D= No one voted for it? Man... Ah well. Good to know that you've studied what was popular for that particular forum, so hopefully you'll fare better this time around. ^_^ I remember for a while that Zeromune had Megaman characters for his MSN avatar, though I think his personal preference was for Zero. So you're into the Megaman games now? I never played them myself, but they seem to be popular. Nice work on the avatar. Even better because it has lots of...GREEN!!! My favorite color. Oh, and if you think about it, I wouldn't mind seeing the contest when it gets underway. You can send me a link if you feel like it, but you don't have to. I just wanna see what goes on in other forums when they do contests like that...and to also see what you're up against. That's what the higher-ups seem to think. I can't wrap my head around all the technical talk, so hopefully once everything gets a tad bit more organized, they'll give updates in layman's terms so people like me can figure out what they have in store for the forums.
Thankies~! ^.^ I remember trying something completely lame last time and not getting votes. XD This time I'm just gonna go with the forum's banner bandwagon, I think. ^_^" And with that, I like Harpuia, so I'm just gonna use him as my avatar now. =) Yeah, I guess you're right. Hopefully it'll be better?
Yep. I think that's a good banner for your entry to the contest. I think it's a good size to have too, so I'm glad you kept it the same. Good luck to you! Well, they're just in the planning stages right now, so we don't know when things are actually going to get changed up. It could be a while, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Okeey, how's this, then? I went ahead and submitted it before the due date tomorrow. x3 I kept it as its original size, too, because I was lazy. I almost couldn't believe it when I saw what Loco posted about the things likely to disappear. >.> The VMs have always been my favorite thing about forums aside from members. I even got them active on another place last year. =3
Well, their loss on your first try. As for this one, I like how you're using a dark background. It makes the effects you used pop more. I do have one issue with it though: That thing that the red arrow is pointing to should probably be taken out, or darkened so it doesn't stick out so much. It detracts attention from the center, which is where the main focus of the banner is at. One more thing: I would do another semi-transparent render on the left side as well, to balance it out and to also make that area not seem so empty. EDIT:: Just noticed that the side border on the left side doesn't go all the way up to the top, but on the right it does. May want to adjust that as well. Other than those tiny complaints, I would say that you're doing a fine job, especially considering that you're not really used to working in the confines of a rectangular area. Yeah, it's going to feel a lot different once some of the features that I'm used to are stripped away from the site, but like you, I'll keep my mind open to the changes made, but hope that they find a way to keep the member interaction off the boards somewhat intact.
Thanks! =) But I've decided to try something else for that forum, since that's the place that doesn't seem to like my non-rectangular banners. ^_^" So, I made this instead (haven't entered it yet, though; wanted to wait for your advice first): Yeah...I've read that yesterday. =( I feel horrible knowing these VMs are probable to being gone. I mean, it's probably the most frequent use of communication online for me. I have it (mostly here) far more than MSN, and I did manage to keep a record, so it'll just suck losing it. I really do hope it'll stay, and I'll stay optimistic, though.
Nice work! Great use of colors, interesting use of the different shapes in the banner, and great renders. The only thing I have a concern about is the semi-transparent image on the left side of the banner. I would make it a bit more visible. I've said this before, but if you can't think of anything else to add, then you're done. Good luck to you when/if you enter! Oh, and one thing: I don't know if you've read up on the forum maintenance thread, but there's going to be some possible changes made...and from the looks of things, it seems that these visitor messages will be one of the things to go. Just thought I would let you know in case you haven't heard yet.
I was going to enter a banner contest on another forum with something like this, but I'm not so sure about its appearance. =3 I don't know what else to add or take away. =P
Nope, i've not given up on them yet! ^.^ Just...I think I need some tips from the pros before trying them again. ^_^" I know a place where everyone makes them, and they produce amazing ones (at less than 65 KB, might I add). Thankies~! =3 I'll be making it all shiny, too, of course. ^.~ Yep, I've beaten the game a loooong time ago, and now I'm grinding with the Adamantoises and Adamantortoises. Still, i haven't found much motivation to play games lately. I think maybe once summer vacation starts (in less than a month, now), I'll have a lot more motivation, since school will be off my mind. =) The Fifth Ark is so annoying. ._. You're so close to Gran Pulse, though, so stay strong! ^.^
D8 Oh man... Sorry to hear that. It looked like it would have been good, but I'm glad it was easy to fix. =) Hope you haven't given up on trying out rectangular banners. Oooh. I noticed that something was different when I was checking out my friends list. :3 I like the sunshine effect. It's nice. I'm doing okay. Nothing exciting to speak of though. How are you? Have you beaten FF XIII yet? I haven't... I'm still stuck in the 5th Ark... That place is sooo boring and tedious to get passed! I want someone to just jettison me to Gran Pulse so I can explore that place. xD
I couldn't finish the Utopia banner after all! xD It was so hard to fill up all the different spaces. >x3 But the typo was simple to fix, since it was a text layer and I still had the PSD file. However, it didn't completely go to waste. I incorporated it into my current avatar that is still unfinished. I just need to light up the bottom to balance out the intensity and brightness, then abstract around the focal. =3 I decided the light rays would act as sun on Sync's face instead. In any case, aside from graphics talk, how's life treating you? =)
Yeah, that typo stuck out once you mentioned it. I hope you're able to go back and fix it pretty easily. I would hate for you to have to go through all that work to correct a tiny mistake like that. I like it. It has a nice color scheme, interesting effects (the circles are lens flare, yeah? Or maybe bokeh?), and the top and bottom border make me think that I'm looking at a widescreen shot of a movie still. I like the sizing of it too. If I had to nitpick, it would be that I have an issue with that large dark area at the lower right corner. I dunno, but it just sticks out to me as a bit of a distraction compared to the rest of the work. It's like a dark void that draws my eyes to that particular area, and doesn't let me focus around the rest of the banner. I think you're doing a nice job working within a rectangular area. Bet it's fun to challenge yourself with this sort of thing when you're so used to working with abstracts and non-defined borders. Anytime you feel like showing me some of your work, I'll be more than happy to take a look and give you some feedback if you want it.
I tried my hands at the abstract-rectangle banner thing again. =3 It's nowhere near completion, but it's what I have so far if you're interested. =D The song is Utopia by Within Temptation, that's the video, she's Sharon den Adel, and I still have to add the "down on utopia" part at the bottom. x3 Hahaha, I just noticed a typo on there! XD
Yep. I still have my Sephiroth userbar you made for me in my siggy. I'm glad you've gained so much confidence with you work that you feel like you can take on numerous requests, and to also make gifts for people. ^^ I hope you aren't too bogged down though. I mostly use to zoom tool to make sure that my edges on my renders are clean, but it makes sense that it would be helpful when you work with small spaces. I'll keep your offer in mind, should I ever get the urge to try something different.
=) Besides, like I told him, it's much more rewarding to see other people use things you make and appreciated them than you complimenting your own work, you know? xD Actually, you have to zoom in a bit, so one pixel looks like a fifty-pixel square. Tell me if you ever wanna try it, though, and I'll have the link ready. =D
