Yeah I got it to work, I don't know what went wrong, but I tried it again and opened the lid whilst it was still going and gave it another wipe, put it back in and it started working about 5 seconds later, so yay. I'm at the Iifa tree at the mo, for the 2nd time.

I dedcided to play FF9 again, and I'm 3 hours into the game, in Dali where I'm about to go into the windmill but whenever I go in the game stops working , nothing is happening and I dunno what is wrong, the music is still playing like normal and the disk i sstill moving but the screen just stays black. I've become obssesed with trying to make the game work again lol What fire?? I've not heard about that.
If it's the Chancery Lane fire n London, I already heard. So sad...
