    Dragonlance: The Chronicles Trilogy

Anyone ever read and enjoyed these books! I read them back in middle school. They rank up there with the Lord of the Rings books in my mind. I tried reading some of the spin off books and they just didnt capture me the way this story did.

My favorite character was probably Sturm Brightblade. I was a huge paladin fan when I was younger!

Foster: Cat Game? What's the record?
Mac: Thorny did six, but I think you can do ten.
    Foster: Ten? Starting right meow?
[They go up to the car.]
    Driver: Sorry about the...
Foster: All right meow. Hand over your license and registration.
[The man gives him his license.]
Foster: Your registration? Hurry up meow.
    Driver: [laughing] Sorry.
Foster: Is there something funny here boy?
    Driver: Oh, no.
Foster: Then why you laughing, Mister... Larry Johnson?
    [Foster stares at him.]
Foster: All right meow, where were we?
Driver: Excuse me, are you saying meow?
    Foster: Am I saying meow?
    Driver: I thought...
Foster: Don't think boy. Meow, do you know how fast you were going?
    [The man laughs.]
Foster: Meow. What is so damn funny?
Driver: I could have sworn you said meow.
Foster: Do I look like a cat to you, boy? Am I jumpin' around all nimbly-bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE?
    [The man is uncontrollably laughing.]
Foster: You stop laughing right meow!
Driver: [Stops and swallows hard.] Yes sir.
Foster: Meow, I'm gonna have to give you a ticket on this one. No buts meow. It's the law.
[Rips off the ticket and hands it to the man.]
Foster: Not so funny meow, is it?
[Foster gets up to leave, but Mac shakes his hands at him, indicating only nine meows.]
    Foster: Meow!

back when i was younger i read these book and it helped me get into the Dungeons and dragons series. but mainly i got into the war of the twins series. I think the Dragonlance world is an awesome and epic series. but you have to be commited to it in order to under stand what is happening.

I do like the Chronicles trilogy [Dragonlance] more than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I liked the characters if the first one more. Besides that, which spin-off books did you read? There are a lot of interesting books that really expand Ansalon and Krynn. Even some of the short stories are really great regardless of their length. If Sturm was your favourite character I would suggest reading The Oath and The Measure which is part of the Meetings Sextet that tells the story of how the characters met up with each other; the book is about Sturm's journey and one of my favourite books in the series. I have, if I'm correct in my judgment, over 50 books in the series and I guess I'll name them off just for the hell of it, SPACE!

    Re: Dragonlance: The Chronicles Trilogy

My older brother Marc was a big fan of these books and the spinoffs, and I read a couple of them myself. This was a while back, so I can't recall the titles, but after reading Zarg's MASSIVE list (), the few that stick out to me are Kendermore and Dalamar the Dark, so that may have been the titles that I've read. I have not read the original trilogy, but since I did enjoy the couple of spinoff titles that I did read, perhaps I should give it a shot.

    Re: Dragonlance: The Chronicles Trilogy

I read the frist two books in the twins series. Just never liked them and never really connected with their characters, but my brother loved them and said the books were good. So they were the first books I picked up after I read the Trilogy. I switch to a Drizzit book after the second one(Legacy might have just come out), and never went back.

Just threw this topic out since I found the Trilogy at a book sale for $5 and bought it. So I was gonna read them again, and figured if I got a few snags in this thread we could go over the books as I was reading them again.

Edit: Ohh yeah a few years back I bought a "second generation" book. Ill have to find it when Im not at work, I think it followed the children of the heroes from the dragon war. It was awful and I didn't get very far with it.

    Re: Dragonlance: The Chronicles Trilogy

I remember these books. Chronicles is the trilogy that got me interested in reading. The first book was a bit disorganized, but the other two were very well written; especially Winter Nights. The end of that one always upset me a little bit. Great writing on the part of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

One of my favorite aspects of the Dragonlance series, which is particularly apparent in all volumes written by Weis and Hickman, is the yin-yang effect between good and evil, which plays a strong significance in the conclusion of Chronicles; the less famous fourth installment; Dragons of Summer Flame. In the book, the Knights of Solamnia (light) and the Knights of Takhisis (dark) must coexist and make a stand together or everybody will be destroyed.

    Very good books.

It's not necessarily yin-yang between good and evil, but the notion of perfect balance between all three sides.

    SPOILER!!:
Which is basically the reason why Paladine has to give up his divinity and become a mortal in order to remove Takhisis' godhood, and why a story where Raistlin would have won and absorbed the power of both Takhisis and Paladine would have ended up in the destruction of Krynn. Still, the loss of balance in Neutrality could be equally disastrous.

    SPOILER!!:
Then again, based on the books, Mina who was destined to be a Goddess of Light became a Goddess of Neutrality after the Paladine/Takhisis affair.

    Re: Dragonlance: The Chronicles Trilogy

I read a few of the books, in the wrong order no less. The first DragonLance book I remember reading was Dragons of a Summer Flame. Mostly cause I liked the cover. I also read the first two volumes of the original trilogy, a couple of the prologue books, and The Dragons of Krynn. Oh, and a book of short stories based in the world. Dragons of Chaos might have been the title.

I honestly don't really remember a lot about the books, which is pretty unusual for me. I think I read them at a bad time and just got bored with the series. I don't know how they managed it but yes, books about dragons that I find boring actually exist.

Maybe I'll try them again someday, but I have to admit I've been gravitating to more original, darker fantasy than I used to.
