i am currently working on a storyline that i plan to send to square enix with character design specs fora new Final Fantasy game. I have shared this with only 2 other people and they think it is a good idea. I would like some feed back along with any other ideas
Just a hint of advice: Don't.
If you've got a good story on your hands, hook up with someone with some programming skills as well as someone good with either sprites or 3D modeling and make it yourself. Indie game-making is more affordable than it's ever been.
On the off chance that Square actually took heed of your idea, they sure as hell wouldn't credit you. It's happened before and it will happen again.
yeah i know they won't credit me. i'll see what i can do, but if it ends up not working, i'll send it in to them
Yeah I have to agree that they will not credit you. if anything they like to keep it in the family, much like hillbillies.
Square Enix wouldn't even bother looking at anything you were to send them, it would be like sending a song you wrote to Paul McCartney, ...pointless.
Keep on writing and if its meant to happen, it will. You don't need SE to fulfill your dreams, as Musashiden said, keep it yourself and go for it.

Thank you too everyone. I didn't start the thread but I am doing something similar and needed that advice too, I just didn't know who to ask. I'm writing a brand new FF as well as some sequels. I thought maybe if I copywrited it both where I'm at and in Japan they couldn't steal it. Am I wrong in thinking this?

If you want you could put all written material and data discs in an envelope and mail it to yourself and don't open it, it acts as proof that its yours and was conceived before the date on the envelope. composers/writers do this a lot at early stages of working on something as a form of security.
You would have to come up with a different name. Attempting to copyright anything related to Final Fantasy without direct permission from Square would get you laughed out of the building. As I said to the other guy, personalize it, and make it yourself. Stay away from the Final Fantasy name. @Musashiden, thank you too. I hadn't thought of that either. I thought for some reason that I could copywrite the work like an opinion so SE couldn't take the idea.

Wow.... I just changed my total decision and placement in my mind of placing in a story line into Square. Thank you everyone one because i was planning to do the same thing as Innovation96

Thank you everyone, I've changed the direction I am taking my FF. I'm changing the things that make it FF, making it my own, and turning it into a novel. I'm going to hold on to my sequels for the day someone worthy might put them to good use. Square isn't the only group with access to FF material.

Yes, they are. That's why they have a copyright.
I don't understand all this. Hundreds of people probably write in with plot ideas to SquareEnix every week. They don't read any of them. Not because they're bad, but because they already have staff who are paid to write plots and create characters.
If you're so creative, use your own characters, settings, IDEAS and write your own stories. Turn them into a novel if you must. If you think that you can do better than SE, prove it.
Write fan-fiction to your heart's content. But leave it at that. Sending in an amateur story about Final Fantasy VII-2 is not going to achieve anything. Hell will freeze over before a random teenager sends a workable script for a video game to a multinational video game congolmerate. Do not even try to make money from it.
