In my opinion this is one of the best shows in the USA, I have seen all 4 season and have been 1 of the few shows I have felt the desire to buy. Family guy is a cartoon show which introduces the Peter along with his family in typical yet random situations. The reason I decided to write this was because unlike a lot of popular animated American shows this was designed keeping in mind that they would have a DVD release, and because of this Season 4 pushed some of the lines that would be deemed taboo for most show. I am aware the episodes have been around for a while but I feel it is worthy of a review for anybody who is interested in seeing them.
Animation ~ 4/5
There is not much I can really say, the animation is not your typical Japanese animation but it is still watch able. The animation runs together quite nicely and flows in. The Character models are somewhat realistic with what I guess you could call a "comical edge" added to it.
Sound ~ 4.5/5
Obviously there is not much new music on here or anything besides the same theme song which is still pretty catching. As for the voices most of them fit quite nicely and the great thing about this DVD is that in the special features you get to see the people actually say there lines. Seth MacLaren does a lot of the voices including Peter and Brian, which he has done a good job at he has managed to make his voice suit the character they are portraying quite nicely.
Characters ~ 5/5
If you have seen the older episodes then you basically now each of the Characters abilities, on this one the further expand on all of the characters. A good example of this is the way the continued to make Meg look like a loner that is not quite part of the family and there are some classic moments. All the characters have their own stupid yet amusing personalities and add their own part to the series.
Story ~ 4.5/5
The thing with Family Guy is that though they have stories they don’t really go anywhere our lead to much except for the occasional episode. BUT there is a story in there like any show dealing with random events with even more parts that don’t really fit but they’re funny anyway. Parts such as the Random chicken event which I have no idea what it’s all about but its still amusing has returned and many other random parts. Oh and of course you still get the classic “Like the time I…” scenes.
Enjoyment/Value ~ 5/5
Family Guy is one of the few Classics that hopefully will be around for quite a long time, the type of show you can just chuck on after a hard days work and grab a cold one, kick up your feet and really enjoy. Even if you have seen some of the Episodes I still think if you have the money then its worth buying. I have a growing collection of DVD’s I have only watched once or twice but no doubt this will be one of my first choices when I decide to watch one of them.
Overall Family Guy is the only American show that I have gone out to buy the DVDs for, the money I paid for this was defiantly worth it and I highly recommend all those interested in buying it.
((Mods – I apologize if I have placed this in the wrong section as I felt this was the most appropriate place))
