  1. Well I need wool, for example for some crafts, but an ingredient needed is beasthide which isn't sold but dropped and I haven't ran into any lately.

I'm liking it better than FF Tactics as well.
  2. And that you can buy a lot of the base ingredients? I've crafted heaps already; and the only thing stopping me from doing more is the occasional shortage of one item, and avaialble funds vis-à-vis buying entirely new weapons, as well as lack of motivation, because it's so repetitive, and is just an iterative process of turning money into upgraded weapons (when you should just be able to fork over cash...).

But still, I think this game is awesome. Better than Tactics, even.
  3. I know that some ingredients require crafting but I don't have their ingredients to craft at all or in the amount I need. Some of the base stuff I haven't seen yet.

The save may be for "purists" who don't want to save & reload as they see that as slightly "cheating". That's what I can come up with. Good thing is it doesn't take that long to reload.
  4. You know that most of the ingredients themselves require crafting, right? It's kind of irritating to be honest, buying the simple ingredients just so you can make a higher-tier ingredient -- why can't they just offer the higher-tier ingredient for sale?

The issue of failing is also irritating. I'm sure everyone with half a brain would work out they can just save and try again -- so why have a fail rate at all? It's just time-consuming, especially given the game is already time-consuming by its very nature.
  5. Oh forgot about that part. Yeah, I've done some bit of crafting. I save before the actual crafting that way if it fails I just load the file up & retry. I'm glad that is simple enough to do. Right now though I don't have much of the ingredients required to craft most of the stuff in the beginning books. Not that I can't buy the ingredients, I have plenty of money, just that they haven't dropped or been available for purchase.
  6. Yeah, I tried a few debuffs, but I don't think I used sleep. Seems pretty simple actually haha. There was some other level, rescuing a dragoon I think? I tried a lot, taking the flying guy, not giving him any equipment unless it made him faster, and even using a slinger (...or whatever it is; the 'weapon' that lets you fling items at range), but they just overpowered her.

You didn't answer my question about weapon-upgrading and recipes
  7. I was able to keep Ravness alive by putting her asleep for a part of the battle. I had like a 33% chance and it worked.

Right now there is only 1 ninjitsu ability that is worthwhile that causes bind. Normally it has a low success rate but the skill Concentration (40 TP) causes a 100% success rate for any ninjitsu skill. The elemental damage ninjitsu's are pretty weak. You also have to buy the fans needed for a Swordmaster's abilities as well. So far there is a mass 25 Hp heal for the caster and allies nearby & another one that raises attack for allies in radius. Swordmasters have a pretty good natural evasion/dodge and with their ability Pre-empt it allows them to strike first for full damage coupled with counter-attack they are pretty good defensively.

Archers are damn powerful in the game even though their speed & mobility were lowered in order to balance. However with their ridiculous range the enemy more than likely make their way. With multiple archers they can take care of pretty much a lot of stuff. I only use 1 cause I like some diversity in my units.
  8. ...Your last paragraph just made my life whole lot less complicated.

I struggled in that battle with Ravness, and ended up killing her out of frustration. Turns out that has meant I have lost the opportunity to recruit her later on. I think I may start a new game once I get gaming time back.

I'll be trying out ninja as soon as possible, though the idea of having to purchase items in order to use their special abilities is rather annoying.

I'm a big fan of the weapon upgrading system. Have you been using the recipes much? I find that the bows get pretty powerful really fast, and their special effects are useful. I use two archers (well, one archer, and that winged guy (forgot his name), with a one-handed bow and an axe) for that reason.
  9. I guess the somewhat completionist within me wants me to have every class available. I would have liked to acquire the classmarks through drops but those can be tough to get so I recruited some characters. Dragons are pretty good so far though I read on Gamefaqs they aren't so good later on - I'll see. Griffons have better mobility and agility than dragons so they are able to strike quickly.

Ninja's are really OP with Dual-Strike. My ninja wasn't too thrilled with me,. loyalty wise, but with the Fool & Lovers cards plus ranking up my daggers skill helped increase loyalty to the next level.

Plot is good so far with plenty of political maneuvering and character development like Ravness/Raveness however you spell her name. I like how in the Warren Report you can unlock hidden areas like the Phorampa Wildwoods. Basically once there is new stuff in the Warren Report to go over it is best to do it immediately cause some of the stuff has to be looked over before certain points in the story.

You could wait to finish the game to go back & play certain parts of the story with your current party levels/equipment/skills with the World System. It unlocks with beating the game for the first time. I haven't gotten to another major decision yet though I feel one is coming up and probably has the game goes along there will be more.
  10. You're further than I am in that case. I think I just got my first ninja classmark, but it's been weeks since I've played. I have only done five or so non-story battles, and in these games I always keep a small team, so I haven't done any recruiting, and actually released one member. I find it easier to concentrate my experience and equipment, given I do few additional battles.

I haven't got any monsters yet though. I think I only have two characters who even have an ability that enables that, and they haven't coincided with a good opportunity. I really want a dragon though, they strike me as being pretty useful.

How are you finding the plot? I'm in the second chapter (...I think?), and kept my save before the first major branching of the plot. I'm going to play this chapter through twice before I go onto the next chapter -- one for each scenario. I imagine the branching will get out of hand at some stage, but I know that I probably won't replay the game to experience all the different branches unless I do it this way.
  11. Pretty good. Haven't gotten too far. I've been messing around in the Phorampa Wildwood a lot getting Dragoons, Ninjas, Swordmasters units/classmarks plus some equipment for them. Also got a faerie rogue 5 dragons & a griffon so I've been spending my time getting those people up to my party's average level. Will be continuing the story soon when I play it next.
  12. Oh? How's it going so far? I haven't played in a while. With exams on-going, I have little gaming time, and with the 30+ minute minimum required for a battle, I don't pick this up. I could use quicksave... but who uses quicksave?
  13. You will be glad to hear that I picked up Tactics Ogre tonight. Along with FFIV: Complete Collection. Haven't started either yet. Most likely won't tonight as I have a job interview tomorrow morning at 9am.
  14. I'm not going to make any profound pronouncements. Gbabgo is still held in the hotel in which he was captured. And he wasn't exactly commanding an army. He had (armed) people in support of him, fighting (armed) people in support of Ouattara. They never had competent military leadership.

As it stands, this changes little. But I'm willing to be proven wrong. I hope I'm proven wrong.
  15. Hear about Gbabgo getting arrested by French forces in Ivory Coast. I'm surprised that anybody outside did something. I know a U.N. security force was patrolling one town, but to actually take measures to oust a defiant loser in the past elections. Quite stunning. Now things should settle down there.
