That's the risk you take with new games. And if you think you can put a single ideal upon Final Fantasy, you can't. The series was destined, right from the beginning, to change. Was FFII different from FFI? Yes it was, in fact. It actually implemented a storyline, had set characters, and introduced a new growth system. And FFIII? It introduced the job system, but went back to normal leveling. FFIV? Introduced the ATB system, and "set" jobs. The same could be applied for FFV and FFVI. Only FFV worked on the job system, and FFVI worked on storytelling. FFVII, first 3-D game. WOW. It still sucks, but the idea was amazing. FFVIII came up with the incredibly confusin Junction system, but it was different, wasn't it? FFIX was MEANT to be like the rest. And FFX introduced the Sphere Grid, which also happens to be present in FFXIII if you really look at it. The series will keep changing, there's no way to put your thumb on it. Saying FFXIII is drastically different is hardly any different from saying the second game was way different from the first game. And as for "having nothing that other ones had," please take a look at the Chocobos, and the Shiva summon, and some of the weapon names, and the ability names, and even the characters themselves. Lightning sure reminds you of Cloud, huh? (Even though she's done way better than him.) So... yeah. FFs will be different. If you adjust, the changes become much more appealing. Cheese.
Well, I wanted to try it out and see what it is like but I don't get the appeal. It has nothing that other Final Fantasy games have. I'll even go as far as saying that Final Fantasy VII is better. I know you are, you said you are, but what am I? >=(
