got an open beta key! Anyone else plan on playing it the week it's open? We should coordinate! xD
I'll more than likely be playing a cleric or an assassin. I plan to play both if I get into it for serious. >_>;

I will be playing Elyos in Israphel (US)...maybe a Gladiator this time. I got an asmodian Sorc and Elyos ranger so far (levels 19 and 23 respectively).
I havent really tried aerial combat but what I like the most is gliding (it's super fun). You'll see once you reach level 10 XD
Anyhow, the UI/controls are a lot like WoW which makes it really easy to get into if you played WoW. I cant pass judgment yet if Aion is gonna be a WoW-killer/contender until I reach max level and do some endgame. It's got some quirks but I like it a LOT better than WAR and AoC.
If you're tired of WoW being too easy, carebear-ish (or just tired of WoW in general), then Aion is def worth a try.

I've been seeking my WoW replacement for so damn long that I won't even call another game my "Wow Killer" for as long as I live.
At this point I'm severely tired of WoW being EZMode. All I bother doing is leveling characters because raiding is pointless if the gear I bust my ass for becomes free every 3 months and useless every expansion, but I keep going back to it because every other MMO I play isn't as smooth or fluid in it's solo or it's group play, and I always say 90% of the reason I keep playing WoW is because of the customizable UI.
I'll probably have my toons named Dirgon (Assassin) and Ateya (Cleric)
I'll see if I can manage to make it on that server come Sunday.
What's the group-play like? Is there even any in lower levels? If there's not much emphasis on group play I'll probably play an assassin first, since being a healer with no one to heal is rather pointless.

I hear ya Sean, same here. I played WAR,CoX and AoC too and just came back to WoW...raided Ulduar and then joined a hardcore raiding guild and did Ulduar heroic hard modes..then came patch 3.2 (?)..the twink killer. I've had enough lol. I wanted to quit WoW or at least take a break from it (If Aion sucked)
Around level late teen-ish you're going to have some group quests like in WoW. The Open Beta this weekend will have the latest patch (1.5) so there will be a lot more quests and features/instances available.
The character customization is the best I've seen yet in a game as well.
Like I said, I am not getting my hopes up but I am liking the game so far (minus the endgame/Abyss PvP part which I haven't done yet). It'll keep me occupied for several months at least..heck, even gathering seems fun in this game for some reason lol. I already cancelled my WoW account and not missing it at all.

Alota hype surrounding this and champions online, Aion does look good but why does everybody have wings? >__<
How do wings fair in pvp?
Is it good?
Anybody know if its possible to switch between US/Euro servers easily?
Wouldn't mind banding together with some TFFers!
What has it got that wow hasn't?
I really didnt read the lore but it's supposed to be a sign of immortality..they call them daevas lol
Havent tried yet. Real pvp starts at level 25+ in this place called Abyss. I've seen some world pvp at the last beta, nothing to rave about yet though, it was a gank-fest lol.How do wings fair in pvp?
If you meant flying, well, they said that it adds a whole new dimension in pvp...*shrugs*. Flying animations look and feel very natural, but there's a timelimit..it increases as you level and depending on equipment from what I heard. Is it good?
This is one thing I hate about Aion..from what I know, the answer is no atm.Anybody know if its possible to switch between US/Euro servers easily?
Uh..wings? lol. And you got no choice but to be on a "PvP" server. Great character customizations down to the gear level (you can even change the color/skins of your armor). Combat can be pretty engaging with chain skills. (auto-attack will not work unless you're killing a mob that's really low than you). No talent trees though =/What has it got that wow hasn't?
some gameplay footage:
YouTube - Aion Gameplay HD Assassin Elyos
A lot of changes are gonna be in by release (patch 1.5), more instances, quests and westernized features according to NCSoft.
The fact that the game program session exits when unable to login is a bit frustrating. Been trying all morning.
So far, first impressions? Character creation was amazingly complex, I love how I may not see another person using my model - ever. Always annoyed me about WoW and FFXI and was AoCs huge draw for me. Speech is lagging like a bitch for me. The game has randomly closed on me three times when I move to my second monitor, also. :\
Anyways, Ateya the Priest, Dirgon the Scout, and Ateyo the Warrior have been created as Eylos on Israphel.

All of this awesome talk of the character creation made me want to download it, so I'm downloading it now.
Also, the Asmodians is the faction that interests me, so I'll be going in that one. ^^;
Edit: Also looked at the gameplay footage that Quistis has provided and it looks really nice. I'm planning on being an assassin also.

I wanted to play Asmodian, actually, but since Mina said she's already Elyos I figured I may as well.
I just figure if it's anything like WoW, the "ugly" or "dark" race will attract more intelligent and serious players overall.
I have Ateya, Ateyo, and Dirgon, same classes, on Israphel as Asomdian, as well.
Edit: No, the game's not free. It's a retail MMO just like any other. Buy the game, pay the monthly subscription fee.
Aion is a full on PvPvE game, just like WoW WAS at level 60 in PvP servers. Two factions, one central badguy faction that both factions are trying to kill while killing the opposing player faction.
Getting to level 5 alone took me over an hour. I like that, in a way. The game is beautiful, the graphics aren't too system insense but look amazing, and I never once found myself just staring at things in WoW. Though I did it a bunch in FFXI and in AoC.

Well, Elyos don't look that bad either I suppose. I guess I'm just a bit of a goth because I like black. I'll try out the Elyos also when AION finishes downloading. I just hope my comp can handle it.
Edit: Just checked the site, I pass the minimum requirements, but not the recommended. *Sigh* I really need to save up and build another computer.

so I'm dumb, my Asmodians are on Kaisinel. I typod. xD
The length of time it's taking to log in makes me sad. :\
Just got my key; I will confirm that character creation is pretty deep.
Also, about the whole WoW raiding thing and "twinks" getting killed. I have an easy solution that takes a few steps. (Again, this is coming from someone who doesn't care about raiding and pvp and all of that nonsense. I only play for the Lore....however inaccurate it is.)
1. Stop taking raiding so seriously. =P Or, don't raid so much. (Again, unless in an RP server.)
2. Don't PVP so much, unless in an RP server.
3. Since I'm mostly PvE, being twinked out doesn't really fit my style. If you're big into PVP it's fine, but.. it's not really necessary, I don't think. It gives a clear advantage, but.. eh. Then again, everyone probably twinks, so whatever.
Besides, if your twink gear expires, just get the next tier up and you're all set to go. Gives you something to do rather than raiding the same old shit every day.

Let's not turn this into a WoW debate. WoW's lore is bullshit, which defeats the purpose to play for that. WoW's raiding is pointlessly easy now. The hard stuff is pointless in going through the headache for because the gear is free a few months later.
So the servers are way too stressed. Logging in takes ENTIRELY too long, I'm hitting massive lag spikes now, my ping is ranging from 200 all the way up to 4K.
That wouldn't normally bother me in an open beta, but the fact this game is already retail in multiple Asian countries and the game isn't far off from release, and is made by a company that is well versed in online games.... they should do a better job.
But alas, it's a free open beta. This is what launch week is going to be like, though. :\
I guess I expected less, or no, problems considering NCSoft has made many games and this game is retail. Hell, AoC launched perfectly smooth. No login issues, no major lag, no real major technical problems.

Eh, I was just trying to help. Sorry. And yes, I know it's pretty bad, but I do like a few instances. Dead Mines is one that I like.
But anyway; back to Aion. I'll be trying out my character tomorrow so I can see what the gameplay is like and get my first impressions. I'll write a blog post about it on my site.
Wow, this thread has become active lol.
The lag today and last night was terrible for me. NCSoft did some maintenance stuff today and it's been okay so far. They got some routing issue in two (or three) of their North American providers. Let's hope it's for good.
My char name is Kalissa (Chanter) on Israphel. Currently level 17. We're still not sure if we're sticking with Elyos by launch. I also like Asmodians ,>_<
This just in...WoW sucked back when June 2005 hit.
Aion will pretty much be a WoW replica with some tweaks and added things that WoW doesn't have. Interface is practically the same. Most of the game is taken from WoW, but I mean, what MMO hasn't taken anything from other MMOs...like what Blizzard did lol.
I actually don't mind its WoW-likeness. WoW (or whatever MMO WoW copied from..some say Lineage2 but whatever) has pretty much set the standard interface in MMOs. Someone has to start it somewhere.
Maybe some people learned from Tabula Rasa that revolutionizing something may not be the best idea. I think what Aion is trying to do is get the best things out of MMOs that have been proven successful, add some new stuff of their own (ie wings) and integrate it in the game. We'll see how that pans out for them I guess.
I'm a little (lot) dissapointed in the clunkiness of the controls of the game.
The character animations seem really.... blocky and mannequin like. Flying is not very easy to control because I seem to like to randomly hit the ground and stay there. It'd be nice if I could have spacebar be my "go up" button as well as jump when I"m not flying, and then just control the camera angle with the mouse like I do in WoW.
Granted I already can control the camera angle with the mouse, it's just the taking off part that gets a bit frustrating, because I like to stick to the ground for some reason.
There's considerable lag time between attacks (not server lag, just actual client lag) and various bugs where I'll stand there with my thumb up my ass not AAing.
Age of Conan suffered from the same thing. Poor camera controls, uninteresting chracter movements, and honestly the characters are way too Gackt for me. But it is an Asian MMO. :\
I mean, clone WoW. Clone it to death. Just make the core of the game suck less. WoW's controls, camera control, animations are all a lot more interesting than what any MMO over the past 5 years has been able to produce.

I heard about Aion, and I saw some Trailers and other things about it, and I gotta say, it looks like a Great game to me. I will probly get it eventually, but not right now. Anyway, I hope that everyone is enjoying it. I know that I will once I get my Hands on it. Anyway, Happy Posting guys
I know and it's very disappointing. The ONLY positive things WoW still has for it is it's ease of play and control, fluidity of combat and ability use, customizable and attractive UI modifications, and colorful and fantasyish graphics. Too many MMOs go for realism now, and make puppet-looking characters. Granted AoC and Aion both have absolutely gorgeous scenery.
The core of WoW, however, is what continues to make me quit playing the game. I miss pre BC WoW, or even start of BC WoW. Before all these dailies came in and made epic flying mounts less of an achievement, before free epics started getting handed out for running extremely easy content. When PvP was a lot more fun because I could do it at my leisure, not either half-ass it with battlegrounds or get entirely too hardcore and worry way too much about what class is OP and min/maxing the shit out of every situation in arenas. Arenas are too stressful, and <> fun to me.
Hell even leveling has gotten entirely too easy. Granted I LOVED the idea of heirlooms at first, I now despise them. I hate the fact that 1-60 used to take the average person 22+ days played, maybe 18ish or so on your 2nd toon. Now I can bust out 1-80 in < 9, while leveling professions to 450 in the process.
</WoW Rant>
I'm still on the fence about whether or not I'm going retail with Aion. I'm hoping if I play it enough, it'll grow on me to the point where it's shortcomings with fluidity and control don't bother me. I adjusted to AoC, I just quit that because there was no effing content in the game.
I do think the new Star Wars MMO or the next online FF will be my full-on WoW replacement, especially since FFIV is supposed to lower the role of grouping in order to level.
Thats the problem with WoW, they made it too easy. My old guild have destroyed all new content put in front of them with ease.
I believe Aion has the potential, the hardcore players crave a challenge and Wotlk has yet to give any real challenge.
AoC and warhammer could have done alot better if they ya know, finished the ****in game before releasing it :/
Aion has been out for a good while now in Asia so were gonna get a finished polished game with plenty of content, which is very dangerous for wow, the fact that they are rushing out a new expansion is evident enough.
Ya see Aion will steal a great majority of wow players and alls it will have to do after that is keep content streaming at a consistent level, thats why aoc and war failed, people got to a certain point in the game and realised before they even got max level they were going to be bored and went back to wow forever.
And che, wows combat is the same as any MMO o_O and its far from balanced/amazing Take the "Vanish" skill for example, broke for years and confirmed so by the dev team themselves
I never said it was perfect. I only stated that it is the most fluid, which it is. Other than connection lag, when you hit a button it does it immediately. That's why you can use Vanish to negate spells. Every other MMO I've tried was too clunky. Warhammer feels like a free online game when you play it.
WoW is a pretty Good Game, and I have an Active Account right now. I wouldn't Give up on WoW Just because Aion might look a little better, but it can never truly replace WoW. I have a lvl 42 Male Hume Paladin, and he Kicks Ass. I would like to try Aion though. It looks Awesome, but like I said, it can never Replace WoW. I've made tons of Friends in the World of Warcraft, and that is a really good Reason to play it.
Your right, at the moment its probably the best MMO, but tbh since its release there hasn't been any decent/finished MMO's released to apply an instant competitive level of entertainment.
EQ2 (mainly pve focus, atleast when i played there was fook all pve)
eve (this is the only thing that can compete pvp wise, but your a ship, not appealing to me anyway)
Age of conan (unfinished game, no high level content for ages after release)
Warhammer (Whats there to say? EA's name on it, instant fail. They made the dev team cut out major cities to push an early release for the quick buck, bad greedy idea as always from EA)
And then theres Aion, its already out a good while in Asia, its got the content to keep you going, pvp, cool character creation, you can fly and its something new and fresh and different, from what ive read anyway. So id say Aion is the biggest wow threat yet and could very well do it, its got a couple of mil subscribers already.
I myself may give it a try, i also have my eye on champions online. But im gonna drop everything for SWTOR when its released
oh and,
That doesn't happen, it used to when it did what it was supposed to. but you just get hit and fall out of stealth and waste a cd and most likely die. Heck it even breaks when nothings hiting you, ive fell out of vanish just walking alongThat's why you can use Vanish to negate spells.
