In FF lll how do you defeat bahamut the first time!?!?!

This question belongs in the FFIII forum. But to answer your question, you can't beat him at that point in the game, it's impossible. The designers put him there in terms of story plot and it wasn't intended that you stand a chance of defeating him at such a low level. Plus at lvl 9-11 you won't really make a dent in him, so I'd just run and wait til later in the game.

Like I said, all you do is hit the run command, and hope that one of your guys gets it, since using run doesn't always work and can lower your defense to 0. But yeah just keep using run and you'll be ok.

ok so if i manage to run its still going to count as i won and ill be in the nest and the dragon will be gone?

No, at that level theres no way you can win. Once you run, the battle ends and your party will escape from the nest. Bahamut won't follow you, but you take it on later in the game as a side quest.
