How can something be beautiful because it is a commercial? O_o
But what if it looks nice? "Art is that which is, for whatever reason, beautiful." So what if the reason is commercial?
No they are not artists. They don't make art. They make advertisements, which makes them advertisers. Not ARTists.
"There has to be some passion in it. Some pride about one's work." So graffiti is art, as long as someone has thought it about it? People who advertise also do this, so thus they are artists?
Not initially. You don't become a painter because you'll earn money with it. You might as well get another job... And not nearly everything that is sold as art IS considered art by people who know something about it. Real art is meant to be art. There has to be some passion in it. Some pride about one's work.
People sell art to make a living. That purpose is economic.
Scribbling their name is not art. But it really depends on a lot of factors. Basically, people will look at anything twice and start thinking of something as art if it's put in a museum. People are funny that way. And advertising is not art at all. Its purpose is purely economic.
What about just someone scribbling their name? Is that art? Well people construct advertising to be appealing, and to motivate. It can't be ugly, unless that's the point of the advertising. So is advertising art?
What do you mean with advertising being art? And graffiti... I guess it depends. If the person painting it was serious about making something beautiful. Or making a statement, thus making it beautiful in a social/political way.
I like to think that graffiti is art, but no one really thinks it is beautiful.
Does music have to be pleasant? Does art have to be beautiful? Is advertising art?
Art is man's endless effort to try and copy mother nature's beauty. Or more in general: Art is that which is, for whatever reason, beautiful. Literature is that which is written. Music is that which is pleasant to hear.
Koo-koo a-choo
Ugh. These kinds of questions? I thought better of you Art is paintings. Literature is books. Not good enough? Art is a manner of arranging, performing, and expressing something of beauty, of significance, or just for the sake of doing it. While art generally has a motive, it does not require one. It ranges from paintings to performances to use objects in a space. Literature is the collective creative (or factual) writing of particular groups, for example national, religious, or pertaining to a particular science. Phew. That's about as concise as it can get. How would you define them? And what is music?
Haha. And some new fellow (TenseikenSlash, looks like a really decent guy) asked me, out of the blue, if I could explain to him what a parallel universe is. I feel so great. I am the fucking walrus!
