Ha. I don't actually hang out there a lot, although I think Portlandia is accurate in describing the more eccentric inhabitants. There is definitely an eccentric portion of the population.

Your post reminded me that I downloaded a Vaccines album and haven't listened to it much yet. First album I've gotten by them, too. I should get into this stuff. Pop Punk and Ska Punk is starting to all sound the same.
