From what I have reed so far their is not a specific release date (I could be wrong), but supposedly it will come out sometime this year. I'm guessing it will be released sometime in the summer, or fall.

Only official announcement says 2010.
Since people can still apply for closed beta tests, I assume it'll indeed be summer or fall, since once those tests start there will probably be multiple tests, and bug fixing between it, and eventually ending with an open beta test. So I'd say it'll be a couple of months, at least.
hope no more "5 years " x__x and hope it's gonna be a freee to try for some quite time D:
FF XI had a free trial, so I assume XIV will have it too.
Thanks everyone! I was hoping it would be sometime this year I just wasn't too sure. I just can't seem to wait for it to finally come out, it's like I'm a kid waiting for christmas or his birthday to come.

Don't rely on that. Sites like GameStop and many others get this question a lot too and they just pick a date, often no more than a random guess. If there's no official announcement made on the official Square Enix site for Final Fantasy XIV, it's unknown. So just keep an eye on it there
haha. Only reason Gamestop does that is to try and get people to preorder the game there instead of somewhere else. That way the employees can keep their jobs.

i work at gamestop and the dates you see in the folder are just suggested release dates. we dont get an actuall answer just a time line of when it could come out. now if it says "SD" (street date) next to it then that is the actual date its expected to release. Ive been told that there is no actual date yet but to expect it by fall this year, now that could change if the betas are completely bugged out but i doubt they are. but the 12/31/2010 is just a date that was thrown out there one so you pre order and two because they know its comin out this year they just didnt get an actual date so they play it safe by saying the last day of the year.
God I need to know this as well so I can hide in time before it's release. My boyfriend and his brother is trying to convince me to play it with them, and I just KNOW that I'm not cut out for MMO's, especially a Final Fantasy one.
