Final Fantasy IX and VII too similar?

I really enjoy the final fantasy series. But I think that IX and VII were just way too similar. They were both Equally fun. I think they had equal graphics. And were just like doubles. I still get confused between them. It's easy to remember by which one had vivi (my personal favorite Black mage of all FF's) Tell me watcha think.

IN WHAT they are totaly diffrent i played almost the whole seris of ff
&7&9 are done by diffrent teams 7 was made by team that was lead by tetsuya namora wich had done 7&8&10
and 9 & 12 were made by the team that made vagrant story soo they are diffrent ...

It was my mistake. I meant to say VIII not VII.

That just makes it worse in my opinion, at least with VII and IX the graphical style was similar super-deformed bodies. VIII had realsticly proportioned bodies, it was a semi-futuristic game and IX was medieval/steampunk fantasy setting.

I agree, i've always thought IX and VII were the best games ever.
IX has always been my favorite but VII is slightly better though

In what way are they similar, other than both being a Final Fantasy game?

The story and its world, the characters, the looks, the gameplay and pretty much everything else is totally different.

If anything IX is similar to the old school titles. That was the whole purpous of the game, to shift AWAY from VII and VIII.

But even then IX is unlike any other in the series. This thread confuses me.
