Off the top of my head, I'm going to have to say "Turn the Page" By Metallica. They covered Bob Seger. It's pretty good.
Throghout the years there have many cover songs but there not always as good as the original but thats the casein alot of things. So what im asking is whats the favorite of those on this site. But i know my favorite and its definetly staind covering pink floyds dark side of the moon that they did on their singles cd.
Off the top of my head, I'm going to have to say "Turn the Page" By Metallica. They covered Bob Seger. It's pretty good.
There's so many covers I heard before. I can't think of any in the moment but two that come in my head is Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal". I liked the original by Michael Jackson but the one that AAF did was really really good. Also, another one I would have to say Evanescence's Korn cover "Thoughtless". If you hear the song its live but Amy has an amazing voice. I like the piano and the guitars in the background when she was singing it. The band did an awesome job.
Spontaneously, I'd say "God Of Thunder" by Iced Earth (originally by KISS)

I love the original but Marilyn Manson's cover of Tainted Love is awesome, so good.
Actually Marilyn Manson is really good at doing covers, a lot of songs can be reinterpreted having a morbid twist to them like he does. His covers of Personal Jesus and Tim Burton's NBC title song This Is Halloween rock as well.

I gotta go with Reel Big Fish's live cover of "Mmmbop" by Hanson. They do it James Brown style (HIT MEH, etc.) so it can easily be summed up with "wtf lol", which is Reel Big Fish in a nutshell.
I have to go with pulse on Marilyn Manson's stuff. He does great covers, with Tainted Love being my favorite from him. I don't really like listening to covers since most bands tend to screw them up big time, but sometimes, there is that one I'll listen to.
But definately, Tainted Love is a favorite along with Britney Spears' cover of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' hit I Love Rock and Roll. Though I don't really like Brit, she did a good job at covering the song.

I think an amazing cover is "War Pigs" by Faith No More, Now im a massive Black Sabbath fan and Faith No More is one of my favourite bands, and i thought that any cover of war pigs would be terrible compared to the original.
but Mike Pattons voice for those lyrics are awesome, and they sped up the song which sounds great.
Wu Tang Killa Bee's, We On The Storm.
hmm.....im gonna say.......Sweet home alabama, Covered by Kid Rock, Kid rock did what a cover should be, made it new in his own way, lol

Woods of Infinity - Old Songs (Barry Manilow cover)
There is a tantalizing peice of irony about this cover, I won't even bother mentioning it as most won't understand.
May as well take advantage of the new YouTube feature:
((no video of the cover))
I do believe Kiss Me Deadly as covered by Reel Big Fish is a favorite of mine. And when they did R.E.M's End of the World, I assure you I was compelled to dance around the room. And the covers that Michael Buble does are great. If you like Sinatra, you'll probably enjoy Buble.
It seems like there was some other cover I freaked out over, but I can't remember. Ah well.
Curious?

Diablo did a good metal cover of Duran Duran's "View To A Kill". (You know the one, for the James Bond movie.)
For a pop-rock-to-metal cover, it was pretty good. Unlike a lot of metal covers I hear these days. This one really can't be matched compared to a lot of covers out there.

I was the holder of the highest amount of rep that ever lived on TFF. 1788. lolz. I ween.
I don't know a lot of covers, but I'd have to say that my two favorites are Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal, and Korn's version of Creep by Radiohead. Korn's version of Creep was played during their MTV Unplugged special. Simply amazing.
(TFF Family):
I'd have to say HIM's cover of Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster cult. This was one of those rare occasions that the cover was better than the original, in my opinion. The original was kind of too fast I found, so it's good to hear HIM's slower version. Good stuff.
Until now!
I like Sonata Arctica's cover of Bette Midler's "The Wind Beneath My Wings".
Oh yeah, and Dragonland's cover of Limahl's "The Neverending Story".
I think these are actually the only cover songs that I have...unless you count Miyuki Nakajima's cover of TOKIO's "Sorafune", but the song was originally written by her so I don't know if that really counts as a cover... o.O'

I can't believe I forgot this song, it's one of my favourites of all time 'Where Is My Mind' cover by Placebo, originally by The Pixies. Although, as unique as Placebo do sound their version sounds very similar to the original; but when Placebo teamed up with Frank Black from the Pixies to do the song on the end of their Sleeping With Ghosts DVD it was amazing. But then I do have a bit of a placebo-fetish.
Also, Bright Eyes cover of the song 'Love I Don't Have To Love'(I'm not even sure who done the original), because so man times has this song been covered but Bright Eyes' version has always been my favourite of a great song.

I think the original is from Billy Idol

Sir Alex Ferguson is my awesome brother!
I really like 'Since I Don't Have You' by Guns n' Roses. I don't know who the original artist was of that song but they did a great job of it. I also like 'Wicked Game' by HIM, it sounds a million times better than Chris Isaak's creation lol. That's just my opinion anyway.
Guns 'n' Roses do the best cover versions.
My favourite cover versions (in that I actually like them more than the originals) are Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd), and Pet Shop Boys version of You Were Always On My Mind (If that one ever got out in my main hang-out I'd never hear the end of it; the manager is a HUGE Elvis fan!)
"Holy Diver" by Killswitch Engage and "Take On Me" by Reel Big Fish are probably my two favorite covers.

Metallica's cover of Whiskey in the Jar or Tuesday's Gone (Thin Lizzy and Skynard, respectively)
Creatures of the Night (Kiss) by Iced Earth was pretty bitchin' too.
edit:
d'oh
Number one would definitely be Hurt (Nine Inch Nails) covered by Johnny Cash.
The Absence - Into the Pit (Testament)
Asgaia - Children (Robert Miles)
Black Messiah - Moskau (Dschinghis Khan)
Diablo - A View to a Kill (Duran Duran)
Dimension Zero - Stayin' Alive (Bee Gees)
Dispatched - Final Countdown (Europe)
Edge of Sanity - Blood of My Enemies (Manowar)
Ensiferum - Battery (Metallica)
The Forsaken - Creeping Death (Metallica), You'll Never See (Grave)
Graveworm - Losing My Religion (R.E.M.)
In Flames - Everything Counts (Depeche Mode)
Infestdead - Black Night (Deep Purple)
Mystic Circle - One Rode to Asa Bay (Bathory)
Preternatural - Enjoy the Silence (Depeche Mode)
Stormlord - Moonchild (Iron Maiden)
Turisas - Rasputin (Boney M)
Vintersorg - Rainbow Demon (Uriah Heep)
Blue Suede Shoes by Elvis Presley.
It's a Carl Perkin's cover, contrary to popular belief.
Nirvana did a fantastic (in my opinion, anyway) cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" (by Leadbelly) on their Unplugged performance. On the other hand, though it wasn't asked, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Guns 'N Roses saddens me immensely. They killed it. Killed it dead.
Black Sabbath's cover of "Warning", originally played by The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation.
In fact I like it better than most of the original stuff on Black Sabbath.
Nirvana's Love Buzz for me. The original was by dutch band Shocking Blue.
I'm pretty sure there are two versions too. The original and then there was a different version on the album "Bleach".
Good stuff...

Thoughtless - Evanescence. Especially for a live cover. Like Fishie said, her vocals are amazing on it.
Also, I like Paramores' cover of 'My Hero' by Foo Fighters. It's not as good as the Foos' version, but it's still good. It's a lot more softer, and it's played with acoustic guitar rather than electric. Her vocals are also good on this track, too.
The Futureheads cover of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" is a personal favorite. You'd never think that a bunch of north-East English men would be able to do a good cover of a Bush song but its fantastic!
Manic Street Preachers did a great cover of "Suicide is Painless" (Theme from M*A*S*H), and did it beautifully. I prefer it hundreds of times over the original. Marilyn Manson did a good cover of it too. It's odd since i'm not a huge fan of Manson, however I agree with the other members on the board that his cover versions are great. I also love his ones of "Tainted Love" and "Personal Jesus".
Appocalyptica have done some beautiful covers of Metallica songs.

carry on my wayward son by Kansas it always makes me happy lol
My favorite has to be "Mad World by Tears for Fears." It was covered by Gary Jules, and his version is even better than the original. It's a great song, and was in an advertisement for Gears of War. I highly recommend you check out this cover song.
