    need some advise on the Buster Sword

    hello, I'm new to this site so forgive me if I'm putting this thread in the wrong area

    I've decided to start work on making my own Buster Sword replica, the later version of it. I'm limited to making it out of wood, any tips ppl could giv me to make it easier, I have a drawing with measurments and stuff like that, I was just wondering if a certain type of wood could make it more possible to actually hold it without the handle snapping off.

    any tips would be greatly apreciated

    sry fer posting twice in a row on this but I had an idea and was wondering it it was good, this picture Im attaching to this post is of the buster sword, the part surrounded my blue , I was thinking maybe making that part out of a stronger sturdier type of wood, and making the actual blade out of a lighter type of wood would help

    Buy one off eBay and replicate it. It'll give a better idea and easier to find dimensions and what not.

    I'd hit up home depot and see what they have. You're best off using a heavier wood, maybe like a 2x4 or two to create the hilt and the handle. You could probably use a footlong dowel for the handle itself. As for the blade, you'll need something sturdy enough that it won't just bend, and light enough so that you could carry/ mount it. Balsa wood might work for the blade, but you'd need to very carefully make it 2 or even 3 ply with some glue.

    After that, you could take extra balsa wood to add design to the blade. Then sand it down, prime it and paint it.

    I don't see the point in buying something you plan to make anyway. It destroys the object of wanting to make your own. >>;

    Different wood joining methods, glue and nails could probably help with making the handle sturdy enough to hold the weight of the blade. I'd suggest also having some sort of support, but I'm not sure how you'd do that... as in possibly having an iron pole inside the handle and going into about halfway into the blade, but that would add weight and be difficult to do without defacing the wood.

    Or maybe use a lighter wood for the blade? Only problem then would be that it would be flimsy... =S

    what I did to keep the handle from snapping is make the handle and blade two separate parts then fuse them together using steel bracketts. seeing the model you posted that you want to create, use the protruding design as a cover up for the brackets. as for wood I use Poplar its lite, and knot free. to see what I'm talking about check out my buster sword from my other posted thread. titled a sword I made in this FF7 forum. Hope it helps.
