Hey, I haven't seen a thread on one of the most important rock bands ever: Queen! I'm a great fan of Queen and I'd like to know what you think about them!
Well Queen are the greatest rock band in history IMHO. I was brought up on the band from about the age of four, my brother was a big fan and he sort of educated me on them. I've inherited his back catalogue which contains every album they ever made, Freddie's solo work and even Brian's solo efforts too. I have a lot of posters and other merchandise too. I have all the live albums too, and some of the photos from their tours. I have all the DVD's from their live performances too. To be honest it's a very great regret that I never got to see them live, especially with the energy and flamboyance Freddie brought to the stage. I had the opportunity to see them live when they recently toured with Paul Rodgers, but I didn't think it'd be the same so I didn't go. Personal favourite albums include A Night at the Opera, The Miracle and News of the World. I also really like Mr. Bad Guy and Barcelona (the whole opera) from Freddie. Song-wise I really like Death On Two Legs, Party/Khashoggi's Ship, Innuendo, Hammer To Fall and It's a Hard Life. Great thread by the by, I'll be keeping tabs
Spoiler: Care to have a look at my WordPress Journal?
I am a big Queen fan, and my dad has all of their albums, so I listen to them all the time. I hope to inherit them later.

My mum is a huge Queen fan, and I also grew up listening it. My mum has practically all of the albums, mostly on cassette though, and I even have my own copy of 'A Kind of Magic'. I also want copies of Innuendo and The Miracle, as they were my favourites along with that one. My mum is a big fan of Freddie Mercury in general, and was delighted when my dad managed to get a copy of Mr Bad Guy on CD for her one Christmas.
Great too see fans of Queen and of Freddie. I have all the albums by Queen, too. However, my favourite albums are the very first: Queen, Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack. Also the others are great but these have something more, something the others album don't have! My favourite album is Queen II: it contains a lot of brilliant songs, although, unfortunately, they're not famous, like The March of the Black Queen, Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke, White Queen, Ogre battle... I love this album even because of the voice Freddie had at that time: it was so sweet (just think to "Nevermore"), so perfect! I also like the "look" Freddie and the others had: long hair, black nails and everything. Hey FFGuru, are you kidding? You had an opportunity to go and see Queen live (even if with Paul) and you decided not to go? I would have gone! Hope to see them also here in Italy soon!
QUEEN! I love that band. I haven't listened to all their songs, but of the ones I've heard so far, I know I like them. I like a few songs like You're my Best Friend, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Under Pressure. They have good songs for random listening in one album.
Queen was a great rock band, they still are classed as one of the best. I didn't hear much of them until I was about 9 or 10 since my parents always played 60's stuff when I was little. When I first heard them I fell in love with their music. The first song I heard was 'We Are the Champions' which is one of my favorites by them easily. They are not one of my top five bands but they're up there somewhere. They were great. ^_^

Hope to see them also here in Italy soon! Well *scratches head* yeah it was a bit odd that I didn't go now I think about it. But it's just personal preference I think, I don't think it could ever be the sam e for me, I'm an irritating purist in that respect haha Yeah the early stuff, especially pre-1975 is pretty underrated. There's certain songs I like, Liar, Keep Yourself Alive and Sheer Heart Attack spring to mind. The look makes me smile even now lol
Yeah, they were a bit weird! But Freddie in an interview said (in 1985 more or less) : " I would look ridiculous if I dressed like I used to in the 70s... Well I looked ridiculous then, but it worked!!" Anyway... I know that without Freddie and John (remember that he was an important member of the band) it's not the same anymore, we can't speak of "Queen" anymore... But just go there and listen to brian and Roger...Well, I wouldn't have missed that opportunity! Unfortunately, as you said, the early works are underrated and almost unknown. But, for me, they're the best!
Well yeah lest we not forget Mr. Deacon. Responible for some of the catchiest baselines in music. Under Pressure anyone? And I probably won't make the same mistake again. I hear they're doing another tour soon so I'll keep tabs on it.
Yeah, I think they're gonna be on tour soon. Even if they're gonna perform the songs from the album that Brian and Roger are making with Paul, I'm surely going! There will be Queen's best songs I think (and hope!). Happy you won't make that terrible mistake again! Deacon wrote some of the best songs by Queen: Another one bites the dust, You're my best friend (it's often broadcast in american radios, isn't it?), I want to break free... Deacon didn't write Under Pressure, he only played the famous bass riff.
Oh I know he didn't write it, but his mark's all over it. Not only that but he wrote Rain Must Fall and I love that song. You're My Best Friend gets a reasonable amount of airtime over here too.
Queen is one of the best rock bands ever. They had an ability to write, play, perform and overall just be entertaining. I own a couple of their albums including one of their greatest hits, the gold one. I think it's truly awesome. My father saw them back in the Fat Bottom Girls tour, he said it was something like nobody else could ever do, and I believe it!
Really? Would have been great to be there! I can just see their dvd concerts that, anyway, are great! One of the best is Live at the Bowl in 1982!
The MK Bowl one? Yep, it is indeed quite the performance. Whenever I watch it I have to listen to Live Killers for about a week afterward lol Plus theres the Kind of Magic tour, that's quite poignant really.
I love Queen. I grew up listening to oldies, thanks to my parents. I have a Grestest Hits CD from Queen. Man, they're priceless. They also have really awesome catchy songs.. which I find are on a lot of comercails, but oh well.
Incidentally the DFS adverts at the moment are playin I Want It All... Making me smile whenever I watch any commercial TV hehe.
i am also a huge queen fan, but like most people around here. i couldnt see freedie in concert, i was only 2 months old when he died. but i did go to the opening tour with paul rogers. and before anyone says anything, no he did not replace mercury. he was only a singer for the band. and during bohemean raphsody, they had freddie on a meggatron instead of rogers trying to sing it. i also grew up listening to them which was fun. my grandfather gave me (wait for it...) an autographed copy of the night at the opera lp. it is among one of my most cherist possesions with "are you expierienced(autopraphed - hendrix) and "dark side of the moon(autographed - pink floyd)"
