News Post Final Fantasy Agito Returns

For those that remember, Final Fantasy Type-0 was originally announced as Final Fantasy XIII Agito before it eventually received a name change and released. However, it seems that the Agito name is not dead and still connect to Type-0. Square Enix announced today that there is a new Final Fantasy coming to the iOS and android platforms.

FF Agito will be a free-to-play game with microtransactions. The director of Type-0 will be back to direct Agito. The main character will be a new character not seen in Type-0 that the player will be able to change and customize to some degree. They will be a cadet at the same place that Type-0 took place in and will interact with characters from the previous game.

The play will function like many free-to-play types where there are a limited number of actions to take before needing to waiting. Likely money can speed it along. But the first part of the game is said to be focused on the world, specifically the history. The player will be given choices to make throughout the game that will affect the story. After the first the part finishes the choices the player made will be seen in how the story plays out. After completing the game, it will start over allowing players to change things and see the other routes.

There will also be a job system used in the game, likely letting players play their favorite jobs from the FF series.

I scanned through the article, but I didn't see if there was any indication that it's for a world wide release in the winter. Any word?

Unless it is a major title, they tend not to get any sort of announcements beyond Japan until later. In the case of Square Enix, it is going to be reliant on Type-0 being released very likely. Right not Type-0 is in a limbo state that many are still hopeful, but assume it's never coming out. However, there is a new head of third party relations over at Sony, he worked out Borderlands 2 for Vita, and he put out the word to let him know what games people want on the Vita. Type-0 came up in mention during his last interview, so it is likely one of the top wanted games, especially for outside Japan. So there is still a chance it could happen.

    That's a long winded maybe

I know I'd be much happier if they'd keep games that they have no plans on localizing out of the world wide media. Or at least come right out and say (Japan Exclusive). :\

Why yes, yes it is. ^^

Square tends to be a roll of the dice at times. You can usually do a good job judging what they will and won't bring over. But then things like Type-0, core game in the franchise gets missed, while they drop every KH game on us. Agito is a pretty strong no, I'd say in general, even if Type-0 comes over. However, they are expanding more into mobile and there's more of an install base on mobile. So they might see it worth a shot. Still, it's probably more on the no side of maybe than the yes.
