    Wheel of time

Who else is excited for the new wheel of time book?

  2. #2
Woah~ I was so excited to see a thread about this book on here... and then basically it's nothing interesting. xD"

I've began reading the series about two years ago. I'm still stuck at book 4 - just because I haven't gotten it yet. xD" I think I still need time to read all the books, but I honestly don't think it'll be as good anymore when I finally reach the end.
Besides, new book? Didn't the author die a year ago or so?

Yes, but his wife along with some other guy is continuing the last book. The wife seems to have the notes/draft or whatever and is allowing this one guy to finish it up.

It's the conclusion book to the series, so it will finally finish.

Actually there was so much content left by Robert Jordan that it was decided that it couldn't possibly be finished in a single volume so we get 3 books now! The new one comes out in less then a week!

Well, it's a single book separated into three volumes. So I wasn't entirely wrong with my wording, but yes, to be more specific; there are 3 volumes of the last book of the series.

    I'll be checking it out.

And it's not just "some other guy", it's Brandon Sanderson. He's writing the books from the notes Jordan left before he passed. Jordan outlined virtually everything and Brandon stayed as close to Jordan's style as he could. From what I've read of reviews he's pretty spot on with a lot of characters; there's only a couple who read differently.

I myself have never read a Wheel of Time novel. I've heard many good things and many bad things about the series. I'll probably give it a shot someday but I have way too many other series to focus on right now.

I do have one of Brandon's books to read, though. His debut novel, Elantris. I've heard good things about his skill as a writer.

    Re: Wheel of time

The Wheel of Time series is something I've always intended to read, but just never got around to it. I get chided about it from some of my friends, as I know characters names etc without realizing it since they use them as their avatars.

    Re: Wheel of time

I have had the latest book since it has been released and have yet to read it. I still have plenty of books to go before I get to that one - maybe 4 books.

It appears that Sanderson is not a bad writer; Elantris, the Mistborn Trilogy, and Warbreaker have been received well so I am pleased that they got someone who has established himself to take over the reins.

I also have Elantris and Warbreaker to read as well; I'll be reading Elantris after I get done with Thief of Time so I'll see how good Mr. Sanderson's debut novel is.

About the Wheel of Time series: the first 6 books I found to be great, books 7 & 8 are good, books 9 & especially 10 are bad, and book 11 is also good. It was a good thing that Jordan finished up a lot of the major side plots in Knife of Dreams because it was getting ridiculous and excruciatingly slow (9 & 10).

    Re: Wheel of time

I think the "fantasy" part of it stopped me from actually reading them when I had the chance... I prefer Historical Fiction more, so end up just getting series like those.

    Re: Wheel of time

As one of the defining Fantasy Series of this Generation, I thought there would be a number of threads on it. Guess not

Would like to revive this thread on the series if I can!

    Some starters could be

    What is your Favorite Character?

Whose point of view is you favorite?

Which Book do you like the most?

Do you like what Sanderson has written so far?

Perhaps Ill add some details about the series in an update when I’m not at work. Maybe I can convince people to pick the books up.

Mac: All right, how about Cat Game?
Foster: Cat Game? What's the record?
Mac: Thorny did six, but I think you can do ten.
    Foster: Ten? Starting right meow?
[They go up to the car.]
    Driver: Sorry about the...
Foster: All right meow. Hand over your license and registration.
[The man gives him his license.]
Foster: Your registration? Hurry up meow.
    Driver: [laughing] Sorry.
Foster: Is there something funny here boy?
    Driver: Oh, no.
Foster: Then why you laughing, Mister... Larry Johnson?
    [Foster stares at him.]
Foster: All right meow, where were we?
Driver: Excuse me, are you saying meow?
    Foster: Am I saying meow?
    Driver: I thought...
Foster: Don't think boy. Meow, do you know how fast you were going?
    [The man laughs.]
Foster: Meow. What is so damn funny?
Driver: I could have sworn you said meow.
Foster: Do I look like a cat to you, boy? Am I jumpin' around all nimbly-bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE?
    [The man is uncontrollably laughing.]
Foster: You stop laughing right meow!
Driver: [Stops and swallows hard.] Yes sir.
Foster: Meow, I'm gonna have to give you a ticket on this one. No buts meow. It's the law.
[Rips off the ticket and hands it to the man.]
Foster: Not so funny meow, is it?
[Foster gets up to leave, but Mac shakes his hands at him, indicating only nine meows.]
    Foster: Meow!

    Re: Wheel of time

I never really get any hits on this, but the 13th of 14 books comes out tomorrow. Anyone else going to read it? The title is Towers of Midnight, and the emphasis looks to be on Mat and Perrin this book. Really excited about Mat and crew going to the tower of genji.

    Re: Wheel of time

Yeah, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. I lent "The Gathering Storm" to my friend who is close to finishing the book. I told them that there is this one moment in the book that is an "Oh Sh*t" moment:
    SPOILER!!:
when Egwene receives Verin's list of Black Ajah members and Darkfriend. Him and I joked that almost everybody in that world is a darkfriend. And Verin played the dark side to gain intel on them. Insane!!! Best spy ever.
I'm waiting for him to get to that point. He's really close, near the end.

    Re: Wheel of time

Yeah I really like the last Book. The quicker pace was so nice after the last 4 books. Everything thing I have read from none spoiler reviews talk about him keeping the pace of the last book. They also talk about how much happens in this one. Hopefully it's just as good as TGS.

    Spoiler:
Yeah, that and Rand destroying the Choden Kal. A lot of people were speculating that the Choden Kal had the power to link people to their past lives and thats how and why Rand was hearing Lews Therin.
