I love Nightwish, and pretty much ANY Symphonic metal band.
Seen em Live with Sonata Arctica before.
For Our Lord Sheogorath, without Whom all Thought would be linear and all Feeling would be fleeting. Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge. Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Blessed is the Madgod, who tricks us when we are foolish, punishes us when we are wrong, tortures us when we are unmindful, and loves us in our imperfection.

I really like Nightwish with their original singer and her opera-like voice. It's been awhile since I've listened to them, I was always wanting to try and get into them but never got around to it.
It's a genre I always thought I could get into, but, as I said, just never really got around to it.
Old Nightwish is the best. Tarja was awesome! Anete is...okay but now they sound like a rock band instead of a metal one. Their best album is definetly
"Once"

Dark Passion Play wasnt bad at all considering it was with a new singel, I was expecting it to suck, but it still sounded suprisingly good. Though I actually prefer Tarot to Nightwish, Tarot is Marco Heitala's (Nightwish's bass and male vocalist) other band.

Yeah Dark Passion Play was a good album just not as good as Once, Century Child, or Oceanborn. I didnt know that Marco had a band. That oughta be good. Thanks for the info.

He also was featured on Delain's new album, they're similar to Nightwish. And he also sings with Northern Kings, which is a cover band made up of Tony from Sonata Arctica, JP from Charon, Jarkko from Terasbetoni, and Marco. They turn random 80s pop rock into metal, kind of odd, but in a good way.

I'm also a big Nightwish fan (and of Tarja in particular. Her being an opera singer prior to singing in Nightwish only adds to this, as I'm also big on Classical music and opera). If I had to pin down one favourite album, I'd probably go with Once, if only for the fact that I think it's their most balanced album.
I'm also well-acquainted with several of the bands mentioned above, namely Epica, Visions of Atlantis, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Rhapsody of Fire, and Kamelot. Rhapsody of Fire and Stratovarious are probably my most listened to bands (Nightwish aside) when it comes to Symphonic Metal. I'll have to look into some of those other bands, though!![]()
Once is definetly Nightwish's best album. The songs are awesome. Planet Hell and Romanticide are my favorites.

Just absed on this thread, I think you two and I will get along very nicely. I liste to alot of 70s and 80s rock too lol.

The first time I cared to listen any of their songs is when my brother bought one of their compilation albums called "Tales from the Elvenpath", I was simply enchanted by Tarja's voice and since then I became a big fan buying every studio and live album they've released. Although I consider every one of their albums a masterpiece (except maybe "Dark Passion Play") my favorite one would be "Wishmaster", which contains probably the best set of Nightwish songs and my favorite "She is my Sin".
Sig and Avy made by Unknown Entity
Bless the Child is probably my favorite song with Tarja, I forget which album it was on though >.<

F*ck yeah I like Nightwish. They are an amazing group. I am also a big fan of Northern Kings. I have Last FM on my 360, and it recomended them, and I listened. They are amazing bands..
First time I heard of them is when I watched the movie "Alone in the Dark"
"I wish I had an Angel" ..video, with movie footage, was on the disc extra's.
I ended up buying the compilation cd soundtrack which is really good!

Holy crap, you guys are way behind the times.
Nightwish has been around since 1996 and you're just now finding out about it?!
Anyways, some of my favorite songs by them are "The Phantom of the Opera", "Over the Hills and Far Away", "Sleeping Sun" and "Bless the Child".
I recently heard a Nightwish song today called The Poet and the Pendulum. It was a 13 minute song. Usually with songs like this I tend to stop listening after 7 or 8 minutes. But this song was so great that I listened to the entire damn song.
I heard about em around 04. But, they were by no means my first symphonic metal band. Been listening to Stratovarius for as long as I can remember. And they've been playing since about 6 years before my birth.

Even though I no longer listen to metal after getting drowned in it "in dis dark country of metal lololol", I still adore Nightwish. Part of the reason is probably nostalgia and the other part that they're simply that good! They have an unique sound and Tuomas' lyrics are mysterious and very poetic. I think it comes out best in Erämaan viimeinen where the lyrics are in his mother tongue.
I just wish they'd start a new album instead of being on a world-tour for ten years. But I think most like to see them live... I'm not much into crowded places with loud voices and noises, hoho.
What I also like in Nightwish's work is the artwork in the albums. They pay much attention to little details to make the albums perfect. Me likes.![]()
Lali-hoe, I mean, ho!
Nightwish live is always a good show. I was fairly certain I'd died and gone to heaven when I saw em with Sonata Arctica. The huge crowd's and damaged eardrums are just a part of the fun lol.

I haven't listened to a whole lot of Nightwish, but I remember Amaranth was my first song by them. It sounded kind of lame at first, but that's what I think of most songs the first time I heard them. When I started listening to it time and time again, though, I just completely loved that song, so I started to listen to more of their music. Angels Fall First is a nice song, too, and Poet and the Pendulum is completely epic. The first instrumental part is just amazing.
Oh, and just as a side note, I personally do like Anette's voice a little bit better than Tarja, but they both have amazing voices.
