Riki! I haven't talked to you in a while. How are you?
I thought you liked string cheese in potatoes...?! Why were we talking about string cheese again? I would but shredded cheddar in my potatoes though. Potato soup is usually a pretty thick and creamy soup though. The one I had seemed pretty milk based, a lot like the clam chowder also in my area. It's rich and great with crackers. The one I was thinking of took a few hours. Usually 2-3. Depended on the size of the bird itself, obviously. I'd say it's somewhat faster than an oven... but I would never leave a full bird in there for half an hour and pray I don't catch some horrible disease. Aren't they supposed to slice the fish up for sushi?! What kind of sushi place served whole fish on rice?! You'd think that would have been the first clue. I think the remote island was Jurassic Park 3. It can't be one... and I never saw 2. Pretty sure it's the third though. The latest one! That reminds me of this video I'm pretty comodo dragons in areas are shrinking because of lack of food though. They can't be huge since the quantity of food wouldn't support them. Same with many species and why we don't have 10 foot dragonflies, I'm sure. I'm guilty of using lol offline. Jokingly mind you... but that's where everything starts. Soon we won't be laughing anymore. Someone will tell a joke and it'll just be one drawn out, "LAAAWWWWLLLLL!!" They somehow managed to make Google into a verb, but... I think that's sort of on the level of how parents ask their kids about their new Nintendo, even if it's a Playstation. And then parents started calling Nintendo systems Playstations. I wonder if there's been a new, long-lasting word in our language lately. For some reason just having sushi on rice seems more appetizing to me than rolls. I think it's because seeing a fillet as opposed to something more ground up lets me identify it as fish easier. I'm not used to sushi in general though. Still, handling ground meat by itself makes my stomach churn too, even when it's cooked. But the moment it's made into a hamburger or a meatloaf it looks DELICIOUS. I have no idea where lobsters are better, honestly. There's a fair chance I haven't even eaten one. My parents don't like seafood so I don't get it too often. Plus it's expensive! I wonder what place is known for fresh, cheap lobster though. Is California sinking? I thought it was splitting off? Then it'd become its own nation and ruled by the Governator. That's as much as I've heard though. We're more worried about the next big quake. I had no idea that MSG was monosodium glutamate, haha. Wiki's saying now that some scientist wrote a book which stated that MSG isn't harmful to most, even in large amounts. But it seems to even be in soy sauce...? I wonder if this is part of the reason why I find a lot of asian cooking to have such intense flavors. Our VMs shall now pierce the heavens! Oh, on a side note, are you interested in RPing and Factions?
Really? You put string cheese in your potatoes? I've never had potato soup. In fact, I've never even heard of such a thing until now. =P Is it bad like tomato soup? I can't stand that stuff. How fast is that rotisserie thing? That thing in the infomercial only took about half an hour, which is pretty amazing. And it cooks anything, not just chicken. Too bad I can't remember the name. Haha. That reminded me of a video I saw on AFV. Some people went to eat sushi, but the cook left the fish UNDEAD, as in NOT DEAD YET. Just as they were about to put their forks in, the fish wriggled around! I can't remember. It was the one where I rich British family was vacationing on a remote island, where the little daughter wandered off into the forest and saw a little dinosaur, which she fed roast beef to. Then, a whole pack of them came and bit her. Komodo dragons can shrink? I think some words got changed far too much. Like how in the old times, "ass" meant a donkey, but now, people would just laugh if they heard it used that way. Some words are way overused. "Gay" no longer means happy, and so forth. Pretty soon, they'd better start making new words! I saw a Mad TV episode once where they introduced the verb LOL into Webster's dictionary. =P I like the rolls more, though. They're easier to pick up. And they stick more. The fish keeps falling off on the other one. Ah, they are, aren't they? They have a tiny island surrounded by water. Wait, lobsters are better in the Atlantic, right? So the eastern coast would have the cheap, delicious ones? Speaking of which, you heard about the sinking of California, right? Is it really happening? Monosodium glutamate, or MSG, is a substance that the Japanese, I believe, created to enhance the taste of food. However, is it highly poisonous, so too much of it would not be good for you at all. Almost all Asian cooking uses MSG, really. We have purged the VM curse! Yay for us!
I thought you put string cheese in potatoes! Though people do add cheese to their potatoes with other spices a lot, in places of gravy. That's more or less the basis for some potato soups. And potato soup is goooood. I usually wouldn't trust boxed stuff but... for gravy, maybe. Ah yeah, those rotisserie oven things. They're small, but they work. We owned one. I think the oven gives you more flexibility in the way you cook it though. With the rotisserie oven it just spins spins spins. I honestly think we would be able to eat most things if we didn't actually have a live version of the same animal right next to it. Probably even turtle or something. I mean, cows are pretty cute! And frogs and turtles are too... I wouldn't eat one if I just saw them. When I go to a supermarket it's sad to see like 5 lobsters crammed into a tiny tank. But lay it out in front of me with some butter and I probably won't hesitate to dig in. That aside, rabbit supposedly isn't that good for you. It's hard to digest and can lead to starvation if it's a main part of your diet. Which Jurassic Park were the little dinosaurs from. >.> I think dinosaurs may exist somewhere... but probably not amazingly huge ones. Comodo dragons are still around, but I think the average size is becoming smaller. Not enough food is causing them to shrink. Probably part of the reason why the number of super huge (land) animals has gone down. Pretty funny huh? Hahahaha. It was probably just slang originally. I doubt people at the time were trying to come up with a scientific classification and noticed that the birds were very plump toward the back end. >____> Just think, any scientific classification could be really silly. Elephant could be latin for "big nose" or something! I think that's typically what you see in Japan. Our rolls are more westernized... I think. Supposedly the fish-to-rice ratio is much higher over there than here, too. Probably because they're near water in most places and we're... not. LA may be cheaper, but I still don't think we're close enough. I keeping hearing that the quality just isn't that great. Supposedly just the fact taht they have to ship it from the port is bad enough... and probably expensive, so they don't. And you wonder why rich people airlift lobster or such. That sounds amazingly disgusting... especially the second way. I wonder if it's safe to just pinch off their fangs, since I bet they still have venom sacs in their somewhere. Is the alcohol in wine supposed to kill the poison or something...? Probably not. I remember hearing monosodium glutamate in an Animaniacs song a long, long time ago, haha, but I have no idea what it is. But regardless, could you really bear to eat something that's still wriggling around in your mouth...? Hooray for suggestions! Suggestions are JUSTICE! Suggestions are LOVE!
Cheese in your potatoes? Potatoes have cheese in them? My mom made mashed potatoes once from the box, but that was... not completely a success. It was so bland, even with some gravy. It is possible to cook a chicken in something besides an oven. I saw an infomercial once for some sort of ultra cooker that can cook anything. They just stuck the whole turkey in there to cook in far less time than it took for the oven to cook it. See, my teacher made a point about that. She asked why humans can bear to eat the ugly animals like cows and such but not cute ones. It's like if we eat them, we threaten to endanger them, resulting in a less cute environment. Still, there are some people - hunters - who eat rabbits. My sister loves rabbits, and when she was about to eat rabbit, she felt so sad. However, she was responsible for eating nearly half the pan! I didn't get to eat a single piece. I do wonder what could be on some of those stranded islands. Maybe they are like Jurassic Park, with all the little dinosaurs biting you when you try to give them roast beef and stuff. Does it really translate to "fat-arses?" I find that difficult to believe. Never mind, I just looked it up. I can't believe that was the etymology... He made the ones with the fish on top of the rice. There was grilled eel on one type and the filleted fish on the other one. I never asked him about fugu, though. But I probably wouldn't want to eat it, either... I would think that a state near the ocean would have seafood for really cheap, because you can just fish for them if you wanted to. Here in Colorado, we're surrounded by mountains and no water, so that makes it pretty hard. And expensive. I saw it in a video once. They catch a tarantula, pinch off its fangs, take it back to the village to fry it up with some spices. I think monosodium glutamate was a vital one... Then they just eat them, and they sound crunchy. The other kind, they soak a live one in wine, and when they eat it, I saw its legs still moving... Wow, I've never been able to type this much in a Visitor Message before! Our suggestion worked!
When I made potatoes they came out pretty well. But then I made the gravy.. and that didn't come out so great. It was quite thick and gooey and too peppery. I don't want to remember it, hahaha. Although, if you have cheese in your potatoes do you really want to put anything else? Oh, no no no. I meant chicken breast in a pan! I'm not sure it's possible to look a whole chicken/turkey in a pan... or a microwave! =P I'd be scared to eat it afterwards too. I would probably catch salmonella or something. HAHAHAHA. You could always eat a whale or dolphin! Or uh... hmm. Buffalo? I'm not sure what's endangered these days. Are you sure you'd want to TASTE them though? They dodo supposedly didn't taste very good. Is there an animal you won't eat? Like a rabbit? Because it's so cute! "The Red Rail or Red Hen of Mauritius, Aphanapteryx bonasia, is an extinct rail. It was only found on the island of Mauritius. The Red Rail, which today is only known from a large number of bones, some descriptions and a handful of drawings and paintings, was a flightless bird, somewhat larger than a chicken (about 50 cm). Its plumage was reddish brown all over, and the feathers were fluffy and hairlike; the tail was not visible in the living bird and the short wings likewise also nearly disappeared in the plumage. It had a long, slightly curved, brown bill and comparatively (for a rail) long legs. Altogether, it resembled a lean kiwi more than a rail." "The rail was hunted to extinction in the century after its discovery. The dodo was considered rather unpalatable, and usually only killed out of curiosity or boredom, but the Red Rail was a very popular gamebird for the Dutch and French settlers. While it could usually make good its escape when chased, it was easily lured by showing the birds a red cloth, which they approached to attack; a similar behavior was noted in its relative, the Rodrigues Rail. The birds could then be picked up, and their cries when held would draw more individuals to the scene, as the birds, which had evolved in the absence of predators, were curious and not afraid of humans. As it nested on the ground, pigs which ate their eggs and young probably contributed to its extinction." It sounds like it was a more tasty dodo. The exact same thing happened to it. Though it sounds like it went extinct pretty easily. Maybe there's some other small island that has them. It'll be like Jurassic Park... minus the robots. Another interesting note. "the local name for the dodo, Todaersen (or dodaersen, "fat-arses")... plump-rumped..." Now that's a scientific name! That sounds too good. What kind of sushi did he made? The rolls or the ones on rice? Is he not good enough to make pufferfish? AND WHY DON'T I HAVE ANY SUSHI-MAKING COUSINS. That's pretty expensive. Though lobsters and such here are "market price," so we never buy them. Even if it were $3 a pound we probably wouldn't be able to afford it. I wish I could have some seafood now. Like shrimp, or salmon. Or even fish and chips. So hungry... I think they're RARE delicacies, but they've been eaten. I doubt many native Japanese can say they have, or there wouldn't be ANY whales and dolphins left. I suppose the Japanese are pretty healthy because of their seafood/tofu/veggie diet though. Plus they're pretty finnicky about how they eat their foods. Unlike... tarantulas. Ewwwwww. Is that supposed to be expensive and delicious? Does it crunch in your mouth? I guess it isn't much different from eating crab or something. Though don't people eat snakes too? There are some crazy foods out there... It's okay! Our conversations were never quite "there" to begin with, what with dolphins and dodos.
What is the Red Rail? Is it another extinct bird? Yeah! He brings out two whole dishes of sushi before we are even finished with the first one! For the first time, there were LEFTOVER sushi. Though the puffer fish, I'd like to try once. But it has to be done by a really, really good chef. It's not the latter; it's the former. It's that expensive. Just six little pieces are $10. Yep. Colorado is nowhere near the ocean. Do you know how much lobsters well for here? It's about $5 a pound! They eat whales and dolphins, too? Take the Chinese, for example. They'd eat anything! But it's the Japanese who are the healthiest. And then we have Cambodia, which eats tarantulas... Wait, I got lost in the conversation...
Well, they do tell you that you should put butter or margarine into mash potatoes when making them. It tastes richer and a bit more salty. But then you'd need to make the gravy, too. Can't have mashed potatoes without that. Otherwise, it'd taste bland. You would have to use the oven if you wanted rotisserie chicken. Speaking of which, do you cook your Thanksgiving turkey in a pan, too? I'd love to see that! =D It would completely weight it down. Ah, so the dodo didn't run away from people. I wished I could have eaten dodo once before they died out. What other animals are endangered? I must try them! Like the black rhinoceros.
I bet it's about the same in terms of health... though it could be amazingly healthy, who knows! Just, "According to a persistent myth, century eggs are or once were prepared by soaking eggs in horse urine." Though it's probably not true. You're so lucky! I'm not sure I would try puffer fish either. Supposedly like 15 people die from eating it every year... or was that a few years back. Anyway, the number is so small, but you never know. Freaky. $10 for one roll chopped into six pieces? Or 6 rolls? The latter would be incredible I think, haha. I have no idea what the going prices are for the good stuff, or how good your stuff is. I think it may be cheaper because we're closer to the ocean being in LA, but... our fish supposedly is not that great anyway. Unlike San Francisco. I need to stop quoting wiki. I'm bringing this post split on myself.
However, journals are full of reports regarding the bad taste and tough meat of the dodo, while other local species such as the Red Rail were praised for their taste. However, when humans first arrived on Mauritius, they also brought with them other animals that had not existed on the island before, including dogs, pigs, cats, rats, and Crab-eating Macaques, which plundered the dodo nests, while humans destroyed the forests where the birds made their homes; currently, the impact these animals – especially the pigs and macaques – had on the dodo population is considered to have been more severe than that of hunting." So the bird was basically destroyed since it wasn't used to predators, heh. The thing about eel is probably true though... supposedly one type in Europe had its population drop by 80%. And the Japanese really seem to have a love affair with using/eating endangered species, haha. What with the whales and dolphins.
Mmm... cheesy potatoes. I've been wanting to make some mashed potatoes recently. Now I know what to add to it. I wonder if it'll mix well considering how fluffy they tend to be. We should really make that thread some time though. I wonder how many cooks we have at TFF. I haven't actually made chicken in the oven. I tend to just cook it in a pan, haha. The only time I ever really used the oven for chicken was when I made it breaded. I just let it bake in there for like 50 minutes. At the halfway point we added some tomato sauce, and at the very end we added slices of cheese on top. It was great! I should try oven baking chicken though. Crispy~ Wiki says: "As with many animals that have evolved in isolation from significant predators, the dodo was entirely fearless of people, and this, in combination with its flightlessness, made it easy prey for humans.
Oh, so they're one and the same. I wonder how much difference it taste. Or how much of a boost in cholesterol it would have. I have a cousin who specializes in making sushi, so we bought unagi once for him to make sushi with it. Still, I wish that I was brave enough to try fugu, the pufferfish of Japan... It could be dangerous to make, though, because if the fish is too raw... I guess I could understand why it's so expensive in the first place. Where I live, the price of sushi doesn't seem to be going down any. I mean, they have wrapped up ones, six of them, for about ten dollars. YOU'RE MY HERO!!!
I have no idea what it's for, haha. Probably a ceremonial thing. It looks hard to make and takes a long time, too, so it must be of cultural significance. It looks so rotten... haha, but I'd still try it. Horse urine eggs seem to be what the Thai call century eggs! I could eat most animals as long as I know for certain it isn't dangerous to eat. Which is impossible to know until you've actually eaten it, haha. It's always that first leap of faith. I think I had eel once, but it was cheap. I need to sample the fine stuff so I have a scale to go by. A lot of my family doesn't like fish. And since it's raw, it just compounds onto the problem, haha. Nowadays sushi seems to be getting cheap though. Every shop I pass by is having 1/2 off sales, probably because of the economy. HERE I COME TO SAVE THE DAAAYYYY!
Heh heh. That's what's so annoying about this thing! Well, it tastes nothing like that, but it does look a little mushy, with pullable pieces... Ah, that's a good idea! No doubt it would be stickied. You could share your food experiences there. I would never cook chicken or eat chicken cooked in a microwave. It sounds to be not cooked enough in there. The oven is a lot better, because it crisps, too. That's strange. I guess the dodo died form people eating it, too? But then how come unagi is so common in stores, despite the fact that it's becoming endangered? These environmentalists are lying, probably.
You caught me halfway, I completely edited my post, haha. String cheese in mashed potatoes... that's a description I have never heard before. Nor tasted. I should try it! Which reminds me that we need a recipe thread/cooking thread or forum on TFF. My parents once told me we could cook chicken in there. The idea makes me sick, hahaha. Using the microwave for any sort of cooking is strange to me. It takes so long, and you might as well just get a pot boiling or heat a pan. I don't think they sell those eggs at a regular market. Supposedly the ostrich itself is becoming endangered. Most are in parks and zoos, or something. If you got your hands on an ostrich, would you just take a big bite? When it's LIVE?
