The monsters are a separate existence that jump from soul to soul and their affect on the individuals mental state is different: the dragon guides the person with its great wisdom, the kitsune plays tricks and mind games, the pheonix clouds your thoughts with intense emotions, and fenrir attempts to consume your mind.
