Best Lead Character?

Who do you think was the best Main character of the group below? (spoilers)


Cecil (FFIV) - Knight destined to become a Paladin and face an ancient and newly awakened nemesis of earth

Terra (FFVI) - Half human/ Half Esper mage whose talents helped spark a global war waged by a totalitarian empire

Tidus (FFX) - A living dream following his fathers plan to destroy a millia old monster that wreaks havok in the real world

Cloud (FFVII) - Super soldier produced by a global corporation, who joins a resistance to fight both that company and a even more super powered enemy

Zidane (FFIX) - Fun loving thief who discovers he's brothers with his enemy from a parallel world, who plans on taking over Zidane's world

Squall (FFVIII) - A warrior targeted by a sorceress from the future who is secrectly his lover in the present, and who uses a familiar summon attack

Maybe its because he was near the beginning. All the rest of the characters had their thing...fighting to save the world...never expecting to have to. Whether they fought good friends, lovers, family....well Cecil had to do it first (well...not the fight a lover part). But its because Cecil went a long way and did it first.

The guy was betrayed by his best friend.....twice. Had to save his true love...twice. Had to fly to the moon.....twice (at least). He survived a ship wreck, traveling all the way to the land of summoned monsters, and even had to face his evil self.

Cecil was cool like that.

Agreed, Cecil was pretty solid. He just had this quality of being a "legendary" hero, sort of like Link perhaps, where it's what he was born to do. None of the others really have that type of essence.

Sorry to veer this thread off-topic for a mo', but your talking about the Rinoa=Ultimecia theory, yes? I don't think that this should have been included in your description of Squall, since it is merely a theory and not specifically stated in the game of FF VIII. That's just what I think though, and this is your thread so do as you wish.

Back on topic.

I think that Cecil makes the best main character/lead character out of all the ones that you have listed. I haven't gotten very far in FF IV yet, but I like what I see so far. Also, he's my best fighter in Dissidia right now.

@ dodie16 - you have a slight point with the Rinoa thing, but I'm not so sure it's really even a theory. (Major Spoilers) When Ultimacia pulls out the GF that is named for and looks just like Squall's necklace, which they even took the time to let you name yourself, I think that pretty much confirmed that Rinoa is Ultimacia. There's really no other reason that they would have drawn so much attention to your necklace and then had the main enemy use it as a GF. I suppose you're right in the fact that it's not "official" but I think that's really the intrique of the game. You had to infer that that was what was really going on. You wound up fighting Rinoa, and a summoned version of Squall. It makes for a better story too, and perhaps the best twist of any of the games. Do you agree?

Mine was Cloud until Advent Children made him emo... but hmm..... Squall is pretty cool.
I like Squall because his character fits my personality. He's always quiet about his thoughts and usually gives everyone "the cold shoulder". So, I choose Squall

It may be really superficial, but I liked Squall because he had dark hair, and then...<enter personal bias here> he didn't look like Meg Ryan. Squall wasn't effeminate looking...instead he was a guy's guy. Zindane, Titus, Vaan, and even to some extent Cloud were all kinda...girly looking.

Granted...In FFXII the main character (in my opinion anyways) is Ashe. *shrug* At least story wise....even if most of the time (for me), its not her running around leading the squad.

esspecially with Zidane, I'm with you on the girly thing. I don't know that I'd call Tidus girly, but I don't know if I'd hang out with a guy that happy. He should be an annoying late night TV motivational speaker. I can't fault Cloud. That guy was pretty bad ass. His hair is a little wild, but I don't know, I thought it was rockin when I first saw it. But yeah Squall was the manly one. Of course Cecil is pretty manly. So was Locke. What about Locke?

Tidus is best for me.. I mean, he's totaLLy normaL.. he's not afraid to show his emotion very much, he's not that very over-confident guy (sometimes).. he's funny.. and.. very brave.. and does know how to take care of his friends.. and of course.. I Love his story the most!

ALso.. I know he doesn't got the most cooLest sword (weapon).. but aLL in aLL, I Like him.. :-)

Tidus was a little giddy for me. Squall I could chill with, Cecil I would at least respect, but I wouldn't want to hang with Tidus. He's just a little whiney, and when he's not whiney, he's abnoxiously happy. Now I do like his story. Towards the end when he became more focused on the mission he was great.

Definitely Zidane, the greatest thief ever. I really like him mainly because of his personality and it was good to see a character that is funny unlike those two emo bastards Squall and Cloud. Even tho he's just a small thief he's brave, strong, smart and the most important thing he's a chick magnet.

Locke was a great character. I've never been one for having thiefs on my team, as I they are just too...hybrid for me. Their thief command doesn't do any damage, and often doesn't contribute anything of significance. I know...that's a bias that I'm working on. But for me, Locke was one of the best characters in that game. His back story was fantastic, and how he dealt with life and then post-destruction, was very good.

Hm, I'd have to say Bartz (FFV) ^^
He didn't just like his friends, he really had an objective when he joined the group. He was the leader. The real leader. Not only a person trying to find himself, but someone who said where to go and what to do. At least I had the feeling that he did quite often.
As well I liked Zidane. But he was a little brat. XD" Okay, at least he looked like one. I didn't like the chibi design at all. Especially when he flirted with Garnet. It seemed so wrong that a kid flirted with another kid. xD"

And of course Cecil, for the reasons that were mentioned by you all. x3" Cecil was really really a great character and leader. ^^

Yeah Locke was cool. I was down with him. In fact he had the best personality. No offense Xanatos, but if I had an issue with Tidus' giddyness, then Zidane's flamboyance is definately out. But Locke was all man. He was cool.

And what was most cool about him, was that I don't even think he was the 5th most important character in that game. Edgar, Terra, Sabin & Cyan were all vastly more involved with the Empire than Locke was. Celes was too. In fact you could even make a case that Relm & Strago were more closely tied to the overal story. That makes Locke a bit of an interesting lead.

Non taken, I'm not easily offended. I have just stated my opinion (that's the point of this thread, is it?) and I don't really care that you disagree with me. Don't really understand what flamboyance has to do with Zidane's leadership, but whatever. There is one thing that bugs me, you didn't mention Locke as lead character in this thread and yet you dare to compare him with Tidus and Zidane. So decide is Terra the lead character or Locke, or maybe both?

No, Locke is definately not the lead character of VI, in my opinion. It's Terra, although with VI it's a bit of a debate, but I've gone with Terra and will stick with that. And I can't compare her with Zindane quite honestly. He's probably the stronger lead, even though Terra is a better character in my opinion. In fact half the cast of VI are better characters than Zindane I think, but in regards to Zindane's leadership, I mean I guess, but I'd rather be in battle with a Squall or Cloud any day over a prankster with a haircut that makes him look like Rachel Ray. :-) You know what though, he was ok. It just kind of felt like he was leading a group of misfits all along instead of destined warriors as in other games. I guess IX and Zidane in general felt like playing The Goonies and then trying to compare their battle skills to the cast of The Lord of The Rings. Zindane was a goonie. Locke, Terra, Squall, Cecil, were Lord of the Rings quality.

It seem that I must repeat the same question once again. If you don't see Locke as leader character why did you compared him with Zidane and Tidus? Why do you all of a sudden insult Zidane as lead character, and to be honest not just Zidane? I said to you once and I will say it again if you don't like him keep it to your self, I really don't care what you think. Everyone has mentioned theirs favorite lead character for various reasons and that's what you asked for, you should respect that. Really? I liked Tidus. I didn't find him annoying, he was funny in his own dorkey way. I liked Zidaine because he was entertaining throughout the whole game and stuck with his personality and sense of humor. I think he had one of the best peronalities I've seen in a game. Who doesn't like Cloud..,Squall was whatever..compared to Zell,who was the shiit. bamf low key
