It was japan only but XSEED localized the games. So far Oath in Felghana and Ys SEVEN has been released in the US. Ys I & II Chronicles is coming out this February localized. Theres another Ys title called Ark of Naphistim and its for PSP and PS2 and for that one, I'd pick up the PS2 version because the other one is choppy.
I would prefer to do them all in order, though. And are you sure 1 and 2 for the PSP is being localized? Or is it Japan only?
I could tell you where you could start with the Ys games. Start with I&II Chronicles which is coming out for the PSP this month those are the best of the series; Oath in Felghana is really good too, and if you're wanting to try another Ys game after that, theres Ys SEVEN.
