    Music and Memories

I was wondering, does anyone have music tied to a memory in your life? Such as certain years of my life i listened to say this or that band, and when I hear them I instinctively will think of that time first before anything else.

Such as whenever I listen to the song 40' by Franz Ferdinand I automatically think of last winter. Mariko was coming home and was in a rut at the airport in Holland, so getting calls that would wake me to that tune as the ringtone over and over make that time engrained into my life. So coldness, Holland, night time and worrying are all associated with that song alone....the rest of the album I put with Resident Evil 4 since I got them both for my birthday and I listened to alot of the album as I played through the game, so they're hand in hand.

its kinda funny you asked that, but my tale is that of a sad one... It all started back in
in 00 my grandma died the very first song i heard after finding out was adams song by blink182. The in 01 i lost 2 cousins due to different reasons, once again very first thing i heard was adams song

the again in02, i had a buddy that was shot in the head for turning in some gang members, and one of the people from my graduating class died in a car wreck, and once again both times very first song i heard after finding out was adams song.

    See the trend yet???

so now anytime i hear that song i get really down and out, because it brings back so many memories, good and bad....

one of my old roomates thought it was funny to play that song anytime i was drinking because he knew that if i heard it i would stop what i was doing and have a moment of silence for those that had passed

Yeah, say if they're playing some old school music on the radio and these oooold ass songs from LL Cool J or Dr Dre, Snoop come on and it just reminds me of my 90's years and elementry or middle school. Or it even reminds me when we used to have our family get togethers and my cousin would blast songs by them or any artist in that area and it brings me back. I have some songs in my memory that remind me of people I've met along the road of life.

It's a rather strange coincidence but about a week before my dad died I had the song "Stairway to Heaven" from Led Zeppelin stuck in my head, he was big into his hard rock and liked Led Zep but there was just something that got it stuck in my head so now every time I think of it, it reminds me. Also neither of us were religious.

I have a lot of meaningful songs to me that bring up emotion. And Meier, Adam's Song is one of my most favorite songs of all time, reminds me a lot of my childhood, I can understand how that could connect emotionally to memories.

The song 'Every Me, Every You' by Placebo is mine and my fiance's song so that brings up a lot of good feelings.

For some reason the song 'Chop Suey' by System Of A Down makes me really angry at my parents.

And 'Konstantine' by Something Corporate is maybe the most emotive provoking song in my life, it makes me swoon with enfactuation whenever I hear it.

Opeth's "Isolation Years", along with Ayreon's "The Human Equation", "Valley of The Queens" and anything by Dream Theater tends to remind me of my ex, of whom I'd been with for two and a half years until I ended it.

I generally like a few of the songs still, but I sometimes think about him when a certain part of one of those songs play.

Katatonia's "For My Demons" and Xasthur's "Bleak Necrotic Paleness" remind me of times when I struggled violently with my mental health. I underwent a massive breakdown last year and was almost constantly taking medication that was having a reverse effect.

The Arcane Order reminds me of my time spent studying at college and spending time with Nathan, Kelly and Sean. (My main friends from college.)

Opeth's "In My Time of Need" reminds me of the times I went to and from college, as I listened to it a lot during my college days.

"The Necklace of Marie Antoinette" by Hannah Fury reminds me of a family member that was murdered.. Not in a similar instance that as was in the song.. But... I dunno. Can't help thinking about them together.

Pretty much any old country song makes me think of the past because I grew up listening to it, but there are certain songs that will cause me to become very emotional due to what the song means to me.
Songs like "That's My Job" by Conway Twitty and "The Box" by Randy Travis make me feel this way when I listen to them.

"Amazing Grace"(especially the version by George Jones) is another song that makes me feel this way.

"Shampoo - Uh Oh! We're in trouble!" brings back so many memories from when I was a toddler. I loved that song, and we'd always play it in the car when we were... driving. Duh lol. But yeah, I was a cheeky little girl (still am every now and then), and if I knew I was gonna get in trouble for doing something, I'd start singing it, and it put mum out of whatever bad mood I'd put her in! ^_^

This isn't going back that long ago, but me and my friends Sam, Ella and Michelle used to sit out in the school play ground in the sun, having a laugh under the trees, and... mucking about, talking random sh*t all the time. At the time, we had all developed a love for "How To Save A Life" by The Fray. Ha, we damn near killed that song, playing it every lunch time lol.

There are so many memories that get triggered by songs, but I can't remember many. Another funny thing that seems to trigger memories are my clothes. I can usually remember what I wore to an event months ago. But thats going off topic.

A tad old, but I like this thread lol!

Mine is I will always love you by Dolly Parton. Yes country. But when my grandpa died I couldn't stop listening to it, for it was our song. But now I can't listen to it. I was six when he died.

Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay, Otis Redding. For some reason I just connect it with everything. Lifts me up when I'm down, makes me think when I'm up. Indefatigable.
