KH is the Kingdom Hearts team. They are the ones that have been developing the game for the last 7 years. Though the reason the game hasn't come out sooner is that they've been pillaging members to finish up other games. Plus I think Versus went back to the drawing board a little, at least engine side from the way that they were talking. So they probably set them back.

Correct, I don't have time to find a link, but they said they were throwing the Lumia? Lighting Engine into the game.

My guess was that it was going to be a PS4 launch title.

It's been that long because their team members kept getting pulled off to finish other titles like FFXIII. But if it is anything like FFXIII, the planning and development was probably a mess for a while. FFXIII was built off the train CG sequence they made. They didn't know how it fit into the story or what they were doing when they made that sequence. I suspect Versus fell into the same thing, but it has since been coming together.

The Luminous Engine is what you're thinking of Mystyrion, which is an entire engine rather than just a lighting one. The newest FF, the next gen one, will be built in it. And I think most of their studios will have access to it.
