I always found the Lightning base magics to be some of my favorites. Also if you look at Cronotrigger style magic, shadow magic was amazing.

Really it depends on the role I want to play and what game but the two aboves have always been some of my favorites.

Also, why is this in gaming media?

I like the high level spells that Lulu in FFX uses because seeing the doll do a little dance when she casts makes me smile. :3

I like Blue Magic. The variaty in magic helps with any encounter in any of the games that give you Blue Magic. I like it better then Black or White.

Select spells in Blue Magic? Mighty Guard, Auto Life, the usuals.

I like the ALL Fire based magic.I also like Ultima,Thundaga,and Osmose.

I actually liked white spells more.

Whenever I played games such as Final Fantasy Tactics, or Final Fantasy Crystal chronicles, I would play alongside a friend. (In Tactics five of us controlled our individual characters, and would pass the controller), and I always was the Prist/white Mage. I love Cure/Cura/Curaga/Cure/Cure2/Cure3, and I really enjoy Life. I enjoy being the guy to help my teammates out haha.

always been a huge fan of Flare. depending on how it is styled. IX ultima design was pretty cool. never understood VII ultima. but quite a bit of a fire based attacks. but then again i am a fan of the Red Mage so i would have to say red magic as i would have access to healing and damage.

secondary would be else Magic Knights Enchantments to the weapon so Flare Blade or Ultima Blade or Silence Blade.... yeah totally awesome.

Lately ive been getting into holy and white magic, i think that it's quite neat :3

I like big unnescessarily complicated magic. Like Supernova. Long complicated scene of solar sytem annihalation for the sake of doing negligible gravity based damage.... in addition to for some reason repairing the solar system so you can use the spell again later.

When it comes to badass mages, Valkyrie Profile's Lezard Valeth wrote the book. He knows spells supposedly only known by the highest ranking Gods in Asgard, spells of sufficient strength to overpower said Gods, steal their souls, and transcend humanity, transcend even the Gods, and create his own dimension all for the sake of getting freaky with a Valkyrie. Long story short, Lezard = BAMF.

My favorite magic would be Blue Magic. I love it.

I like in FFT Orlandu's Holy Swordsman magic skills. Gotta love T.G. Cid

I liked the Magic Sword in FFIX.
Blue magic is also really interesting to have but i mostly enjoyed it in VII,VIII and IX.
Although Aero was a cool blue magic, which didnt continue into the ps1 games.

I've always enjoyed the wrath that is Ultima magick. A tactical God Nuke to obliterate all who dare to attack your mages. BUWAHAHAHAHA!

I also like any kind of magick going near bolt 3. I like how FFII had the spells that lvled up until they'd reach points of ridiculousness like Fire XII.

Heh, watching Ex-death own galuf with Flare, Holy, and Meteor is always fun to watch.
(EDIT: Can't belive I didn't mention the Thunder God Cid. What a beast...Sword Saint for the win!)

For me it's a three way tie between green, white and time magic.

I'm a fan of white magic, having the ability to heal abnormal statuses and add extra health onto your total life is very useful in battle and it's better than using potions and other items since it's free. It saves you on a lot of magic. Black magic is great too but it's only really useful against elemental enemies, it can be used on most enemies but I just don't use it unless I really need to.
