Shoutbox?

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a shoutbox? I used to run a forum (vBulletin 3.8.4) and we were using the vBInferno Shoutbox (I think that was the name, hard to remember, almost a year ago, although I know it said Inferno)
Its a simple to install shoutbox, it allows mod/admin commands and it'd be a great addition to the forum. Its a way to communicate with other members without PM, or spamming up a thread. Considering that this is a close-knit community I think it would be a good idea.

This was already talked about. I made the thread myself. We have considered it, and it was shot down.

You can assign a Shoutbox Moderator quite easily, someone whos active and frequently uses it. Im pretty sure you can put censors, meaning: No links, no swearing, etc. But in the end, its all up the administrative team. I personally think it'd be a good idea ;/

Basically it came down to the fact that even with staff they are still to hard to moderate. Also with the constant flow of messages being put across a spambox shoutbox it eats away at band width causing the main system to lag.

Also we have a VM system in place which can act as a messenger system that is more organized then a SB which also gives the user an option to actually report abuse to the system and/or rule violations.

That is if I remember everything correctly. There was more but those were the three main reasons it was shot down.

I see, this may sound a bit "nooby" but, what exactly is a VM?

I'm pretty sure its Visitor Messages. If you go to someone's profile, you can leave a message for them and then they can leave one back for you. I'm just so used to VM standing for Voice Mail that I thought they had some sort of weird phone answering machine type thing.

See? This is what happens when I browse forums before finishing a cup of coffee. Not pretty!

Yes this is exactly what I was referring to. The visitor message system has been modified for larger text limitations then most other forums. Meaning you can write alot more then what other forums usually provide.

This also helps to keep conversations organized and comments are less likely to be missed. Also any time you get a new VM the forum is set up to notify you directly.

If you use this system just make sure to use the view conversation button before responding.
