Haha, I remember when I had to do the same exact thing. The timer on my signal blew, so the directional would just stay on. I would have to manually move it up and down, and it got annoying pretty quickly, especially on highways.

I heard a rumor from my friend who told me at the scene where you split the group up in Kuja's hideout. After Zidane's group, if you picked certain members for Zidane's group you could control Amarant. Not sure if it is possible, I've tried it a few times and got nothing.
V is fun. I didn't grab me that much as others did but when you get into the game it gets better.
