I disagree with your assessment of Rand being an anarcho-capitalist. As you said she hated being associated with anarchy or libertarianism. Reading her work it was explicitly stated she was an avid supporter of laissez-faire capitalism & in favor of a government. I just feel you picked the wrong sub-category of capitalism.
Lady Luck or whatever Lady is still against my girlfriend as her recruiter let her papers expire so he had to refile or reapply them - he needs to do something else in my view. Yeah I've heard from a few people how recruiters will promise you the moon to get you to join (but they're oblivious to the fact that I don't the moon - I want Mars). Well that stinks about the food service; I guess the way to get into that would to find whom they outsource to and see what requirements are needed. A person I know in the Coast Guard has said the same thing about the influx in the military and there not being a lot of openings. Though another person said that his grandfather said that that is not entirely true (his grandfather fought in Nam and still talks to people in the military - I don't trust that source though). Well you could become the new DEMOLITION MAN with the skills the Army has taught you. But your new gig you're trying to get into is pretty sweet. May you accomplish your goal.
She's going to MEPS to take her ASVAB, you mean? And cooks in the military usually don't do much for actual cooking -- that'd be like saying I "cook" for myself all the time, when my "cooking" consists of ramen, ramen with chicken in it, frozen pizza, or hamburger helper. If you're really considering getting into it, talk to somebody who does it -- NOT a recruiter, because they'll tell you whatever will make you join. And a lot of the military's food service industry is outsourced to civilians now, so it might be a little difficult to get into it. After Clinton got out and people wanted to fight for America again, and after 9/11, and after lowering the standards a little to make sure we had the manpower to get through OIF and OEF both ... the military is a little overstaffed, honestly. And with the poor economy, a lot of people are getting in just because it's prettymuch a guaranteed job -- the problem with that is that now we have an influx of Privates that are just incompetent people, and since we're overstaffed and they're not giving reenlistment bonuses anymore, our experienced leadership is leaving. Yay. But it's definitely a good idea to go into something that will give you a civilian job skill. All the Army's taught me how to do is shoot people, find bombs, and blow shit up. There's not really any civilian jobs that will let me do the same things. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, but it doesn't help my civilian job prospects -- we,, other than management and supervision and such from leading troops, but leading a fire team and leading a sales team are two totally different things. That's why I'm going Warrant Officer when I get back, then through Rotary Wing Operator school. I love Combat Engineer, but the military is about all I can do with that. But when I get back and go through rotary wing school, hell, I can write my own ticket. Hospitals, police departments, tourism places, news agencies, private travel, even training other helicopter pilots for the Army -- and all making a hundred, hundred and twenty, hundred and fifty grand a year. Very nice.
Well my girlfriend goes up to Richmond tomorrow to take her M.E.P.S again. This time there shouldn't be a problem preventing her from taking them and hopefully she passes and gets in. As for me, I've recently thought about joining the military. I've had an unsuccessful time deciding what I wanted my career to be and so the military may be the best option to jump start my "second-life". I have been leaning towards becoming a chef and if I could join the military and cook, that would be a sweet deal. Though some of my family members aren't too keen on the idea of me joining the military much less the me entertaining the idea. My cousin, when I first told that, that is what I may do, thought that my life had ended. My aunt has - jokingly - said that she would come down here and smack or kill me if I joined. They may not like it but the military may be the best thing for me. What's up with you?
Hey there. Hay is for horses, so let's make some glue!
Would it be safe to say that you have almost completely recovered from your horrible injury? My girlfriend is still waiting to do her M.E.P.S. Last time she went up to Richmond the guy forgot to get her medical records from her so she could do nothing the whole day. Then he forgot about his recruits and picked her and the others up at 6 p.m. while the other recruiters had already picked their recruits around 2 in the afternoon. My friend and I said that her recruiter is pretty bad, he is not there at the office a lot when she calls inquiring about the next time she'll be going up to Richmond. How he has handled her case, to us, is sub-par as if the guy doesn't really care about doing an adequate job. We said she should try to get a different recruiter whom wouldn't be as bad. She is still with her original recruiter but she did call today; he said that she would be going up to Richmond in the early part of June. Which is good because she needs to get on with her life and get out of the apartment she is in. She is staying with people that we are both friends with, however they aren't the cleanest people: leaving dishes in the sink for days, not taking the trash out when it is overflowing, drinks sitting around unfinished, mold growing on a computer desk, ect. and they always like to blame her whenever there is an argument involving her. Now she may have started some but I'm inclined to believe that one of them would "jab" her first and she would "jab" back defending herself. They would get offended that she would dare do such a thing and then gang up on her - verbally. It also appears that whenever one of them drinks there is an argument. I've gotten tired of the arguing and their messy lifestyle so after I had a heated exchange with them I've distanced myself from them, caring less and less about them. My niece makes me realize that at this point in time I am not ready for children and possibly never will be. She occasionaly has bad days but I don't think I could handle it, who knows my child could be worse on the flip-side it could be better - all a game of chance. Sometimes when I'm watching tv she comes over and knows exactly which button is for the power and presses it. She begins to walk away and as I turn the tv back on she turns around and presses the power button again. She may do that 2-4 times. Sometimes she can be so mishcievious. While I enjoy being around her, when she's good, I like being the Uncle because I can always hand her off to her mother/my sister.
Olbermann is a complete joke -- the thing is, jokes like O'Reilly get all the attention and people tend to ignore Olbermann, just because he's a liberal. I try to stay away from shows like Countdown and Crossfire, just because I like my IQ where it is, and when I see crap like that, I can feel my brain oozing away. This is yet another example of the private industry versus the public. What it boils down to is this: do you want private business to support the candidates they want to support, and to support the issues that they want to support, or would you rather everybody be taxed more and political candidates spend the millions upon millions of dollars spent on every campaign out of the public treasury? I sure as hell want some choice in the matter. And you're right, that's another thing that isn't mentioned much -- how much of Obama's campaign contributions come from where. You know, companies like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Citigroup, UBS, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley ... those ring a bell? Yeah, Obama got at least three mil from those companies combined. And those were the companies that got bailed out -- with nearly a trillion dollars in American tax money. My brother pointed something out on Facebook, as well -- when Obama gets $347,000 from moveon.org, a far left-wing, anti-Capitalism, anti-American organization, they're just showing their support. But when Sarah Palin got a bouquet of flowers from a citizen of the town she was a mayor of, she's corrupt. Gotta love the media, huh?
Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum. I smell liberal lies; I doubt you saw last night's episode of Countdown with Keith Olberman - I don't regularly watch it but I may check what good ol' crazy Keith is saying. Back on track, regarding last night's episode, Keith was commenting on the ruling by the Supreme Court's decision regarding corparations/unions/etc., and campaign contributions; Keith called the decision by Roberts this generation's Dread Scott Case and compared Robertson to Taney. Though what Taney's "Dread Scott" decision is a another huge thing that I won't get into detail. Anyhuma, Keith went on describing the end of freedom, democracy (the U.S is a Republic Keith), and that politicians would be bought and sold by corporations. Keith goes on to say that all the corporations would instill republican or conservative values and that we would become facist with Palin as president; Keith does forget that there are corporations (GE) and unions that also have a lot of pull but he can't mention them because they are liberal and they are "good". I shook my head at his silliness. He may put the clip on his website if you want to get the full scoop; it may take a couple of days if he decides to put the clip up.
I don't really take any medication when I'm sick because I have a hard time swallowing pills; my brain is like it needs to be chewed so my throat is like, "Brain said to chew that shit." And I'm like, "I must swallow it whole though. Dammit, I'll just survive it." Anyhuma, I'm going out with my gf to grab some grub. Peace.
I did my schoolwork, but not my homework. Now I'm having problems with it again, and today I was prescribed Ritalin ... hopefully that helps, in another week or so when it gets here. Got four prescriptions today. I don't care to be on drugs for physical stuff -- I'm more of a "I'm not in that much pain" kind of guy -- but with mental stuff, trying to push through it by oneself only makes it worse.
You didn't do you school work, homework, or both?
Sorry your girlfriend is down -- that's pretty BS about an outstanding debt (if there is one) keeping her from joining the Air Force. Tell her to go with the Army instead -- but make sure I get ahold of her info first, because I can help her enlist through the ARAP program and get two grand . Good that you're cooking for her, though. Good man. I've always enjoyed cooking, I just don't do it much. I never thought much about ADHD either, until a counselor told me that I had prettymuch every symptom, in one way or another. Confused me, because I was never "hyperactive" -- I didn't get in trouble in school for acting out or not sitting down or anything, I'd just not do my work. But it's definitely worsened by my military/combat experiences. Hopefully, I'll get some medication for it, and it'll help with schooling.
Right now I'm doing some cooking for my girlfriend; she has been pretty down lately with stuff going on in her life. There is some outstanding debt to Citi bank that is blocking her from getting into the Air Force. The problem is, she has never had an account with Citi, a credit or check card of Citi's and there are no Citi banks near us... Add problems with enrolling in class and she is pretty upset. I've been working a lot lately; the trucks coming into Macy's are everyday now, which is really killing us. Today we finally surrendered; we had hardly any equipment and no room. But I'm off tomorrow so I'm all good. I've wondered if I had something like ADHD but I've never acted upon it to see if I do or don't; I don't notice a problem nor does my family and friends so I suppose it is all good.
Ah, the usual. I've been off my meds for a little while now, so the depressing is coming back, and coming back hard -- add that to the ADHD, and I either don't care or can't remember to do something, and if I do care and remember, I can't do it well because my mind's all over the place. Got an appointment tomorrow, though, so that should help. What about you?
Hey, just stopping by seeing what's up.
