    PS3/360 Version Differences

Figured I'd make a thread noting any differences between versions.
I'll note any differences I really notice and if anyone wants me to look at anything in particular, post away.

So far I've tested both games on one setup only, a 32" 1920x1080 resolution LCD television with a 5.1 audio system using HDMI for both consoles. It was conveniant as I could switch between the consoles at the press of one button (effectively changing source from HDMI1 to HDMI2).

My experiences so far are thus:

    - Both play quite well and look very good.
    - PS3 version as expected is at a higher resolution and it's most noticable during cinematics.
    - 360 gets a few 'artifacts' during cinematics, reminiscent of some PC games I played during the turn of the century utilising bink video (or in PSX era FF games).
    - 360 has a more stable framerate, PS3 is still very good, but I noticed the occasional stutter, especially after I switched back from the 360 version, I expect this is a side effect from making the port lower res.
    - Sound isn't distinguishable by my ears using my setup. I would expect the PS3 version to be clearer so I'm guessing I might need a higher end speaker system to test that.
    - The controls really do seem geared towards the PS3 controller, though are still comfortable using a 360 controller. I imagine that's another side effect of the 360 version being a port.

I haven't yet encountered any different content, though I'm only just at that temple with the crystalised fire (took me roughly five hours to get there on both consoles while comparing things, so I'd estimate roughly 2-3 hours in).

I think you need a more constructive way to spend your money.

I might be insane, but I'm pretty sure I've heard this about several other games as well, Bayonetta comes to mind. I wonder why this is. I mean, isn't the PS3 is supposed to be the powerhouse system of the three?
Let's go into the "archives" in "Washington D.C." and find out how people "masturbated" in the "roaring 20's."

I'll be more constructive when and if my cashflow is disrupted. =D
A lot of the time what you mentioned seems to be down to 360 games being ported to PS3 the majority of the time, but as this was a 360 port of the PS3 version I'd make an educated guess that the lower resolution played a big part.

I noticed a jumpy framerate for the very first CG, but there has been zero since. (PS3)

    Re: PS3/360 Version Differences

I have noticed that if you install all of your discs on the 360 version, it does gain (slightly) faster load times than its PS3 counterpart. Of course, that means you'll have to sacrifice nearly 18GB of space on your hard drive for marginally improved loading... personally, I can stand to wait the extra quarter of a second...

...but my roommate got the FFXIII bundle with the 250GB hard drive, so why not?

Final Fantasy XIII 360/PS3 Comparison Split-Screen Video in High Definition ? G4tv.com

If you are wanting a graphics test.

As for the stutter I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I play on a 37" HDTV 1080p Vizio Playstation 3 and I have not once noticed any slow down time or stutter in the game at all, no skips or anything.

As for the powerhouse it's better in everything on all the systems except for one small thing (This is in terms of hardware inside the system) The processor or CPU is not as good as Xbox 360's, its only slightly better than the Playstation 3's but its not to much of a worry, it is also the reason why Xbox 360 seems to have a better shaded look, it's the only thing helping out that system in terms of graphics and frame rate, load time, stutters or lags.

Thank you Rnin! Credit is given to you for the Sig

Note that I was the only person who mentioned a stutter, and I mentioned that the PS3 version was still very good there. I may not have noticed it at all had I not switched directly between the two versions at points.

My next finding is that the 360 version may be at a lower resolution than 720p. I can hear some of you thinking 'what is this i dont even' already, but here's the deal. I tested both versions on my friend's TV this morning (28" TV at 720 native resolution) and the TV won't do 1080 yet the PS3 version is still noticably sharper looking than the 360 version. Once again, both were through HDMI, both were using seperate HDMI ports for easy switching (though not as easy as on my TV as with his you have to scroll through every source until you arrive back at HDMI 1 and HDMI 2). Wouldn't be surprised if it's 576p like Halo 3 was, but no way of confirming this as I couldn't find any official sources confirming or denying.

Gotten up to the beginning of Sunleth Waterscape chapter on both versions and still haven't found any differences in game content (not that I'm expecting any, but who knows, I could be surprised).

I have had a chance to compare the 2 yet. My friend has it for ps3 and I have it for 360. Eventually we plan to hook em both up in my living room and compare.

Sitting here waiting for Rocky, and Che to notice me!!

Yeah i noticed that, i was watching my friend play and noticed that in game cutscenes were a little jumpy, you can really tell when its a close up of a person's face and the hair and face is flickering a little

(Not sure if stutter and flickering is same thing)

That's where I tended to notice it most of the time too.

@ Josh_R, awesome, post your findings. The more we get from more people testing both, the more things can be shown to be accurate/innaccurate.

(Off topic: If someone has both and a PS3 composite cable, I'd be interested in hearing about an incident I've heard about where both versions got an odd flickering line near the top of the screen. I tried to emulate it via a 360 and got nothing abnormal and for PS3 I only have the standard connector it came with and a HDMI cable. I'm guessing it's likely a one off (possibly the guy's TV) but I'd be interested if someone had played with a composite cable on either version and had had that problem. Cheers peoples.)

    Re: PS3/360 Version Differences

Double post, but for good reason!
I had someone send me some info on dropped content from the 360 version, and then had a few people confirm.

Though I missed it myself, there's at least one instance of a shot in a cutscene being removed in the 360 version. The specific shot noticed was one of Lightning jumping off a bridge, and the actual shot missing is a very brief camera shot of the soles of her feet. Nothing major, but it is a version difference and could mean there are other similar instances elsewhere which I'll be keeping an eye out for.

    a let down ??

hmm i dont see how having 1 disk is a let down at all.

the reason its 1 disk for PS3 is because its a Blu-Ray disc that holds up to 10 times the info and 10 times the definition then a regular DVD, which a xbox 360 uses.
im sure you know this owning a PS3. but unless your saying you wanted a longer game then i dont know what the big deal is LOL

Playing the 360 version on a 56" DLP HDTV w/ the 360 Elite connected via HDMI

I've had 2-3 freezes where the game continues loading but it's not going anywhere, and I've had to go back to the dashboard and start over (Thank god for save points every 10 minutes)

The load times, in general, are extremely fast compared to other games of this magnitude (Mass Effect 1/2 and Lost Odyssey come to mind)

I was just on about the game in general, I like it dont get me wrong but I dunno I just feel kinda let down by it a little bit. Might be because it got hyped up too much and they got Leona Lewis.........snow is pretty ace though even though hes just Seifer with Zells fighting style

A better frame rate? Hon, I can't get this damn ol' controller to hold the action steady in the game to save my life.. Now I don't have the PS3, it costs too much, so opted for the 360 and now I wish I'd saved for a little longer and purchased the PS3..
All I know is in this game the camera is all over the place, I can't sneak up on anything unless they are standing perfectly still because the controller is so itchy it makes my leader jump all over the place trying to sneak behind someone.. I would never recommend the 360 to anyone just on playing this one game alone..

If you don't like it on 360, there's a good chance you won't like it on PS3 neither.
They both play quite similarly in the end and I've just been nitpicking out of curiousity, first mainstream FF released on two consoles at once and all, y'know?

So the real problem is in the game itself then? I haven't played any of my FF games for awhile but I sure don't recall any of them being so hard to bring the camera back on point like this one requires.. I was assuming it was the 360 but since you say the PS3 is the same, I guess someone at Square dropped the ball on it.. Well, heck, they spent so much time and money making the game a bitch to level up and upgrade weapons that I guess they didn't have time to make the camera work comfortably for us players..
