You guys probably aren't too appreciative of Christian music, but I feel you guys would like Extol's old stuff.
Their only song that would count as their old stuff from this link is Undeceived, so I only recommend that song and that song only.
The other three songs are off their latest, mediocre, thrash-influenced album.
Their old Melodic Black Metal (stuff prior to Undeceived) is worth a listen too.

I suppose the M stands for Metal, I am just curious though...
I don't listen to much Death, Vital Remains is something I want to listen to more. Nile is excellent, Obituary is a morbid classic and my favorite DM band. Very good Death, yet some songs are almost more Doomish than they are Death Metal. Slowly We Rot is an album I recommend.
NWOBHM = New Wave Of British Heavy Metal
USOSDM = United States Old School Death Metal ... I think
I haven't heard much NWOBHM but my English BM source listens to quite a few bands, one day I shall have to check some of it out.
What do you guys think of the Stoner/Doom band Electric Wizard? I've been listening to Dopethrone a little bit lately. I am sure darkViVi would find interest in them.

Electric Wizard is okay I suppose. I like the first album and the last one the best. A lot of people seem to dislike Let Us Prey, but I never really understood why. I like it a lot more than their more sludgy albums with the distorted vocals. The NWOBHM had some absolutely fantastic, though sadly often quite shortlived, bands. If it wasn't for the NWOBHM and the underground aesthetic of that movement, I am pretty sure that metal would never have evolved into a genre as diverse as it is today.

If it wasn't for the NWOBHM I am not even sure if there would even be a thrash metal, or a black metal, or a death metal. Not only because of the musical influence , but because the movement brought the underground diy aesthetic of the UK punk and hardcore scene and brought into metal. an aesthetic which was vital in the formation of the early death metal, black metal, and thrash metal scenes.

That song isn't half bad really. If you want some good Christian metal, then I highly recommend the 2 first Trouble albums "Psalm 9" and "The Skull". Great and really really heavy epic doom metal with some great thrashy and psychedelic elements.
When it comes to Christian Metal, I would have to say I am a guru, not to sound conceited (even though to you it probably sounds like I'm insulting myself).
I probably should have considered those, but in consideration to the majority of this thread, I found Extol more fitting.
I think Christian black metal is too much of an oxymoron for 99,99% of all black metal fans really. Doom metal on the other hand, has always had a weakness for Christian imagery and myth, going all the way back to Black Sabbath. Candlemass for example, even though they aren't a Christian band, has always been fond of biblical themes.
Christian black metal exists and those who say otherwise are complete idiots. Even worse are the tools that come out of the woodworks to say Christian metal can't exist.

It may not be full-on aggressive black/death-metal, but I find this stuff pretty darn entertaining. You guys should check them out if you haven't already. (I'm fairly sure you've all heard of Xasthur, though.) :cool:
The basis of Black Metal is Anti-Christianity so effectively Christian Black Metal is indeed an oxymoron and any band such as the Swedish twins on Pimp my Ride are just idiots who are completely clueless to the meaning of BM. Death Metal I assume is similar in a way but they have less focus on anti-christian themes. Doom Metal on the other hand is a different story as mentioned above. Yes it does exist however I am not going to waste my time listening to such a disgrace.
Oh and I met the guy from Abyssic Hate, he seems like an ok guy.

I've been listening to some old school KsE and it had me thinking that perhaps Metalcore isn't the steaming pile of cow shit that I had originally though. Can somebody recommend any other good metalcore?
On the subject of NWoBHM... If you're talking aesthetics in the sense of gimmicky fashion, **** it. We have Judas Priest, Metal would have gotten to where it is w/o the NWoBHM. All you needs is some tight leather pants and steel toed boots, **** mohawks or Converse sneaker bullshit.
NWOBHM is like Black Metal in a way in which it is a collectors genre where people love to collect rare and limited releases in particular demo's and a lot of stuff sells for quite a high price. Also Rob Halford is openly queer, I personally would not aspire to be a huge Judas Priest fan though I won't deny their influence.
KsE sucks, I would sell you my CD but I think I've lost it. I dunno but Metalcore is just... not my thing.
I went to a show last night. There were 4 metal bands that I had never heard of. The first one was called Common Yet Forbidden. They came from Orlando, Florida. They were the only band that rocked the house. Most American metal sounds cheesy, but these guys were a solid act. The only time the skankers came out and moshed were while this band was on stage. Imagine my amazement when I found out that they were a christain band. A friggin christain band!!! I was lmfao when I read the posts about christain metal. I didn't think think such music could even exist. But these guys put on an awesome show. They were also the ONLY christain band on stage. I'm not much of a christain. In fact if you wanna know what I think of christains then read the 4th sentence of the second post of the Does God Exist? thread located in Intellectual Discusion.

Have you heard Mortuary Drape? Get Secret Sudaria if you can find it... it takes a little while to get into it.
Yeah, the Paul Chain stuff is pretty great but I'm inclined to say that Black Mass was their best work. I've not heard any of SS's solo work but I do quite enjoy Paul Chain's work.Quote:

Black Mass was good, but it was a bit too slick in my opinion and perhaps not nearly as interesting as the early stuff or In Death Of Steve Sylvester. Still pretty great though and rather catchy.
Personally I think the best stuff comes from 1994 - 1998 which is when a lot of my personal favourite albums came out, I haven't taken the time to really examine the earlier bands besides the Scandinavian bands and a few others but I found stuff like Beherit, Havohej and the like boring, mind you Holy Death is good if you haven't heard them.
Anyway I think I might take a break from Metal... I want to explore more of this Noise and Power Electronics.
