  1. Hehe, isn't it good to collect things though? Do you collect anything? You'd think a cartoonist would be a more cheery chappy, wouldn't you? xD

    I have read about them getting paid to say nice things, but not that people have lost their job over saying not-nice things! That's just terrible. :/ And the whole point of reviews is to help people decide if they want a game as well...almost puts you off ever wanting to write for big sites. It's just getting paid to lie. o_o

    I'm not really into handhelds, my PSP was most welcome when I did have a job, though. The only games I got through on a handheld purely at home was Crisis Core, Dissidia, and Loco Roco. Aww....they have pointed edges? That's really bad. I hope your hands don't hurt too much. :/

    Haha...why did I think they were chicken...Gawd, I get hungry reading some of your replies. x3 It's nice to find somebody who also loves food.

    Aw, thank you! It feels so very good. I mean I went from utterly hopeless to being something like "okay". I did for a while. Usually I'm too nervous becuase people tend to be horrid online...but there was a trophy for winning 5 matches in a row, so....^^;
    It was weird. I thought I'd struggle with that, but I got it first try!

    I LOVE playing with my friends online, does that count? ^^; None of them really wanna play with me no more, though. Apparently I got too much better than them....I had a friend rage quit on me not long ago, ugh.

    I had so much fun beating in those randoms, but after that I was too chicken to try again for some reason. I fought maybe 12 matches against randoms. I just think I'd feel awful if I got a hate message, becuase unfortunately I tend to take everything to heart. >_>;

    I usually play with Dante, Chun-li and Akuma at the moment, but I'm never happy with my team, so that will probably change. I used to be very destructive with Dante (he is one of the better characters), but I've gotten a lot weaker with him. Might have to kick him off the team.

    Do you play some Marvel, big sis? Or are maybe interested in it? Your questions seem to suggest that. I'd love to play it with you if you ever get the chance!

    The Adamantoise? Yup! Sometimes takes that silly girl a while to hit with death, but it does work. Apparently putting other bad stats on it first is supposed to increase the chances. Slow/curse/deshell/deprotect/imperil. The Long Gui are immune, though. So are the Shaolong Gui.

    Paa...tootie? I never heard that word for (ass?) it before! xD

    I noticed something! Will help if you are ever as silly as me and go hunting. You know how the lizard map puts those lizard icons on the map? The lizards are almost always on the very tip of the icons tail. Oh, the ground seems to make lizard-protecting barriers at some angles...x3 They are kinda nippy, don't worry!

    Do you have an HD TV? Man, it really looks good. And if you happen to have the choice between cables that are better for brighter colours, and cables that are better for more natural looking colours, go for the bright ones. :3 You'd think natural would better better on that game, but nooo.

    Oh, and the sound seems noticeably improved on the HD version. <3 I hope you get the chance to pick it up soon, lassy!

    Man, I think I wrote a lot this time....^^;
  2. I don't really have all that many, tbh. I just tend to hold on to the ones that I do get for whatever reason. I wonder how many hoarders start off like that? I will never get that bad though...I hope. xD The guy who coined that term was a cartoonist, but I can't think of his name, nor the title of the book that I read it from. :/ Ah well.

    Do you think those big gaming sites get some kind of compensation for writing rave reviews for less-than-stellar games? I recall a bit of a controversy from a while back when a reviewer wrote a bad critique about a game on a big gaming news site (maybe even in a magazine), and he lost his job because of it.

    Oh yeah. TWEWY is really good. Do you like handheld gaming at all? I have been playing my DS more and more, though it does hurt my hand if I play for too long. Must be the pointed edges. I'd like to try the 3DS sometime, though I don't think I'd buy it.

    Reese's Pieces are like M&Ms, but with peanut butter in the middle. They're what Elliot fed to E.T. when he was trying to get the alien to come out of the shed thing he was hiding in. I haven't had those candies in forever, but they're sooo good! Heh... America does have a penchant for burgers and junk, eh? We wouldn't be so damn fat otherwise.

    Nice work! I bet it feels good to know how much you've improved, and congrats on the plats! Do you do online fights at all in MvC 3? And what's your favorite team/characters to play as? Deadpool seems to be really popular with a lot of the online crowd.

    That strategy works with the biggest turtle monsters too? Hmmm... I might give it another go, once I beat Titan's trials. Some of those monsters are a right pain in the patootie. ><

    It doesn't help that those lizards are damn fast too, and seem to be impervious to arrows, or maybe I was a bad shot? I'm thinking the latter. xD I watched the VGA guys play the first 3 or so hours of SotC late last night, and it looks pretty great, especially after hooking up my PS2 today and playing that version for a bit after who knows how long.
  3. Don't be sorry! I'm more impressed than anything.

    Whoa, you, you must have piles of magazines if you've kept them since back then! That seems like good advice, but what an odd name. Kinda makes you wonder what sort of a person wrote the book, doesn't it?

    You're welcome. I hope that if you do, then it makes you feel better about everything.

    That's true. Dislike those reviewers on big sites that always give certain series automatically high scores and shining reviews. Even if the game is fairly bad.

    I've never played it myself, but I'd seen and heard of it before. Though, that part was new on me...

    Ah, so the fetch quest was actually a jab at the industry? Shame they made it an extra mean one, but that's still awesome, hehe. I never really read-up on the game, but a lot of people seem to like it..

    I think you'd be dead. xD But who knows? Maybe if you wore some purdy gloves with lights on...<3 Me neither, not since I was tiny. Reese's Pieces are chicken, right? We don't get them here. Boooo. One day I wanna go to America and eat the yummy food. Something tells me you guys will have better burgers and things.

    I guess Demon's Souls becuase everybody bitches about how hard it is, but my most proud one is my Marvel vs Capcom 3 platinum. I know it's supposed to be an easy game, so that might seem a weird one to be proud of...but! One of the trophies is to do 320 challenges. The challenges are just character-percific combos that get harder as you go along, it's the only trophy that is hard and it puts most people off even thinking of getting the platty.

    I'm most proud of that one becuase at first I couldn't even beat the characters mission/combo 5 (any of the characters fith mission out of ten). ^^; I was that sucky at fighting games. But now I have beaten a lot of their 10th combos/missions. So I guess that platinum represents the most effort and biggest increase in skill.

    I still suck at fighting games, but now at least I can do combos. ^^; It seems to have really helped my speed and trained my eyes. That game used to look really fast, but now I can track what's going on pretty easily.

    Haha, I platted FFXIII! I sat on my exercise bike whilst doing the stupid/boring stuff. I think that's the secret to platting that game if you don't have the patience. Aww...those big ones aren't so bad. Get Vannile in your party, summon her pervy robot thing so the turtle falls over (why do they do that?), then spam death.

    That's cool, it's nice to know there are some plats that don't ask you to do anything stupid, just to enjoy all of the story.

    Yeah, seems a little bananas, I'll probably try it at some point. I feel it's mocking me a little. Cheers, think I will have to look for shorties on the ICO one. Shadow of the Colossus asks you to find all the lizards for its hardest trophy (imo), I thought that sounded easy becuase you get a lizard map after beating certain time-attacks, but nooo. even with the map I can't find a lot of them... ^^;
  4. EDIT:: Whoa... Sorry about this book I sent. Didn't realize that I typed so much @_@

    I remember seeing an advert for Wild Arms, but alas, I did not play it. Seemed really neat though, and I think I really liked the look of a couple of characters. I probably still have the magazine where I saw it somewhere in my collection. I like keeping stuff like that around because I can reference it for drawings. One of my old art books said that keeping stuff like that around is called having an "art morgue", which is a rather...morbid way of putting it.

    I should do something like that. I'll give it some thought. Thanks for the suggestion.

    It's all good. Being critical is pretty much a necessity for a reviewer. Can't sugarcoat things all the time, especially when it comes to an entertainment medium that is quite pricey for a lot of people (time and money-wise). Good to be able to tell exactly what someone is in store for. And oh yeah... I didn't count on you getting review copies of games, though I suppose I should have suspected as much.

    Heh.. Speaking of jokes about poo, have you ever played a game called Conker's Bad Fur Day? I haven't, but a buddy of mine here on TFF has, and it was his first M-rated game. Well, it's pretty much the definitive game for toilet humor, and trying waaay too hard to be funny. I was "fortunate" enough to be sent a clip of the game, and well....here it is for you if you'd like to see what I was shown. I don't blame you if you don't watch it though. It's really dumb.

    I don't mind some fetch quests if they provide a little something to the backstory or gameplay, though they're hardly a favorite aspect of games. But yeah, in general, it's just something to make a game feel longer. In "The World Ends With You", there's a particularly annoying one that's about finding a missing microphone, and when you complete it, the main character says that it was "a detour from hell". xD It's like game developers know they're tediously annoying, but put them in anyway. I love TWEWY though. There's quite a few jabs at the gaming industry, but affectionately so.

    Hahaha. Yeah, I didn't think so, but it'd be neat if you could somehow. Maybe if you had some unfortunate nuclear radiation accident you could, but then I'm sure there would be much bigger things to worry about if that happened. Lol @ E.T. playing the kinect xDDD I haven't seen that movie in ages, but I always wind up with the biggest craving for Reese's Pieces when I think about it. :B

    Wow. That's quite a collection. Which games are your most proud platinum achievement? I tried to plat. in FF XIII, but I do not have the patience for it. ^^; I did manage to finally take down an Adamantoise, and was really proud of myself for a bit, but then found out that once you defeat the Titan Trials (or whatever they're called), an even BIGGER and MORE DIFFICULT turtle monster thing appears.... I was like "no thank you" and decided to move on.

    I got the plat. on HR because I wanted to see all the scenarios/endings without resorting to youtube. It's also pretty easy to get trophies in that game, though admittedly, I had to use a guide for the "bear trial". You have to follow a specific driving pattern, and if you mess up once, you don't earn your trophy. Any other trophies I earn are either by accident, story-related, or I'll go out of my way to get if they're something I think will be an interesting gameplay addition, like taking pictures in Bioshock. That was actually pretty handy in the long-run, and I totally skipped out on it on my first playthrough.

    Wow... Just two hours? I thought I was being quick when I beat the game in one sitting (~ 3 and a half hours). That wasn't my first playthrough, btw. Heh... I was soooo lost the first time playing that game, but the game was gorgeous, so I didn't mind.

    Do you hit up any sites that gives helpful hints for getting trophies? PS3trophies.org is really handy, and they're good to hide the more spoileriffic trophies within a drop menu. They might have some ideas as how to get that ICO trophy.
  5. Yeah, it seems bizarre, and the fellow said it wasn't all that easy to find, either. I wonder what made them think that would be a good idea? Just so it would be something different? It's a real shame, the first shots of the game had me all excited. I can't think of many games with an old-west setting, and most the ones that I can think of were daft. I'm sure somebody could make a really cool old-west game.

    Ever play Wild Arms back in the day? Fantastic JRPG with an old-west setting.

    If you don't feel better soon, maybe you'd feel better on the inside if you did some volunteering as well. There are some voluntary things that can be done from home.

    Haha, well you've met one now! I'm probably rather over-critical of games, though. There isn't a single game that I can't see something wrong with. Then again, maybe that's normal. If only! Review copies of games aren't pretty enough to be sold (at least not the ones I got so far, I think some companies sometimes do send them in the final packaging). Most review copies come in a sleeveless CD case with no disc art, and 'review copy' printed on.

    I think the biggest clunkers so far were probably White Knight Chronicles/Which Knight Chronicles 2, and Ar Tonelico Qoga. I knew White Knight would not sit well with me since I dislike MMORPGs, but I thought I'd at least kinda like Ar Tonelico. Usually I love the odd sex joke, but that game rams them down your throat, and tries way too hard at making them, so you're left with a river of none-funny jokes. At times it goes far too far as well. Jokes about being into poop is where I draw the line....

    Aw..fetch quests. How do they make it into games? Who finds them fun and why? What is so appealing about walking from point A to point B, then back again in a video game? Doesn't it just seem like a waste of time to make the game seem longer? I complain, but some people must enjoy them...xD

    Good question, I have no idea. I'm guessing not since the Move has that helpful globe/ball of light on the end for the camera, but nobody has glowing hands. Maybe E.T. could use the kinect in the dark, who knows. ^^;

    I am a bit of a sucker for trophies. I would try and get everything pre-trophy/achievement consoles on games I loved anyway. Trophies/achievements just encourage me. ^^; Sometimes I'll go for it if the platinum can be quickly obtained as well. I kinda have 17 platinums....yeah.... I like it since it means you get patted on the back by other players if you get one of the hard ones.

    So what makes you platinum a game? Do you just go for whatever you think you'll have time to get? I think the HR one doesn't take much time?

    I want the ICO one becuase I love it, but you have to beat the game in under two hours. How is that possible without the jump glitch (which they removed for the HD collection?)? I could kind of imagine doing it in a little under 3, but under 2? There must be some short-cuts I don't know about.
  6. That would probably kind of annoy me if it was true. Just think: You plugged all that time into a game, and want to see the conclusion, but you have to search it out? Might not be as bad as what I'm thinking though.

    Thanks for the well-wishes. ^^ I hope to feel 100% soon too.

    Oh, nice! I still need to get me a copy of FF Tactics. People that love it, REALLY love it, and I've yet to meet a person who's had a bad thing to say about that game. Tactics Advance on the other hand... But that's probably in comparison to the original game. I'm sure it's fun too. Oh yeah... I forgot about possibility of being sent crap games... Ah well. When you're finished with those, you can trade 'em up for something better at a game shop~! What are some of the clunkers that you had to review before?

    The trailers make the game look super serious (the ones I caught anyway), and in some ways it is, but there are some really funny parts to it. Also, I'm not gonna lie: There are quite a lot fetch quests to accomplish, but only about a handful are necessary to advance the plot. Just so ya know.

    Glad you're enjoying your game. It does seem like it'd be quite an experience. If you had the Kinect, could you play that in the dark? Seems like you'd have to have a decent light source from somewhere so it can read your movements.

    Are you a Trophy/Achievement hunter at all? I will trophy hunt sometimes to get more out of my game, but I'm not a completionist by any means. The only Platinum trophy I have is from Heavy Rain.
  7. I heard the ending is hidden....xD I wonder if that's true? Imagine a game where the ending is hidden.

    That seems so wrong that you don't get paid. Hehe, I just hope you believe it, there's really no reason to e hard on yourself over being unwell. I hope you get better soon, by the way.

    The interview was just about the phone version of Final Fantasy Tactics, but it still feels kinda awesome I can say I got an interview out of them. Oh, yeah. It would be so awesome to have a job you enjoy. And that job is almost like play, even the writing part, becuase I love talking about games.

    Sometimes you get total rubbish games sent up and you have to finish them to review them, that's the only downside.

    Thank you for you good wishes, sis!

    I watched a trailer for Nier, looks like it is actually pretty darned good, will have to read mor eon it. o_o

    No, but I have been told to get it before. ^^; One of these days I'll get all these games I've forgotten about. But not right now...too many games...o_o I have a PS3 and a 360, you definitely made the right pick as a JRPG fan. Hardly touch my 360.

    I kinda want a kinect now...Child of Eden is so amazing! I got a PS Move, and it's great with that, but can imagine not using a controller is great for that game. Finally a game that makes me glad I got a Move. It just feels really nice to play when you get into it, I kept smiling the whole time. Total absorbing fun. Plus it's gorgeous.

    At first I was playing it wrong like a foolie, but it was still enjoyable. The tutorials could have been slightly better written! Or I could just have been acting blonde...^^;

    Found that the PS Move actually works in the dark, making it even better.
  8. Oh I know. That's all it seemed to be to me too, though I heard the end of RDR was quite gut-wrenchingly sad. Still, it didn't seem to be my thing, so I gave it to my older bro.

    Nah, no sick leave. Waitresses don't get those kinds of perks. But it's very nice of you to say not to be hard on myself. It's very relieving to read that. ^^ I have dabble in a bit of art, and it does help quite a deal.

    I'm sorry about the job shortage, but that's awesome that you volunteer your time. That will look really good on a resume, and sweet scores with free games/tickets too! Ooooo~! What was the interview with the guy from SE about? And I hope you'll get the chance to do that as a career too. Seems like it'd be very enjoyable, and if you can say that you enjoy your work, I consider that the very definition of success. ^^ Best of luck to ya!

    OH SHITE! I nearly forgot the other reason I wanted an XBox 360: LOST ODYSSEY! I hear it's a must-have for that platform, especially for fans of FF, since it's from the father of FF himself. You play it, or have it? I hear it's quite the tear-jerker.
  9. Yeah, that is cool. There's not enough good stealth games, so that's good. Oh, I'd say Uncharted is definitely worth a shot, I'd just say it's just not the best thing evah, like so many seem to claim. It's certainly a very handsome game with some decent environments to be explored if nothing else.

    Really? I didn't think it was that popular. Tried it at a friends and it was pretty boring. It looked so great before it came out, but then it seemed like just a bunch of boring quests. Like, let's go pick some flowers? Seriously? I seem to remember it had quests like that, anyway. Its definitely took too long to get from point A to point B.

    Wat? They don't pay you during sick-leave....? That's messed up. It isn't your fault, though. You shouldn't feel bad about it. If you must feel bad about it you should try and do something like work on your art so you feel it's not time wasted. Anything that will make you feel like it's time well spent (assuming that's why it's making you feel bad).

    Pretty bad job shortage here right now, not been able to get myself one, but I do volunteer at a charity book shop, and as a video games journalist. Nets me the odd free game & free tickets to gaming events. I get to talk to some interesting people too, I got to do an interview with a fella from Square Enix a while ago.

    If I'm lucky I'll get to do that for a real job some day. Right now I'd be happy with some crappy shop job, though. Christmas is coming, so maybe I'll get lucky....I'm hoping one of the local game shops will take me on since I probably know way above average about games (I should do anyway ).
  10. I watched the first half of Deus Ex with the Video Games Awesome guys. It did seem really good, and I like that you can take different approaches to the gameplay, like be more stealthy, or go in guns a-blazin'! You're not the first person I've seen say that Uncharted is overrated, so no worries. I'd still like to give it a shot someday.

    Yeah, I kind of have hesitations about L.A. Noire as well. Rockstar games don't really do it for me. I didn't even really get into Red Dead Redemption when I played it, and that was a very high contender for Game of the Year for many people last year. Heh... Yeah, I just never got around to picking up Okamiden...

    I am employed, however, I've been on leave for health-related issues, so I haven't been earning any income. I really need to get back to working though. I feel like such a bum, and it's taking a toll on my self-esteem. But that's my problem, and I'm sure relief will happen for me soon. ^^ What about yourself? Do you have a job or anything?
  11. Oh, yes. That might be part of it. It seems like free advertising. Good thinking there. There's a few games I want that I believe are well spread out, which are coming next year. I might be lucky and not suffer in the summer. Oh, and I guess sales must drop in the summer becuase a lot of people are on holiday.

    Ooh, Deus Ex is supposed to be great! A lotta people will wanna burn me for this, but I think Uncharted is grossly over-rated. It's a good game, but I don't get why people wet their pants over it. It's certainly a very pretty game. The environments are great to explore.

    I wanted L.A. Noire myself, but after watching videos of it since release, not too sure about it anymore. And nobody on my friends list bothered to finish it. ^^; Doh, I never did get around to buying ME2...xD I'm surprised you didn't get Okamiden. Sucks you don't have the dosh for the games you want. :/

    Do you have any work? Is it okay to ask?

    I have heard of it, but never played it. I don't like button mashy things, but I'll have a look at it. thanks.

    Yay! I realized I could have come off pretty strong there. x3 You're definitely awesome!
  12. That's a good reason. Also, all those awards and such take place at the end of the year, so maybe they're released then so the games will still be fresh on people's minds when it comes time to vote? I dunno. That's just a shot in the dark. Take your time and enjoy your games though! There's always the summer "gaming drought" to get caught up if you're behind. ^^

    I wanted: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the Uncharted Collection (both games packaged together, $40. Not bad!), L.A. Noire, Mass Effect 2 (want to get caught up on the story before ME3 comes out, which is another game I want in the future), and Okamiden (I feel so ashamed that I haven't gotten this one yet...). I'm sure I can find a lot of those used, which will save me a considerable amount of cash. :3

    Since you seem to like the more "cult-hit" games, do you know of, or have played, a game called NieR? It's actually quite good. It's an action-adventure title, and fairly button mashy, but the dialogue between the core characters is pretty great. Also, the soundtrack is very nice.

    It's all good. I don't mind. And that's sweet that you think I'm awesome, or at least I remind you of someone who was awesome (which means I'm still awesome by proxy ). Maybe one day you'll see them again.
  13. I hope you won't be disappoint. And I hope that it does drop sharpish.

    I wish I knew the answer to that...maybe they think people will be starting to buy Christmas presents already? I kinda hate it, though. I actually feel over-whelmed. I know what order I'll likely play everything in, but I wanna finish them all. Kinda rushed through SOTC today, not the best way to play.

    What are th other games you kinda wanted?

    You really sound like somebody else I know...I realized I need to be reminded I only knew you for a few days. Sorry if I kinda jumped on you. ^^; I miss the one you remind me of. But that just means you're as awesome?
  14. Oh man... Now you're really making me want to go out and get the collection ASAP. Hopefully the price does drop quickly, but still ~$40 isn't too much to pay... Maybe I'll get it soon. :3 I'm glad you finally got the games though. ^^

    I enjoyed Arkham Asylum very much when I played it, and from what I've seen of City, it looks to be much grander. Plus, Batman keeps all his stuff from the first game, so it'll be nice to have such a wide array of gadgets in the beginning.

    Ah yes. "Broketober" is upon us! I wonder why game publishers don't space out more releases throughout the year instead of waiting at the tail end to do it? :/ I've been looking at a few games, but Batman is probably my only must-buy game atm. One of my TFF buddies is super excited for Skyrim, and he said that I should try out one of those Oblivion games sometime. They seem like quite a time sink though, not that it's a bad thing. It's good that a game has a lot of content. You definitely get your money's worth.

    Rambling is good! You can learn some interesting stuff that way. :3
  15. He is such a cutie. <3 Weird how his acting was so much better then, now he just seems pretty much the same in every film.

    That's pretty bad you could skip PE. :|

    My friggin' gawwwd. The collection is gorgeous....even the menu screen is lovely. A friend said she almost teared up when she lingered at it. I'm not surprised. I literally did shed a tear during the SOTC intro.

    It might sound weird, but 'you were there' starts playing, and there was just something magic about that menu screen! I'm glad I brought some official Sony PS3 component cables last week, they make it look even nicer than my HDMI cable. And WOW do the games look good now. o_o

    I swear, it almost made me feel like I was playing SOTC for the first time again, only better. They should go down in price pretty sharpish, the other HD collections did.

    Only minor complaints, it still pops textures pretty badly/slowly at times, and some things have not been done any favors by the up-scaling, but generally it looks like some yummy chocolaty thing with extra chocolate on top! <3

    Is it gonna be better than the last one do you think? I never got around to picking up Arkham Asylum.

    Too many games coming out just now. Tomorrow Child of Eden is coming, next week is Dark Souls, then I still didn't finish Disgaea, or Totori. In November I'm gonna get Saints Row + Metal Gear HD. Possibly Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (depends on how much new stuff there will be, and time ).

    I'm kinda expecting a review copy of Xenoblade chronicles as well, Nintendo ran out so they didn't send me it back in August. Also hoping it doesn't come until December now. Possibly never. xD

    What are you gonna buy this year? Just Batman?

    Never played Rez either. Looks like it'll be a little trippy as well. Will be nice for my PS Move to finally see some use.

    Sorry to hear that. :/ Interesting story to have behind your username, though.

    Sorry, I think I rambled on a bit there.
