I must admit, I often can't stand music if it's not in a language I understand. Lyrics are very important and it drives me insane [even moreso] when I've no idea what they're going on about. Alot of translators don't work, either.

Most of it does have a good sound to it, though. I think I have a small amount of Gackt somewhere on my computer.

The main thing I listen to that's not in English would be Aural Vampire, but I don't think you could really call most of their music rock.. Darkwave, and it ranges from flat-out synthpop to something more industrial. And the lead is cute ^^. I don't think she ever takes her vampire teeth off.
I've been on this site since 2006 woah

I like some Jrock, but I haven't even heard any of the newer stuff that's come out in the recent years. Most of the bands I like are disbanded now.

I'm a fan of Lareine, Luna Sea, Penicillin, Raphael, X Japan and Janne da Arc.
I also have a few of the earlier Malice Mizer songs (with Gackt as the vocalist) and a few other songs by various bands, but that's about it.

If a song sounds good, I don't care what language it's in...which might explain why I have more than 6gbs of enka music... o.O
I have Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, German, Spanish and Finnish songs.
I have more foreign language songs than English language songs. XD

To be honest I've never really listened to any Jrock music, nor any Jpop or any of that kind of music. But I wouldn't be able to say I don't like it 'til I gave it a listen.

So, if someone could please give me a good song/artist/album so I can give it a listen. I'm into instrumental or alternative rock music in general so any suggestions?

I'm not personally into any J-rock, but I do have friends that are. I've given a few songs a listen, but I'm not that impressed. It sounds like English music...just in a language I can't understand. Like Vampi, I find that a huge turn off. I might like it more if I understood everything, but for now I'm out.

The only Japanese music I listen to (if this counts) are songs from Katamari and things in animes. Those are nice.

Pulse, I would suggest some X Japan to start off with. "DAHLIA", " Forever Love", "Rusty Nail", "Say Anything", "Tears" and "Weekend" are some of their best songs in my opinion. Some of these songs are ballads, but they are really great.

I'd also suggest checking out "Bel Air ~Kuuhaku no Toki no Naka de~" by Malice Mizer or "FAKE" or "Lunatic Gate" by Janne da Arc.

Might want try "Ningyou" by Tsukiko Amano as well. She's the only female Jrock artist that I have songs for. ^^'
Here's a video of her song "Chou" from the game Fatal Frame II.

Check out "Sorafune" by TOKIO as well. It's the theme song of the Japanese drama 'My Boss, My Hero'.

I am somewhat a fan of J-rock. There are only a few groups/people I have listened to:

    Amano Tsukiko
    Kamiki Aya
    L'Arc En Ciel
    UVERworld
    Zone

I know, not a huge variety in artists, but it's what I'll listen to for now. I probably would listen to more if I hadn't just gotten addicted to everyone's favorite Finnish Symphonic Power Metal band Nightwish.

    Mind you, I don't know if it's everyone's favorite...but, back on topic.

Amano Tsukiko...I do enjoy her song Chou very much, it is a very beautiful song. I used to listen to her song Same a good deal, that is, until I listened to it too much.

As for Kamiki Aya, I do own her CD Secret Code and still listen to it a bit, but not as much as I used to. I am still a fan of several of her songs and watch her music videos online. My current favorite song is Misekeki I Love You.

L'Arc En Ciel I have not listened to very much. I've honestly only heard about two songs by them, but I like their style and will probably look into their music a bit more eventually.

UVERworld...really, it's the same deal as with L'Arc En Ciel. The main song I can identify them with is the song Chance.

Now for Zone (yay, more sentence fragments...I use too many as is but who cares). I enjoy several of their songs, especially the song Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~. Unfortunately, I first heard about them about one or two years after they broke up. At least I have discovered them at some point in my life. Many of their songs are beautiful, in my opinion. However, I do not know of this section is on topic. I think they are J-rock, but they may be J-pop. Either way, I like them so I threw the name out there.

I don't really have time for music that copied every aspect of David Bowie's image onto themselves. Visual Kei and Oshare Kei (even worse than Visual Kei) are just terrible. Anugra Kei is even worse - anyone who wants to listen to (what are fundamentally) Japanese versions of songs about ritual suicide from Japanese people, who look more like raccoons than people, don't get my vote to stay in the gene pool.

Dir En Grey? Incredibly over-rated. Dir En Grey have no Japanese fans because the people in Japan realize that the band is overrated and not worth listening to. So the fanbase is made up of Americans.
    Silly Americans.

But, I guess that all seems 'original' - bands whose images truly are interchangable. Show any of these bands to a wide Western audience and they'd be laughed out of existence - especially since most of it is corporate rock crap.

At it's heart, Jrock is a terrible rehash of 70's Glam Rock. Why would I want to listen to that, when I listen to the originals? Besides, why would I want anything to do with a world of music where everyone seems to be delusional. I.e. All the boys look like girls (I.E. DOING IT WRONG) and every Japanese man is gay.

Seriously, I can't tell the gender of half of those weirdos.

Yeah, I know there are bands that create actual music. Bands which do not consist of fags playing air guitar, crossdressing, or do anything else mentioned. Hell, they even focus on the actual music, sound good and put on great shows.
Problem is most of their names sound silly in English.

Seriously; Sex Machineguns? The Seatbelts? World's End Girlfriend?

So, no. I don't really like much Jrock, but there is stuff to like. Its just hard to find without wading through crap.

Note: No, I'm not trolling. You just need to deal with the fact there are people who disagree.
