Thanks System Bug - Unable to Thank Users After a Certain Date

This may seem like nitpicking, but it's an issue that may need to be addressed. I stumbled across a post about 10 minutes ago from the 22nd of December 2008 that I hadn't seen before, and I thought was good. So I wanted to Thank them. Only, there was no icon to press so I could thank them. I changed browsers three times, and the same thing. I checked around, and it seems that every post before the 29th of December 2009 was missing the button to Thank people.

Is there a time period for which you can Thank a post? Or is it some bug? I'm just wondering, because if you go away for a week or two, and can't Thank someone, it might be a problem. I like the Thanks system, and I think it's a shame if you can't give Thanks on a post if you've been away for a while or just haven't noticed it.

Anyway. Just thought I'd bring up the issue.

It's a time period, because that was one of the 'abusive' things of the past in the old rep system, so Merlin put in a certain time for posts to be repped. I mean, the 29th is a LONG time ago... a week and a half ago.

Which is pretty reasonable if you ask me.

The way I see it, is that Thanks doesn't really do anything but tell a user a post they made was good or bad, - there is no bar saying how many thanks you have recieved like the Rep system. So I don't understand how that can be abused unless someone is using it to flame people in secret. Not that it would be a secret, but... you get the drift I hope?

I agree with Silver - make it at least a month on the time limit. It is kind of a large forum, and if you are an inactive user it takes longer to read all the newish posts.

What if you're gone a week or two and come back seeing a post you would like to thank?
A week and a half really isn't that long a deal of time, especially when some sections have threads over a week and a half showing on the first page.

I'd think that time window should be extended a tad personally. Maybe somewhere between a fortnight and a month? I don't know, use your imagination! I'd just sleep much better knowing that it was possible to thank someone after a small holiday period had passed or I'd just been away from the internet for two weeks. Yes, I know that'll likely never happen for me around now, but hey, some people have enough of a life they're gone for longer periods at a time. Am I right?
