It's weird being complimented on guitar playing - I've only been seriously playing since fall of 2009. But I do practice every day, so I ascribe any and all of my improvement to that.

I have written eight or nine songs at this point, some better than others, and I'm hoping to record more of them soon. I'm grateful that you guys are willing to listen.

Sounds great hun! I am 100% tone deaf and can only sing in the shower. The water noise drowns out my tone deafness to bearable levels.

I know what you mean about music that needs a band. I think that's why I defaulted to more contemporary folk-y stuff. Here's hoping you get that band and get a recording you're happy with someday.

....I recorded two more of my songs this weekend.

KEEP IN MIND. Me, a guitar, my rented student housing, a little portable recorder, and Garage Band. This is not studio quality shit. It is what it is. Mostly, I'm getting used to being recorded (I tense up big time), getting the bare minimum of my lyrics and music out there, and letting people back home hear them for ideas on how I should produce them later.

I've been listening obsessively, picking out things I want to differently with my voice, picking out things to keep for next time... Anyone else do that shit?

Halie: Aaaahhhhhhh thank you! So nice. What actually happened with that song is kind of (kiiiiiiind of) interesting. I was looking at photographs of sculptures and then words came. I wrote all the lyrics in like... an hour, it was the weirdest thing. Then I had to write music for it, and I tried to make it way more complicated than it should have been. So I had to simplify before I was happy. I ended up with, I think, eight chords total for that song which is a bit much for my genre, but whatev. Let's see, the sculptures I was looking at.....

I recorded something with a nicer microphone than I've used for any of the others and the difference in sound quality made me want to re-record eeeverything (for the others, I've been using a portable recording device, which worked well for what it was, but maaaaaan).

If you've ever tried recording something, have you ever upgraded and then felt awesome about it? Or I don't know haha.
