Conversation Between T.G. Oskar and Sarah

  1. Oh man, I feel stupid for not recognizing them as Arch Enemy. I have listened to some of their live stuff and liked it. Not enough to know it inside and out, though.

In regards to the Spanish rock you referred to, I'm willing to try to listen to just about anything once but pop, rap, R & B, and country. There are a few exceptions, like Insane Clone Posse, Twizted, and Johnny Cash.

I do like me some old skool music. Some seriously old school. I was raised by my grandparents and grew up with my uncle, so I've heard some old stuff. I've been a fan of Metallica since before ...And Justice For All. I really like Slayer and Megadeth, although I don't have any of their stuff. I also looove oldies. I went to a lot of concerts with my grandfather when I was a kid and saw those that would still play, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Neil Diamond, Eddie Valie, and many others. Also saw a shit load of Elvis impersonators. (My grandparents even had an Elvis shrine.) The scope of music I listen to and enjoy is almost impossible for me to list. Plus, I suck with genres. Heh.

Anyway, to respond to the rest... I do think that adding more classical styled instruments makes for an incredible sound. I like symphonic metal, although I do run into a problem of a lot of it sounding the same. Industrial is good, as well. Love Rammstein, so I'll have to check those out.

I'll recommend some stuff to you, since you're giving me so much. =D I'm not sure whether you've heard any of the following or will like them, but try giving a listen to Unearth, Miranda Sex Garden, Still Breathing, The Agonist, Light This City, Into the Silence (can only get the music from me), Skycamefalling, Hanzel und Gretyl, and HORSE the Band (I always have to promote them). Haha. That is quite the mix of stuff.

    >.> Sorry for the rambliness.
  2. Eh, always glad to help here. Though, that's what has came into my mind, so far I haven't heard of other female-led bands...unless you're considering Spanish Rock. Alas, though, barriers of language and perhaps lack of wicked riffs may shun you far away.

Though, seriously...I never imagined you'd be hearing Metallica. Wouldn't be surprised to hear you listen to other old-skool bands like Whitesnake, or Judas Priest, or Megadeth, or Slayer. Maybe, perhaps, even older bands (Rolling Stones?)

I miss "Die Die My Darling". One of the best short-length songs ever, if only for the sudden rush of adrenaline. Also, I like the Apocalyptica covers.

Do you think violin and organ fit thematically metal songs? I've been a fan of symphonic metal since Metallica released S&M (which I bought, twice, just because I lost the first ones), then with Rhapsody of Fire and Nightwish. I still have to listen to Blind Guardian, tho.

P.S.: Dunno how much you like Rammstein, but if you're into decent Industrial, you might try some OOMPH!! It's a bit more refined, at least from the fourth release afterwards. The best known are "Augen Auf" and "Gott ist ein Popstar", but try getting "Supernova"; it's really good.
  3. Thanks for sending that video of Nemesis. I do like them quite a bit. (Need more, though.) I knew of pretty much all of the female fronted/ female inclusive bands you referred to, though. It's a big chunk of what I listen to. You can see some of it on my last.fm profile. The library there isn't completely everything I listen to. It's just been the last few months.

If you notice bands I don't have there, please, let me know! Thanks ahead of time for sharing awesomeness. =)
