Yeah that's what he was telling me about he said the only thing he didn't like about SO4 was the fact that the futuristic stuff seemed like Enix tried to hard and its more advanced than SO1, and if its suppose to be a PRE SO1 than why would it be more advanced? that was his only complaint so far he said

Think Enix meant for it to be like that, or was an accident and never changed formula with higher level monsters? OHH and my friend got SO4 He said it was like a pre SO1, story before Star Ocean 1
