There's a GIMPshop? =O That sounds pretty awesome! =D Boo, people all like keeping secrets. x3 Ooh, it's animated, too! I've always loved that part of your banners most. It makes it that much more different and unique. ^_~ Wait, how come now GIF is making your transparency messed up? Oh, that's another one, too! xD But thankies! There's also the thing where you blur the same capital letter behind the word. Text is so hard to master, though, isn't it? =( You have to get the placement and font just right, and the colors and stuff, too. >>
If people have GIMPshop downloaded, you can find a lot of the stuff that Photoshop offers, it's just a matter of executing it properly on my part. If I had any advice to give I would have definitely posted. I'm linking it, because I don't want to take up too much space on your page. This one doesn't have the font added in, because I wound up not liking how plain it was added on. Every time I tried to do something fancy though, the gif format wouldn't let me do it. I can't explain it very well, but this is more or less what I thought you were talking about. Basically, I sort of had the idea of what you were getting at, just didn't realize that you also meant that the capital letter of the entire word was used again. Nice. I think that little example turned out well.
I really need a sort of translator between Photoshop and GIMP. xD The one where you reduce the opacity of the brushes behind to give depth is one of my favorites, plus it's one I'm sure requires no "translator" in GIMP. ^_~ A help thread? That's a good idea; that way people can ask others how to do certain techniques. =) I'll edit it in, but my thread's gonna get pushed back since no one's sharing anything but me. x3 Nuuu, I wanna see. I can't remember what it was besdies Riku. Hahaha, what did you think I was talking about? ^.~ Oh, and the thing I said where you stuff on design to cover up your text is something like this: You start out with text like this: http://i43.tinypic.com/14illvl.jpg Then you put on the brushes: http://i40.tinypic.com/2zdoj6a.jpg You look for the edges that are off (red means erase and blue means brush more to cover): http://i44.tinypic.com/2nj8u44.jpg So you get something that's kind of covered up and looks more natural: http://i43.tinypic.com/6egffo.jpg Though, you should avoid having too many sharp edges, which I had. ^_^"
I read through it a couple of times. Still gotta adapt your techniques in photoshop so I can use basically the same idea for GIMP, but that's just going to take practice on my part. You think your tip thread could double as sort of a help thread as well? I have a banner made, but I'm stuck about the font... Might be nice to get a couple of different opinions about what I could do. If you're curious, here's what I've been working on ever since you passed along those tips: EDIT:: Took it out because I just used KH font. Meh. It works. Hey, I like that a lot! I actually had a different idea of what you were talking about, so thanks for the image! Yeah, I like that logo that Evanescence uses, but I still am not that good at mixing and matching fonts.. Getting better with practice though.
Well, I couldn't get the thread's name verbatim, but hey, I got something, at least. xD I'm not so good at that technique, actually. =P I know of it, but it's the font that's faded that I have trouble with. Well, I got a bit bored, so: HAHAHA. x3 It'd be good if the faded one was more visible, though. Something else that's good is if you have a simple font and then directly lay on brushes on the same color so it merges. It gives it some nice design, but the main part is that it makes each letter different, making it more unique and creative. I mean, look at Evanescecne's logo. Perfect example (aside from the design part).
I'm going to try out some of your hints later on, and if that thread does get started, I'll show off what I have done. Hmm.. I'll have to try that font tip out! Sounds simple enough that I can do it, but also sounds like it would be elegant as well! Nah, you don't have to. I think I got the idea of what your saying. My problem is thinking of a good font combination to use, but since you said stick to a more simple font for the lowercase letters, that gives me an idea of what I can do.
Ooh, I totally should! xD We need one of those "share your GFX techniques" thread, but I asked Violet about it a little earlier tonight. =3 Glad you got some use of it, though (hopefully x3). ^_~ Oh, apprentices! <3 Welcome on board. Font effects? Well, there's a lot of different ones, but something I've picked up that's extremely easy to do but kind of cool is to have an easy-to-read font as the main text and then have the first capitalized letter as another more fancy font faded in the back. I'll make an example if you want. =3
Nice! That would come in handy for people who need some pointers on how to do different effects. People like me! I appreciated that you showed this to me. I should try some of these out and see if I can do this sort of thing with GIMP. You should start a thread about this. Call it "Fate's Fabulous Photoshop Tips" or something. And also, if you ever decide to take on "apprentices" or whatever, I would totally be on board to learn what you have to teach! Especially if you have some pointers about how to do different font effects. I really need practice in that department.
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/2775/87459802.jpg I typed it up on another forum and took a screenshot if you wanted to see. =) They're random tidbits on some stuff that I use on my banners a lot in case anyone was wondering. ^_^" ::EDIT:: One of these days, I'll write a tutorial on something, too, I think. =)
Well, I'm glad that you're at least giving it a shot, and good on ya for getting some votes! I agree. They need to make up their minds about what they want in banners. When you brought in your different and unique style, they didn't care for it, and when you adapted to the style that they're used to, they still complained. It seems that there really is no winning with those people. I'm with you. I don't want the VMs to go, because it is nice to have this sort of communication among the members and not have to go through the tedium of getting an MSN account (or whatever), setting it up, finding people who have the same thing and then communicating like that. There's also time zones that you gotta factor in. VMs help with this, because you can leave a message on their page, and when they sign on, they see it, whereas when you have an Instant Messenger, you gotta wait until they're on at the same time as you to chat it up. Well, that was a little more long-winded (or long-typed) than I wanted it to be.
Yep, told you they were picky! xD I think smudging is definitely a win there, and the displacement filter. X3 Hey, at least I got a couple votes this time around. =D Personally, I think those people are just being too hard; not that they're so great, either. =P Well, you can't have a community, either, without people actually knowing each other, right? I don't think most people are gonna take the time to e-mail each other or ask for random MSN address just for that reason. =3 It's not Facebook or Myspace, but no communication isn't exactly what a forum is, either. ^_^"
Thanks for the link! Well, I took a look-see at the contest... Seems to be a lot of entries to choose from! And yeah, there's definitely a "favored style" that most of the contestants like to use, though I notice that some people were complaining that there was none that really stood out when they cast their vote. Well, the argument about "socializing should always be one of the main priorities on the forum" is that a lot of the higher-ups complain that it makes it too much like a Myspace or Facebook type of thing, and that's not what a forum is for.
That was before I learned the forum's tastes, I guess. =P And even now, I've totally forgotten something else about the place. XX I forgot that they like the simple, "elegant" effects rather than the insanely sharpened glowing effects. Yep, I especially liked the Battle Network series, which I've played all one through six. ^___^ Hey, you remembered my grammar lessons! =D Sending it right away! (The site was under maintenance for a little while before.) Hahaha, yeah, me, too! xD I can hardly understand anything they're saying, so I'm like, "What's different about this and that or those?" =P Well, socializing should always be one of the main priorities on a forum, is what I think, since it's an online community and a community is nothing if the people don't even talk to each other. =S
Well, at least you tried. Nothing wrong with getting your feet wet before diving in! Well, the contest just started, yeah? You still have time to pull in some voters. :3 Oh, I totally didn't know that you've been a fan this whole time! Learn something new every day, I suppose. Haha... If you want to be secretive like that, then sure. Hit me up with a PM! Glad I'm not the only one! =D I felt dumb when reading all the technical jargon. xD I'm pretty sure that it will be, though it may take some time to get used to everything, but that's to be expected when changes are made.
Hahaha, it was a monochromatic thing (which wasn't even that good, to be honest), so I wasn't surprised. xD Not faring entirely well this time, either, because the other people are really good. ^_^" (I don't like some of them, though, but the others have very nice flow and effects.) Naw, not into them "now." I've loved the games for years. =3 And, well, since Harpuia's always been my favorite (and Forte), I made something of him. ^.~ GWEEN! 8D Sure, I'll send you a link if you want! ^.^ Though, I'll probably throw it in a PM, just to keep people out? =P I like being mysterious like that. xD Yeah, I get lost reading everything in there, too. XX I really hope the "user friendly" thing Loco was talking about really is user friendly.
